Microsoft starts beta testing Arrow Launcher for Android

Microsoft is clearly focusing to expand its presence on the Android platform. While Cortana for Android is already in works, the Redmond giant is also developing an Android launcher. Dubbed as Arrow Launcher, the app is now testing n private beta mode.

Arrow Launcher offers three different home screens. The default option accommodates four app rows out of which the top row is dedicated to recent apps. The remaining three are for frequent apps.

Swipe up gesture from the bottom reveals a menu drawer that has recent contacts and shortcuts. The home screen on the left shows the frequently and recently contacted people, while the one on the right gives an option for notes and reminders.

The dock can host up to four apps alongside the app drawer key in the center. The apps in the app drawer are laid out alphabetically and is quite similar to the app drawer layout in the Google Now Launcher in Android M. Users can also change wallpaper from the settings and can enable daily Bing wallpaper

Arrow Launcher beta is still a work in progress, so bugs and unusual behavior are likely to occur. If you wish to take the Arrow Launcher for a spin, head over to the source link to send a request to be part of the private beta testing.

The Top 10 trending phones of week 30

It wasn't exactly a turbulent week this past one, dominated by leaks on the Motorola Moto G (3rd gen) and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. An event that took place last week, however, has created a shockwave we're only witnessing now.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 and J5, which were released in India on July 16, have proven to be quite hotly anticipated, judging by their storming entry into our Top 10 trending chart. The larger of the pair, the 5.5-inch Galaxy J7 even made a run for third, but seasoned contestant Lenovo K3 Note held its spot on the podium. The more modest Galaxy J5 made it to sixth, with the company's reigning flagship Galaxy S6 sandwiched between the two.

The top remains undisturbed this week, with the Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 enjoying a comfortable lead over the Galaxy Grand Prime.

Down the ranks we have the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML, a regular in the chart, and rightfully so. The Galaxy A5 is in eighth, followed closely by the Apple iPhone 6, while the last one to make it to the chart is another Samsung handset, the Galaxy E7 affordable 5.5-inch phablet.

BlackBerry Leap battery life test

BlackBerry Leap went through our review routine and while it's hardly the easiest of recommendations it did convince us that it has its own niche.

The dated Snapdragon S4 Play chip runs on two Krait cores and Adreno 225 GPU – not the most energy efficient on the market. We've met those chips on previous Berries and they didn't live up to the modern standards. What's the case with the new Leap then?

We have some good and bad news. The good news is the Leap does better than its predecessors. The bad news – it's still not enough to be on par with the competition. With a massive 2,800 mAh battery we expected better.

Let's start from the beginning though. We hooked up the Leap on a 3G call with another device and it lasted just a few minutes past the 12 hour mark, which is a pretty decent achievement.

Moto G (3rd gen) will cost $179.99 according to carrier leak

Over the past few weeks, the next iteration of the Moto G has been leaking a lot. Basically we already know very many details about it, even as we're still a few days away from its unveiling on July 28.

One thing that hasn't been rumored a lot is how much the device is going to cost. We've only had one data point for this so far, through a retailer leak from Switzerland, and that led us to believe that the handset could be more expensive than its predecessors.

Yet now a new purported leak comes to contradict that theory. What you see above is said to be a screengrab of an inventory listing at US Cellular. As can be discerned from this image, the carrier is getting ready to sell the Moto G (3rd gen), and its price is said to be $179.99.

That's exactly as much as past Moto Gs have launched for, so it could all be good news. Then again, we still don't know if Motorola will launch two versions – 3G-only and 4G-capable – as before or will finally choose to only release one SKU, with LTE support built-in. If the latter turns out to be true, then the pricing is even more noteworthy, since in in the past only the 3G Moto Gs went for this…

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ to have 4GB of RAM too, Exynos 7420

The much-rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ will be announced alongside the Galaxy Note 5, possibly in mid-August. But it looks like the unveiling date and their phablet status aren't the only things these handsets will have in common.

A new report from Vietnam today claims the S6 edge+ will come with 4GB of RAM too. It was only yesterday when we heard the same thing about the Note 5, though in that case it was through a benchmark. This time around we have to trust the anonymous sources, who have handled a prototype.

But if they are right, then it appears that Samsung is getting ready to launch its first two smartphones boasting this amount of memory.

Furthermore, we're told that the Galaxy S6 edge+ will sport the same Exynos 7420 chipset as the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, but we'll see it's CPU clocked higher. This should apparently result in some improved performance. Interestingly, this contradicts past reports which seemed all too sure that the S6 edge+ would be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808.

The final tidbit that's been revealed today has to do with battery capacity. The Galaxy S6 edge+ is said to have a 3,000 mAh cell, which is decent but on the lower-end of the phablet space. This kind of replicates what Samsung has done with the S6 and S6 edge, giving them smaller batteries compared to last year's Galaxy S5.

Like in that case, for the S6 edge+ this will probably result in a very thin phone, but we'll have to see how it will affect battery life. As always with rumors, hopefully you've taken all of this with a pinch of salt.
