Lenovo S60 Android Lollipop update now rolling out

If you happen to own Lenovo's S60 mid-ranger, here's some good news for you. The Chinese company has just started rolling out the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop for this particular device.

Although it was made official this year, the Lenovo S60 launched in March running Android 4.4 KitKat, many months after Google unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Now though Lenovo is rectifying that error by releasing this update. The new software version has so far been spotted in Greece.

The rollout is happening over-the-air, so it might take a while for it to reach all devices out there. Rest assured however that your handset will notify you when it's ready to install. The download is a hefty 1.32GB affair, so you should probably make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi before grabbing it. You aren't supposed to lose data during the update process, but it's always safest to create a backup beforehand.

Skype for Android gets updated looks for better usability

Skype for Android has received an update today, which should already be rolling out through the Google Play Store.

Skype 5.6 for Android brings with it a refreshed design that aims to make the app even easier to use than before.

First off, you can now see more chats at a glance in the Recent tab. And obviously you can still jump back into one of those chats with just a tap.

Round avatars are now present throughout the app, finally making your friends' profile pictures consistent no matter where you may see them in Skype for Android. Additionally, your friends' online status will be shown on top of their avatars everywhere in the app.

Inside each chat, the bubbles now have a new color, which makes the text stand out more. The messages thus become clearer, but you can also easily tell apart what you said from what everyone else did. Apparently those who do group chats with many participants should benefit most from this.

As always, there are also a number of unnamed fixes and improvements in the new version of Skype, all designed to make the app more stable.

ZTE Axon Lux

ZTE Axon Lux is the best spec'd device of the lot – it's has a 5.5" Quad HD display and Snapdragon 810 chipset. The Axon Lux features Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass, 4GB of RAM, 128GB expandable storage, a 3,000 mAh battery and 8MP front camera. The ZTE Axon Lux will launch at $625 and for now it will be on sale only in China.

ZTE Axon

The regular ZTE Axon, which already debuted in USA and Canada, has now be confirmed it will make it to China as well. It doesn't have a the faux leather back, comes with a lower 1080p resolution 5.5" display, keeps the Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass and the Snapdragon 810 chip but with "just" 3GB RAM, and comes with 32GB expandable storage. The battery is still a 3,000 mAh unit.

ZTE Axon has the same camera setup as Axon Lux 13MP+2MP over the back plus an 8MP sensor at the front. It supports all three types of biometric security, too.

The ZTE Axon costs $435 in the USA and will be released in Canada and China as well.

ZTE Axon Mini

Finally, the ZTE Axon Mini is the mysterious one of the trio. It was announced as the first phone to feature force touchscreen and will rely on a 5.2" Super AMOLED unit. No other specs have been confirmed at this point. Pricing and availability are a mystery too.

ZTE Axon Watch

ZTE also announced the Axon Watch with 1.4" circular display, sapphire glass coating and IP67 certification. The Axon Watch other key specs include 4GB storage, 512MB RAM, Bluetooth 4.1, and a 300 mAh battery.

The Axon Watch will run on the Tencent OS, not Android Wear, and will be sold exclusively in China.

Microsoft unveils Send, a simple email client for quick chats

Today Microsoft has announced a new email app called Send. It's available already for iOS, and will come to Android and Windows Phone too in the future.

Send is very simple, being aimed at "in-and-out email". In other words, it looks like a chat client, but works with your Outlook email account and surfaces your Outlook contacts.

For now Send is working in the US and Canada for people with Office 365 business and school email accounts. It's supposed to become more broadly available at some point "in the coming months".

All of your Send conversations can be seen in Outlook, but inside Send you'll only get those threads you started from the app. Send lets you quickly blast out messages to people without entering a subject or using formal constructs. This is why Microsoft says Send is designed for "in-and-out" interactions. You get in, you quickly type a short message, then you get out.

Send has some built-in quick replies to make things even easier. These are accessed with a simple swipe. And like in the case of popular messaging apps, you also get to see when someone is typing.
