Vivo V1 and V1 Max get announced for the Indian market

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has announced a couple of brand new devices for the Indian market today. They are the Vivo V1 and the V1 Max.

As you can see, the looks are shared, but the V1 Max is obviously bigger than the V1. With these handsets, Vivo aims to have decent mid-range offerings on sale in India, both in the 'normal' size class as well as in the phablet space.

The Vivo V1 comes with a 5-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5 MP wide-angle front snapper with f/2.0 aperture, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, and a 2,300 mAh battery.

The SoC used is Qualcomm's 64-bit Snapdragon 410, boasting a 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and an Adreno 306 GPU. The V1 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, with Vivo's FunTouch OS on top. It has dual-SIM functionality, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Oddly enough, Vivo decided not to unveil any specs for the V1 Max at this time. Though if we go by the almost identical looks, we assume the innards will be shared with its smaller sibling as well – for those that make sense. As the screen is bigger, it may be higher-res too, and we should hopefully see a bigger battery inside.

Both the V1 and the V1 Max are going to be in the INR 15,000 to 20,000 price range ($236-314), and they will be out in India before the end of July. It's unclear if Vivo plans to launch them in other markets after…

Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 actualiza los escritorios Cinnamon, MATE y KDE

Manjaro es un proyecto muy interesante del cual hemos hablado en algunas ocasiones aquí en Linux Adictos; se trata de una distro basada en Arch Linux pero que no sigue el esquema rolling release sino que se basa en snapshots estables y actualizaciones no tan frecuentes (y de menor tamaño) sino más espaciadas. En las últimas horas se produjo la llegada de Manjaro 0.8.13, con actualizaciones a los escritorios Cinnamon, KDE Plasma y MATE.

En esta versión, Manjaro trae herramientas actualizadas como manjaro-tools 0.9.10 -la cual trae una característica de automontado de entornos chroot- o KDE-Apps 15.04.3, LibreOffice 4.4.4 y drivers Nvidia con mejoras para la versión (legacy) linux318. Pero quizá lo más importante para el usuario final, por las mejoras que estos escritorios ofrecen, es la llegada de Cinnamon 2.6.12, KDE Plasma 5.3.2 y MATE 1.10.0.

Junto con lo anteriormente mencionado llegan Mea 10.6.1 y gcc5 5.10, pero otro aspecto interesante de esta distro es el soporte para varias versiones del kernel de Linux en forma simultánea, y así es como tenemos la posibilidad de utilizar Linux 3.10.83, Linux 3.12.44, Linux 3.13.11, Linux 3.14.47, Linux 3.16.7, Linux 3.18.18, Linux 3.19.8, Linux 4.0.7 y Linux 4.1. Y por si todo esto no fuera suficiente, llegan actualizaciones en Python y varias herramientas internas, además del cliente Steam-manjaro.

Los usuarios de versiones anteriores de Manjaro pueden actualizar directamente desde el sistema, y para quienes utilicen otra distro pueden descargar el Live CD y probar (e instalar luego desde allí).

Samsung Galaxy A8 stars in more live images

Reviews of not yet announced smartphones usually come from Russia, but this time around we've got just such an occurrence from China. The upcoming, much-rumored, oft-leaked Samsung Galaxy A8 has apparently been reviewed by one Chinese website today.

As you can imagine, this means a lot of live, hands-on pictures have been made public. You can see some of them below (click the thumbnails for the full-size files).

The Samsung Galaxy A8 has been rumored to launch as the Korean company's thinnest handset to date. These aren't the first live images of it we've seen so far. In fact, there was also a hands-on video recently. And the phone also starred in a promotional brochure in South Korea just a few days ago.

Today's Chinese review also brings us a neat recap of the A8's specs, along with a confirmation that it does indeed feature a fingerprint sensor in its Home button.

The phone has a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED touchscreen, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 chipset is on board, paired with a 1.5 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU. The A8 has 2GB of RAM, support for microSD cards, a 16 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5 MP selfie snapper, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 3,050 non-removable battery.

It's got a full metal build, and it runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top. The dimensions are 157.7 x 76.7 x 5.94 mm. So incredibly slim indeed.

As you can see, compared to the A7, the A8 has a much more rounded design and smaller bezels. Now that the cat's fully out of the bag, perhaps Samsung will make the Galaxy A8 official soon.

El Xiaomi Mi5 costará menos de 350 euros

Cómo actualizar el Xiaomi Mi4 a Android 5.1 Lollipop

Aunque las ventas de Xiaomi se han estancado, el fabricante asiático sigue siendo un referente en el sector. El Xiaomi Mi4, su última gran perla, nos enamoró con su combinación de curvas, calidad y precio. Y ahora el fabricante asiático tiene cada día más a punto el Xiaomi Mi5, un terminal que volverá a encandilarnos con su calidad.

Y es que una iamgen filtrada habla de las características técnicas del Mi5, además de su precio: el próximo buque insignia de Xiaomi no sobrepasará los 400 dólares, unos 350 euros al cambio.

Por lo que hemos podido saber, se espera que el Xiaomi Mi5 cuente con una pantalla de 5.2 pulgadas con una resolución que alcanzaría los 2560 x 1440 píxeles (Quad HD). Su procesador estaría formado por un Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, eso sí la versión v2 mejorada por Xiaomi y que no tiene problemas de sobrecalentamiento.

Si a esto le sumamos los 3 GB de memoria RAM que integrará el Xiaomi Mi5, nos encontramos con un teléfono que tiene unas prestaciones calcadas al HTC One M9 o el Xperia Z3 plus. Vamos, un buque insignia en toda regla.

Uno de los puntos fuertes llegarán con las cámaras del Mi5. Y es que el nuevo flagship killer asiático contará con una cámara trasera de 16 megapíxeles con estabilización óptica de imagen, posiblemente un sensor Sony. ¿Y su cámara frontal? Pues un regalo para los amantes de las selfies, más si tenemos en cuenta que contará con 13 megapíxeles de resolución.

Xiaomi Mi

Por lo demás se espera una batería de 3.000 mAh, más que suficiente para soportar todo el peso del hardware de este potente teléfono móvil que funcionará con Android 5.1 L, aunque bajo la interfaz de Xiaomi MIUI 7.

¿Y su precio? Pues según indica en la hoja filtrada, costará 2.399 yuanes, lo que viene siendo unos 350 euros al cambio.  Un chollo si tenemos en cuenta las características técnicas del Xiaomi Mi5. Eso sí, como viene siendo habitual, este terminal no llegará a Europa de manera oficial  por lo que si quieres hacerte con una unidad deberás comprarlo a través de un distribuidor y entonces el precio ya no será el mismo. Aunque seguirá saliendo a cuenta.
