Sony Xperia Z5 tipped to launch in September

Just over a week after the Sony Xperia Z3+ – which is the international version of the Xperia Z4 available in Japan – started rolling out globally, rumours are doing rounds that the company's next flagship, the Xperia Z5, will be unveiled in Japan in September this year.

Specs-wise, the device is said to be powered by the yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 820 SoC. It is expected to come with 4GB RAM, pack in a 4,500mAh battery, and feature a fingerprint recognition system. In terms of camera, the handset is rumoured to sport a 21MP Sony Exmor RS IMX230 CMOS sensor, with 4K video recording support and HDR capabilities.

Along with the Xperia Z5, Sony is also said to be planning to launch the Xperia Z5 Compact and the Xperia Z5 Ultra. Needless to say, none of this has been officially confirmed by the company. So, take it with a pinch of…

The Top 10 trending phones of week 27

Another week has passed and it's now time to direct our attention to the top ten chart. It sums up your interest in the devices in our database.

Last week's surprising debutant, the Lenovo K3 Note, not only managed to hang in, but left everybody else in the dust and is officially number one in our weekly popularity contest. It's not every day that a Lenovo phone manages to swoop in and take the crown – in fact this is the first time since the introduction of the series.

Looking down, this week we find the Galaxy S6 finally overtake the Galaxy Grand Prime, after it was sitting behind it for three weeks.

In fourth we find the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML yet again, while last's weeks forth – the Xiaomi Mi 4 – has dropped out of the top 10.

Moving on, the iPhone 6 is steady like a rock at number 5. It is followed by the Samsung Galaxy A5 and S5 at sixth and seventh place, respectively, and none of the three has moved since last week.

The affordable Galaxy E7 and J1 still occupy the bottom of the chart, but are hanging in there nonetheless. And finally, there is the Galaxy S4 at 10th place, which is the only new entry on the list this week.

Android 5.0.2 seeding for the Samsung Galaxy A5 in Russia

The Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy A5 (SM-A500FU) debuted in Poland more than a month ago and now Russia is next. This time the firmware covers the SM-A500F model.

The update is available over the air and via KIES, and weighs in at 920MB, which is not bad for an entirely new OS version. The firmware build carries an internal designation A500FXXU1BOF5 and is dated June 17.

Being a major update, the new release brings along the host of Lollipop goodies like Material design, new lockscreen and notification area, as well as improved battery life and performance. All this is garnished with an updated TouchWiz overlay, naturally.

Following Russia, the update is expected to reach a wider availability in the coming…

Nokia N1 now certified in Indonesia

Soon after it became known that the Nokia N1 was imported to India for testing, information has surfaced that the tablet is also headed for Indonesia. According to the source, the Foxconn-manufactured device has passed certification in the country, suggesting its release is nearing.

Exclusive to China at first, the Nokia N1 started to venture into new territories, first in Taiwan in May. Users outside of Asia are in no luck just yet, and the otherwise affordable tablet quickly loses its appeal if you resort to non-official channels to obtain one.

The Nokia N1 is a Wi-Fi only device and is powered by an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, paired with 2GB of RAM. The tablet features a 7.9-inch display with 1,536 x 2,048 pixels resolution and runs Android 5.0.

The highlight here is the Z launcher, which presents a different take on interaction with the OS. In case you missed it, you can go ahead and check out our recent review of the N1 for the full…

LG G Pro 3 rumored to come with S820 SoC and 4GB of RAM

The fate of the LG G Pro 3 has been an unclear one and the project was reportedly put on hold a while ago in favor of focusing on the G4. With the mainstream flagship now out and doing well, the company is apparently back on track for releasing a follow-up to the G Pro 2.

If this latest leak is to be believed, the high end phablet will sport a large 6-inch display with QHD resolution. You'd not be surprised to hear that the G Pro 3 will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, but it will also have 4GB of RAM, so we could expect some serious multi-window multitasking. There's going to be 32GB of built-in storage as well as a microSD slot for expansion.

The sources claim a 20.7MP primary camera and that carries a bit of a Sony vibe, though it could well be the 10:7 Toshiba sensor, utilized in this year's HTC One M9 and the lot. An 8MP selfie shooter will also be on board.

The handset is tipped to come with a fingerprint sensor, and we speculate it may be yet another feature to join the camera and the proprietary control layout on the back. That said, LG was believed to be skipping fingerprint reading and jumping straight to iris recognition, but it may be reserved for the G5, indeed.

The smartphone is said to be released by the end of the year, but what sounds less exciting is the rumored price. At $790 it's not exactly affordable, though befitting a top-end 6-inch…

Motorola Nexus 6 prices slashed in India

Google's latest and greatest, the Motorola-made Nexus 6 has gotten a substantial price cut in India. Major retailer Flipkart now sells the 32GB version of the device for INR 34,999 (or roughly $550) a good 20% off its regular INR 43,999 asking price.

The offer extends to the roomier 64GB version too, which now retails for INR 39,999 ($630), as opposed to the usual INR 48,999.

If that's not enough of a good deal for you, the store has an exchange program going on where you can get up to an additional INR 5,000 off the Nexus 6. You can turn in pretty much any smartphone, though some will obviously net you a smaller discount. A quick check showed that the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S4 are good for it.

There's no word on how long the offer will be active, so you may be wise to act fast, if you've been eyeing up the Nexus 6 but found it too steep until now.

Thanks to Pritesh for the…

Apple iPhone 6s reported to hit the stores on Sept. 18

There's no doubt by now that Apple is set to update its smartphone lineup (yes, both of them) this fall. There's also been the usual amount of rumors and leaks to shed some light on what could be expected. A new report now claims to detail the schedule of the launch, though not all of it looks just right.

The believable part is the date the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are scheduled to be available for purchase, despite that it clashes with previous sources. The information, which is said to originate from Foxconn, but in all honesty one could extrapolate, states September 18 as the release date. It lines up nicely with previous generations – the iPhone 6/6 Plus duo was released on September 19 last year, and the iPhone 5S on September 20 back in 2013.

What sounds less likely is the date of announcement, which is tipped to be September 11. Neither the world (certainly not the US) would want to see an iPhone on that day, nor would Apple be too happy about the keynote being the second most important event of the day.

So while the availability date sounds plausible, we'd expect the major press event to take place a few days earlier than suggested, perhaps around the the 8th or 9th.
