Samsung is said to be intensively testing the Snapdragon 820

A couple of weeks ago we first heard that Samsung might use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset for next year’s Galaxy S7, and now a new report pretty much confirms this possibility.

According to a Korean publication, Samsung is currently busy putting the Snapdragon 820 through some very intensive testing. The results of all those tests will have a bearing in whether Samsung decides to use the Snapdragon 820 in the Galaxy S7 or not.

At the moment things seem to be going well, which means we may once again see a Samsung flagship with two SoC choices, each offered in certain markets only. This was the case for a few years, until this year when the Galaxy S6 only went with Samsung’s own Exynos chipset. The reason for that probably has something to do both with the performance of the Exynos 7420, but also with the much-publicized overheating problems that the Snapdragon 810 encounters.

Its successor, the Snapdragon 820, is set to be quite different in that regard, though, so it may once again be seen in a high-end Samsung device.

Apple Is Offering Free Replacements For iPhone 6 Plus Cameras That Take Blurry Photos

Do you have an iPhone 6 Plus that takes blurry photos? You might be eligible for a free repair. Apple said it would be replacing iPhone 6 Plus cameras that take blurry photos due to faulty hardware. 
“Apple has determined that, in a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus devices, the iSight camera has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry. The affected units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold primarily between September 2014 and January 2015,” said Apple on the iSight Camera Replacement Program website. “If your iPhone 6 Plus is producing blurry photos and falls into the eligible serial number range, Apple will replace your device’s iSight camera, free of charge.” You can find out if you are eligible for the iPhone 6 Plus replacement by entering your serial number on the iSight Camera Replacement Program website.
Apple will examine the iPhone 6 Plus to verify that it is eligible for the program. The iPhone 6 Plus has to be examined at an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Before you turn in your iPhone 6 Plus for the camera replacement, Apple recommended that you back up your data to iTunes or iCloud. Apple also pointed out that if your iPhone 6 Plus has damage like a cracked screen that impairs the camera replacement, then you will need to resolve that issue beforehand.

Noticias Android: Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, Blackberry Venice

Es lunes, y como cada lunes, toca una ración de noticias Android, para ponernos al día de toda la actualidad que rodea a nuestro sistema operativo favorito en tan solo unos pocos minutos. Para no perder la costumbre, estos últimos siete días han sido un no parar en materia de novedades, rumores, y filtraciones, una combinación que es la salsa picante del mundo tecnológico.

Así, hoy toca hablar de Android 6.0 Marshmallow, la nueva versión del sistema que por fin tiene nombre, y por supuesto, de posibles terminales que casi con toda probabilidad llegarán al mercado, ya sea tarde o temprano. Ejemplo de ello es el Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, que se ha dejado ver en una supuesta imagen, o la BlackBerry Venice, de la que casi cada día conocemos más información.

HTC is giving you $100 in Google Play credit if you buy the One M9

HTC is now running a new promotion hoping to convince as many people as possible to buy its One M9 smartphone. This time around we’re not talking about a price reduction per se, though the Taiwanese company is basically giving away $100 for every purchase of its flagship product.

Here’s how it works. If you buy a One M9 in the US, and you get it directly from HTC, then you’ll receive $100 in Google Play credit for free. You can spend that on anything you want in Google’s store.

The offer is valid for devices purchased before the end of November, and you’ll have to redeem your credit by the end of the year. Oh, and you need to spend the $100 you get before December 31, 2016. That’s it, there are no other caveats. If you’re a big spender in the Play Store, then this could turn out to be quite useful.

Further clouding the issue is the fact that leading economists have long questioned how accurate China’s GDP data is. Cinnamon 2.8 reconocerá los fabricantes de las baterías

Uno de los escritorios más famosos y también más usados, Cinnamon, sigue su desarrollo adelante y el equipo de desarrollo liderado por Clem ya nos ha mostrado alguna novedad del próximo Cinnamon 2.8. Al parecer la nueva versión contará con la facultad de reconocer los fabricantes de las baterías algo que hará que el gestor de batería sea más completo que en versiones anteriores. Además Cinnamon 2.8 reconocerá aquellos periféricos que necesiten baterías auxiliares como los ratones y los teclados y también lo indicará en el applet.

Esta característica no es nada nueva en el mundo de los escritorios. Estos ya lo hacen incluso escritorios menos trabajados como Xfce 4.12, ahora bien es un gran paso para los usuarios novatos que podrán conocer la información de las baterías así como saber si el sistema reconoce bien los dispositivos y sus baterías.

No hay que olvidar que Cinnamon es un escritorio enfocado a los usuarios que vienen de Windows o que aterrizan por primera vez en el mundo del PC. Esto hace que la prioridad máxima del  escritorio sea el usuario novato.

Cinnamon 2.8 seguirá mejorando detalles estéticos

Además hemos podido ver novedades estéticas en la nueva versión del escritorio, en este caso se sigue con el alisado de fuentes y gráficos, algo que no sólo agrada a nuestro gusto sino también a nuestra vista que trabajará día a día con este escritorio.

Por el momento no conocemos ninguna novedad más, aunque ya hace tiempo Clem advirtió que acelerar el escritorio así como hacer que consuma menos recursos es algo posible y era algo en lo que trabajarían durante los próximos meses. Por lo que es posible que las grandes novedades de Cinnamon 2.8 se centren en acelerar y optimizar el escritorio, algo que si bien es poco de cantidad, es mucho de calidad.

Personalmente creo que este escritorio se está centrando mucho en usuarios novatos y esto está haciendo que los usuarios expertos o de nivel intermedio se declinen por otros escritorios como Gnome, Kde o Xfce. Espero que no lleguen a puntos máximos y si se centren en la optimización de recursos. Pero para saberlo habrá que esperar un poco más.
