Google will reward people for posting local reviews

Google Maps should be your go-to app for finding places and reviews. This is why Google is competing with other user-contributed review sites like Zagat and Yelp to create a more wholesome experience using Google Maps.

Google wants to encourage more people to contribute reviews to Google Maps by rewarding them. Users can sign up to be a “Local Guide” to start earning points today.

Each of the following actions can earn you 1 point:

uploading photos

posting a review

adding a new place (which isn’t on Google Maps)

fixing information (wrong phone number, misspelled name)

answering questions (“Is this a family restaurant?”)

Google also lets Local Guides lead local communities and have discussions with other communities to share the things they love. There is even a calendar that lists Hangout sessions for training and meetups.

There are 5 point levels for a Local Guide:

0 to 4 points gets your entries into device giveaways in select countries

5 to 49 points gets you early access to new Google products and features

50 to 199 points gets you a badge that recognizes you on Google Maps as an official Local Guide

200-499 points gets you a free 1TB upgrade of Google Drive storage

500+ points makes you eligible to attend Google sponsored Local Guide events and visits to the Google Campus

Google even gives Local Guides the resources and tips for hosting a local event for just about anything. The company really wants to give back to the communities everywhere while helping small businesses gain reviews from more customers.

  • Trivial Pursuit & Friends – Sí, es el Trivial de toda la vida, con las cartitas y esas preguntas extrañas que no adivinaría ni Einstein, pero ahora mucho más social.   • Fast like a Fox – A un pobre lobo tendremos que guiarle en su huída ante el mal, y para ello le llevaremos por parajes preciosistas que ponen en liza mucha vistosidad. Pero Fast like a Fox también ofrece velocidad y mucha acción en un título de carrera infinita donde se requieren amplias dosis de reflejos.

  • Hopeless 2: Cave Escape – Nos hemos quedado atrapados en una mina, está todo oscuro y nos salen mostruos a escasos metros. Esa es la filosofía de Hopeless 2: Cave Escape, con bastante de susto y otro tanto de agilidad y reflejos si no nos queremos tragar a los enemigos que siempre aparecen con mucha mala leche.

  • Slashy Hero – El juego del mes es, sin duda, Slashy Hero. Una aventura donde se combina exploración, acción y puzles, y que encima viene aderezado con una jugabilidad innovadora y muy completa con un apartado visual animado y ciertamente conseguido. Hay que bajárselo sí o sí.

6 consejos para prevenir el espionaje by Edward Snowden

El ex de la CIA y la NSA, Edward Snowden, ha hablado mucho sobre las prácticas de espionaje de los gobiernos y sobre algunos secretos bien guardados por este tipo de agencias. Por ese motivo, Snowden se ha refugiado de por vida por hablar de estas vigilancias masivas. Pues bien, Snowden ha citado 6 consejos para prevenir el espionaje ante el medio The Register y nosotros lo hemos adaptado al mundo Linux.

El sentido común es la mejor arma por supuesto. Ya hemos comentado que no existen ningún sistema 100% seguro, pero sí que podemos hacer que nuestros sistemas sean más seguros. Ya sea porque guardamos información relevante que no queramos que caiga en manos de terceros o porque necesitemos preservar nuestra privacidad y anonimato cuando navegamos. Eso sí, no te obsesiones demasiado.

Pero Snowden ha querido poner su granito de arena aconsejando que:

  1. Usar la red Tor para navegar de manera más anónima.
  2. Bloquear el rastreo con bloqueadores como Disconnect, una extensión para el navegador. Disconnect permite ser instalado en Firefox y Chrome, permitiendo bloquear el acceso de rastreadores de terceros presentes en Facebook, Google, Twitter, Digg y Yahoo.
  3. Emplear un gestor de contraseñas. Esto puede ser un aliado como bien dice Snowden, pero a mí también me parece un potente enemigo.
  4. Asegurar de que las páginas sensibles que te piden datos sean HTTPS y no HTTP. Así usan un protocolo cifrado más seguro.
  5. Encriptar tu disco duro para tener los datos a salvo. Esto protege incluso a nivel físico si te roban o acceden alguien a tu equpo de forma presencial.
  6. Usar autentificación de doble factor, para usar un sistema auxiliar que complemente a la contraseña del login y ponérselo más difícil a terceros.

Ubuntu 15.10: todos los sabores en una sola imagen ISO

Canonical tiene diferentes sabores o ediciones de su distribución Linux. Ahora con la llegada de Ubuntu 15.10, parece que también se nos ofrece la posibilidad de tener todos estos sabores en una sola imagen ISO. Algo así como NOOBS para Raspberry Pi, pero en este caso con Ubuntu 15.10 MATE, Ubuntu 15.10 (Unity), Kubuntu 15.10, Lubuntu 15.10, Xubuntu 15.10 y Ubuntu 15.10 GNOME.

Hasta ahora, para tener estos sistemas operativos había que descargarlos uno a uno con su respectiva imagen ISO para poderlos quemar en un dico o pasarlos a un USB, para poderlos probar o instalar. Gracias al equipo Linux AIO y su proyecto Linux AIO Ubuntu project se podrá tener todo en uno, un All In One para nuestra distro favorita en su versión Wily Werewolf.

Linux AIO Ubuntu es un Live ISO desde la que se podrá probar todas estas versiones de Ubuntu 15.10 con los entornos de escritorio de una manera más centralizada y fácil. Podemos descargar esta única imagen ISO booteable para grabarla en un DVD o un pendrive USB y seleccionar la que queremos iniciar o instalar en cada momento.

Linux AIO Ubuntu se distribuirá en dos versiones, una para equipos de 64-bit (x86-64) y otra para equipos de 32-bit (x86). Así Linux AIO se asegura de que la compatibilidad sea elevada en el escritorio. Si estás interesado, puedes descargarlo desde diferentes fuentes, como Sourceforge o desde Softpedia.

18.4-inch Samsung Galaxy View lands at AT&T on November 20

The Samsung Galaxy View tablet has been available in the US for a short while already, but not with 4G LTE support and not from a carrier.

That all changes on November 20, which is this Friday. That’s when AT&T will start selling the huge 18.4-inch device. For a limited time, you’ll be able to buy one for just $99.99 with a new two-year contract, but there’s a big catch – to get that price you need to sign up for new DIRECTV service (with another two-year contract). If you already have DIRECTV, the only way to buy the Galaxy View for $99.99 is if you also add a new smartphone line on AT&T Next.

If you don’t want to have anything to do with DIRECTV, then the Galaxy View can be yours for $499.99 with a two-year contract, or $30 per month for 20 months if you qualify for the AT&T tablet installment plan. So it looks like the full retail price is $600.

The Samsung Galaxy View comes with an 18.4-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 2.1 MP front-facing camera, Samsung’s Exynos 7580 chipset at the helm with 1.6 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU, 64GB of expandable storage, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE, and a 5,700 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1…
