AT&T Lumia 950 now available for $0 down

If you’re planning to purchase the AT&T variant of the Microsoft Lumia 950 flagship smartphone, you’ll be glad to know that Amazon is now offering the device for zero down “with device financing.” Of course, you’ll have to sign a regular, two-year contract with the carrier.

A quick look at AT&T’s website reveals that the carrier usually sells the Windows 10 smartphone on-contract for $150. For those who are interested in the deal, it’s worth knowing that the device on offer is the black colored 32GB Lumia 950 variant.

If you aren’t already aware, Microsoft is currently selling the AT&T Lumia 950 (no contract) at discounted rates – the device is listed on the Microsoft Store website for $549.00, which is $49.99 less than its regular price of $598.99.

Online payments support coming to Samsung Pay in US next year

If you’re a Samsung Pay user in the US, here is some good news: you’ll soon be able to use the mobile payments service to make online payments. This was announced by Samsung Pay global co-general manager Thomas Ko.

There was, however, no word on whether or not the functionality – which Ko said will be enabled sometime in 2016 – will only be limited to in-app shopping. It’s worth mentioning that rival services including Android Pay and Apple Pay already support in-app purchases.

In addition, he revealed that the payments service will also be expanded to lower-priced Samsung phones sometime next year – currently, only select Galaxy phones are supported, including the S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note5.

“Wider handset availability of Samsung Pay as well as online payment support is coming soon,” he was quoted as…

Less than a couple of weeks after the LG G4 on Sprint started receiving the Android 6.0 update, the carrier has started rolling out Marshmallow to LG G Stylo devices on its network. The update bumps the software version to LS770ZV7.

Needless to say, the update will bring all the usual Marshmallow goodies, including Doze, a feature which promises improved battery life with lower standby power use; Google Now on Tap, that lets you get more info on whatever is on your screen; and redesigned app permissions.

Keep in mind that it can take “several days” before the update hits your device, so you need to be patient. Meanwhile, you can also manually check for it by heading to your device’s…

FCC documents reveal a new Google Glass Enterprise Edition

We haven’t really seen more from Google regarding the Glass since the first Explorer Edition back in 2013. This is no longer the case thanks to some new photos and FCC documents that outed the new Google Glass Enterprise edition.

These images and docs have surfaced before any official Google announcement has been made. If you thought the Google Glass project was generally dead, you can now rest easy knowing that it’s still alive and well.

The Wall Street Journal has previously reported the alleged features for the new Enterprise Glass:

Intel Atom Processor
Improved battery performance
Improved wireless connectivity with 5 GHz Wi-Fi
Better heat management and performance

Glass Enterprise also features some new hardware designs with the power button placement moved to the rear of the device and the Glass is now foldable for stowing away.

The Enterprise Edition will only be available for Glass for Work startups and is not slated to be available to the public. Sources say that these ‘Glasses’ will be loaded with proprietary software before shipping to the users.

Android 6.0.1 promises a major usability update for Samsung’s edge devices

A leaked video showcases a new versatile app model for advanced edge functionality on the S6 edge.

Marshmallow is definitely the new buzz-word in the Android realm and even though a lucky few are already enjoying dozing, the new runtime permission model and many other goodies, most users are still eagerly awaiting their OTA. As a leading authority in the realm, a lot of pressure is on Samsung to deliver a new and improved experience to millions of users and by the looks of things, the Korean giant intends to do things right and be on its best game.

A newly unearthed video of what appears to be a genuine Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, running Android 6.0.1 gives us a hint of the lengths Samsung has gone to, striving for the best possible Marshmallow experience. From the looks of things, the OEM’s edged devices are in for a major functionality overhaul in relation to their curved panels. The clip showcases a new app model to take advantage of said form factor.

The apps are divided into two categories – Edge feeds for receiving information at a glance and Edge panels for added functionality. During the quick overview we spot quite a few new apps, working on the curve, presumably part of the default bundle. These include My Apps for recently used apps, Task for commonly used apps, Quick Tools, S Planner, Weather, Twitter, Yahoo, and Sports. However, links to the Galaxy Store definitely suggest that the new app type is expandable and more experiences are on the way.

If you are currently using and S6 edge or another recent Samsung phone, then chances are that Android Marshmallow is coming your way soon. An alleged roadmap actually suggests a December release for the Note 5 and S6 edge+, but seeing how it is almost New Year, we are more inclined to wait on an OTA in January, along with one for the S6 and S6 edge. Also, it is worth noting that some UK owners of the latter pair can participate in a Marshmallow beta test up until January 18, which is also worth checking out.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge+ receive December security update

Samsung is committed to staying true to its promise for monthly security updates, uttered all the way back in August. It’s getting progressively harder to keep track which device gets what when, but the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy S6 are now receiving their share of added security, this time in India and the Nordic countries.

The patches come as OTA updates weighing in at or below 100MB. If you’re not among the lucky ones, getting the OTA, however, and you own an SM-G928F version of the Galaxy S6 edge+, you can also download the full firmware and flash it manually.

The US versions of the smartphones, along with the other members of Samsung’s current-gen flagship family Galaxy S6 edge, and Note5 got a December update a couple of weeks ago.

As with all such releases, keep in mind that firmware update timeframes vary by region, so just because you’re not getting it today, doesn’t mean it’s not coming to…

EXCLUSIVE: Samsung Galaxy S7 renders show edge and Plus variants

We’ve seen renders of the Galaxy S7 before, but those were closer to technical drawings, used by third-party accessory makers to make sure their products will fit the new flagship. This time ITSKINS took those schematics – courtesy of and turned them into much more palatable 3D renders that should look fairly close to the real thing.

The Galaxy S7 family is split into four – any combination of big and small, curved screen and flat. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will have 5.2″ screens, while their bigger counterparts, S7+ and S7 edge+, will go up to 6″ (instead of the originally suggested 5.7″).

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7+

Obviously, the “edge” models will have curved screens, but if you look closely at the renders you’ll notice a switch around – the curved-screened units have flat backs, while the flat-screened models have curved backs (a good deal more than the current Galaxy S6).

Also note the Home button. Previous rumors suggested that Samsung will switch to a wider, but shorter key, while this one shows quite the contrary – it appears taller than the S6 Home key (this will let the fingerprint reader scan more of your finger).

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 edge+

The dimensions of the flat-screen models (which we got from an earlier leak) are 143.37 x 70.8 x 6.94 mm for the Galaxy S7 and 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82mm for the Galaxy S7+ (not bad, considering the bump in screen size). The measurements of the edge versions should be more or less identical.

By the way, chances are that we’ll see more than four versions of the S7 family once you account for chipset – both Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 have been suggested.

The screen in the renders shows March 1 (when the Galaxy S6 was announced), but that is just a screenshot from the S6 used for the render. Reports suggest February is a possibility. It’s not coming to CES though, that’s for…

Samsung Exynos 8870 chip surfaces

According to unconfirmed information, Samsung is working on releasing an Exynos 8870 chipset, which is going to be less powerful than its top-of-the-line Exynos 8890. The Exynos 8870 will be made specifically for Samsung’s external clients like Meizu.

In fact, rumor has it the Meizu Pro 6 might use the chipset when it gets to market some time next year. Expected performance of the new chipset is along the lines of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, so we’d imagine it’s not slow by any means.

Details on the architecture of the chipset are nonexistent at the moment. We suspect more information will become available as Samsung starts testing the Exynos 8870 and it pops up in some benchmarks’ database.

Meanwhile MyDrivers.com compiled a nice chart comparing the major flagship chipsets for the start of 2016. The graph shows the performance of the Samsung Exynos 8890, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, Kirin 950, Helio X20 and Apple A9 as benchmarked by GFXBench for GPU performance and Geekbench 3 for CPU stress testing.

In the CPU performance chart, the Apple A9 chip is leading in single-core performance with 2546 points, followed by the Snapdragon 820. The Exynos 8890 and Helio X20 follow closely. In multicore testing, however, the picture is quite different and the Exynos 8890 leads, followed by the Helio X20 and Kirin 950.

As far as GPU performance is concerned, the Snapdragon 820’s Adreno 530 GPU leads, while the Exynos 8890’s Mali-T880 GPU is second. Apple’s A9 GPU is third, as the Helio X20 and Kirin 950 fail to deliver comparable performance.
