How ‘The Expanse’ Gets General Relativity Right

There’s a scene in the middle of the second episode of SyFy’s new series The Expanse where two characters are on the outside of a spaceship making repairs, and one loses his grip on a wrench. Which goes pinwheeling off into the blackness of space, at which point I very nearly turned the show off. I’m glad I stuck with it, though, because it was redeemed a few minutes later, and the show remains one of the few science-fiction shows I’ve seen to get gravity right.

Demystifying Cisco’s Five Pillar Innovation Strategy

Companies that are the leaders in their industry generally have a hard time maintaining the entrepreneurial spirit that got them to their leading position in that industry. On one hand you have relatively “new” companies like Facebook and on the other, you have companies like Yahoo who are struggling in the new age of mobility, social and the emerging IoT wave. For a company with a market cap of over $130 billion, it is hard for a company like Cisco Systems and its peers to continue to innovate. While innovation isn’t necessarily about structure, when it comes to large companies, you have to have some order around it or it just looks like executives and employees wasting time and having fun. Bean bag chairs, open offices, Starbucks and fine dining at work has to be balanced out with clear goals and accountability. That is why Cisco has developed a multi-faceted and structured innovation strategy to ensure that the innovative spirit is kept alive while having accountability.

Street Fighter V: podría estar en Linux con ayuda de Valve

Capcom ha anunciado que el próximo lanzamiento del mítico videojuego Street Fighter, el Street Fighter V, podría estar disponible también en SteamOS y soportará el Steam Controller gracias a la colaboración de Valve. Con ello, Valve se apunta otro tanto en su lucha por llevar el entretenimiento digital al mundo Linux y sigue generando noticias como estas que tanto agradan a los linuxeros adictos a los juegos.

Street Fighter es uno de los grandes títulos y míticos que entra a formar parte de ese club selecto de esta industria. Street Fighter V será uno de los juegos más esperados de 2016 y Valve junto con Capcom lo quieren traer para disfrutarlo desde cualquier distribución Linux, no solo SteamOS. Y la noticia es toda una sorpresa, ya que Capcom nunca ha mostrado el más mínimo interés por el mundo Linux.

Ningún juego del catálogo de la compañía Capcom cuenta con soporte para Linux, es por eso que la noticia es doblemente positiva. La mayoría de los desarrolladores, como sabemos, crean sus títulos para la plataforma Windows de Microsoft y otros cuantos también para Mac OS X, y por supuesto para las videoconsolas, aunque eso en los últimos tiempos está cambiando mucho y la balanza comienza a volcarse a favor de Linux, como hemos venido anunciado en este blog.

El anuncio del Street Fighter V para Linux se ha realizado en el blog oficial donde los desarrolladores comentan todo tipo de información, como la de la actual Beta de este título. Por el momento se encuentra en una fase muy temprana de desarrollo, pero no habrá que esperar mucho para poder disfrutar de la versión final. La nota decía: “Hola a todos. Estoy emocionado de anunciar que Street Fighter V será soportado oficialmente por el OS de Valve.Estamos trabajando muy de cerca con Valve en este esfuerzo, y tendremos más detalles que anunciar en breve, así que estad atentos a las actualizaciones.”.
