Volvo’s latest concept isn’t a car, but a revolutionary new cabin interior designed specifically for autonomous vehicles. This new front row takes advantage of the 26 minutes that Volvo estimates a driver will recapture during their commutes when vehicles drive themselves. The Swedish car makes says that this amount of time is a significant enough amount of time to watch media, read, or do a little work, and its new driver’s cockpit will enable them to focus on these other tasks.

According to a new report coming out of its home country of South Korea, Samsung is planning to bring a few new features to its more affordable smartphones in the future.
We’re talking about fingerprint sensors as well as support for Samsung Pay (and NFC with it). An unnamed source allegedly said that “Samsung is planning to deploy fingerprint sensors in budget smartphone models”, although it’s unclear what the company’s exact definition of “budget” could be.
This shows that Samsung is feeling the heat from Chinese smartphone makers, who have started including fingerprint scanners in even lower-midrange offerings recently. In fact, for the same price, the Chinese makers always offer more features than Samsung, so the Korean company probably feels like it has to act in this regard. It is currently the top dog in 14 out of 15 emerging smartphone markets, and we assume these moves are meant to ensure that won’t change in the future.
Unfortunately no time frame was mentioned for Samsung launching fingerprint sensors in cheaper devices. Yet Samsung Pay is reportedly going to show up in new mid-range and low-end phones as early as the first half of next year. This will happen for the company’s Android handsets. Analysts are still divided in their opinions of whether Samsung will bring its payment system to Tizen smartphones too. We should see some high-end Tizen offerings next year, though.

Hace unos días se nos presentó la última versión del Proyecto Puppy Linux con Ubuntu como base, pues hoy hemos conocido la versión de Puppy que se basa en Slackware, Puppy 6.3 Slacko. Esta versión sigue siendo igual de ligera que las anteriores versiones y sabores de Puppy Linux pero a diferencia del resto, Puppy Slacko se basa en Slackware 14.1.
La nueva versión Slacko tiene como base el kernel 4.1. de Linux, pero a diferencia de otras versiones, Slacko tiene un script que nos permitirá cambiar el kernel del sistema operativo de una manera fácil y sencilla.
Puppy 6.3 Slacko se ofrecerá en dos versiones, una versión de 32 bits y otra versión de 64 bits. Es interesante esto porque Puppy Linux 7.3 Quirky Werewolf sólo tiene una versión en 64 bits y si queremos Puppy pero tenemos una plataforma de 32 bits, lo mejor será decantarnos por la versión Slacko.
El gestor de ventanas en esta distribución será el mismo que en Quirky, JWM, el gestor de ventanas basado en el antiguo IceWm. Esto nos permitirá entre otras cosas que el sistema funcione no sólo en modo live sino también en equipos con pocos recursos.
Puppy Slacko vendrá equipado con Evince, Mozilla Firefox, Abiword y MPlayer entre otros. En el aspecto multimedia, a pesar de tener MPlayer o PMusic, Slacko tendrá FFmpeg para hacer funcionar los archivos multimedia.
Slacko está disponible en esta página, una descarga gratuita y ligera que podremos grabar en un disco o en USB. En todo caso hemos de mirar primero en que plataforma queremos hacer que funcione, sobre todo si tenemos nos bajamos una versión de 64 bits y tenemos un sistema de 32 bits.
Personalmente Puppy me parece una gran distribución no sólo la versión Quirky sino también la versión Slacko, son dos versiones ideales para sistemas con pocos recursos, equipos que aún tienen mucho que decir ¿no creéis?
