Advisory Committee’s Violations Of Federal Law Threaten Credibility Of 2015 Dietary Guidelines

In introducing an October 7, 2015 oversight hearing on the forthcoming 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway stated, “It is essential that the guidance that comes out of this process can be trusted by the American people.” Chairman Conaway framed that remark in the context of the scientific evidence the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) relied upon in its Scientific Report. Lawmakers should question the quality of the report’s science, but their probe of the DGAC and its work shouldn’t stop there. Another, perhaps greater, threat to the Dietary Guidelines’ credibility is the significant breaches of federal law that occurred in the creation of the DGAC. Violations of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) infect the entire Scientific Report and call into question its recommendations and any federal regulatory proposals that rely on the report or the resulting DGA.

Swift de Apple ya es de Código Abierto

Logo SwiftHace tiempo que conocemos la herramienta Swift, un lenguaje de programación que se presentaba como nuevo y cuyas aplicaciones podían funcionar tanto en iOS como en OS X. Este curioso lenguaje se etiquetó como de Código Abierto cuando Apple lo decidiese. Pues bien, Apple ya ha decidido. A partir de ahora Swift es de Código Abierto, con su GitHub, sus guías y como no, con la posibilidad de usarse en Gnu/Linux para crear aplicaciones y apps para los productos de Apple.

La noticia ha sorprendido a muchos, a tanto que la web y el repositorio de GitHub ha estado caídas durante unas cuantas horas. Aunque actualmente ya está habilitado y funcionando. Apple ha dicho que ha liberado el código con lo que ello conlleva aunque ha dicho que las mejoras que se hagan al lenguaje Swift no significa que se incorporen a los sistemas operativos de Apple. En este caso ha dicho que si bien las mejoras serán bienvenidas, no serán adoptadas cuando quiera la Comunidad sino cuando diga Apple. Es algo que realmente fastidia, pero al menos la Comunidad es escuchada.

Ni que decir tiene que al liberar Swift, muchos desarrolladores incorporarán API’s de Apple a sus programas, se podrán crear programas y apps desde otras plataformas y se podrá trabajar con herramientas más especializadas o completas que las ofrecidas por Apple, vamos en una sola palabra: Libertad.

En cualquier caso, todo lo necesario lo tenemos a disposición de quien quiera, bien en su web oficial, bien en su repositorio GitHub, aunque desde aquí recomendamos que se utilice la web oficial ya que en ella no sólo se consigue el software sino que se encuentra guías de cómo empezar, en que orden instalar los programas y las herramientas y la documentación de cada parte del lenguaje.

Queramos o no, esto será un gran impulso para Swift, algo positivo para el lenguaje si Apple lo sabe gestionar bien, pero ya me imagino que no tardaremos en oír noticias sobre los rechazados de Apple a ciertas peticiones ¿vosotros qué creéis?

Descubre los nuevos emoticonos para Android y cómo conseguirlos

Nuevos Emojis Unicode Portada

Sin duda los emoticonos o “emojis” han causado un giro de 360 en la forma de comunicarse por internet. Impulsados en gran medida por las redes sociales, los emoticonos han ido evolucionando poco a poco y ahora los encontramos hasta en la sopa. Hasta los servicios de correo electrónico, que hoy por hoy serían los equivalentes a las cartas, también han incorporado los emojis dentro de su editor de texto de correo electrónico.

Los emoticonos más famosos en España sin lugar a dudas son los de WhatsApp. Estos iconos de WhatsApp no forman parte de Unicode (el sistema de codificación de caracteres más usado) ni son propios de WhatsApp. Los emojis de los que os venimos a hablar hoy pertenecen a Unicode, los cuales también puedes encontrar en tu dispositivo Android, y todos tienen un equivalente con los de WhatsApp.

Unicornios, leones y cangrejos son los nuevos emojis

El director de Android, Hiroshi Lockheimer, ha anunciado hoy a través de su Twitter que los nuevos emoticonos de Unicode estarán disponibles la semana que viene para todos los dispositivos Nexus. Aunque no especifica cuantas novedades hay, se sabe seguro que el icono del león, el cangrejo y hasta un unicornio estarán incluidos en esta actualización.

Ahora mismo la versión de Unicode que incorporan los dispositivos Android es la 6.0, en la cual se cargaron el icono de “victoria” (índice y dedo medio levantados). Hiroshi pero no ha anunciado que estos nuevos iconos no vendrán mediante una actualización de Google Keyboard, sino que será mediante una nueva versión de Android.

De ahí deducimos que si queremos disfrutar de estos iconos muy probablemente tendremos que instalar Android 6.0 Marshmallow o esperar a una futura posible actualización de Google Keyboard.

Emojis nuevos Android Unicode

Aún así, grandes firmas como HTC o Samsung a menudo personalizan ellos mismos estos emoticonos de Unicode, así que si eres uno de los afortunados con un dispositivo de estas compañías, posiblemente podrás disfrutar de dichos emojis en sus teclados.

Para el resto de terminales, Hiroshi no ha hablado de ningún tipo de fecha. Esperemos pues que llegue esta actualización correctamente en los dispositivos Nexus y que arreglen el emoticono de la mano con el dedo índice y medio levantados.

Nuevos Emojis Android

También cabe esperar que no tarden demasiado a llegar estos nuevos emojis para el resto de terminales Android, y a poder ser que no estén disponibles únicamente para Android 6.0 Marshmallow. En iOS, ya disponen de la versión 8.0, dos por delante de la Android, así que no pueden tardar demasiado.
