Live image allegedly shows the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact

Earlier today Sony announced a press event for September 2 during IFA. It is there where the next flagship Xperia smartphone is expected to be unveiled. This is probably going to be called Xperia Z5, and it could be the first in the line to come with a fingerprint scanner.

The leaked image you can see below is purportedly depicting the Xperia Z5 to the right of an iPhone 6, while the Z5 Compact is said to be to the left of Apple's handset.

As there's no way to confirm this picture's authenticity, a healthy dose of salt is required for this one. If it is the real deal, however, then we're looking at the first two Xperias with fingerprint sensors.

These will be embedded in the power buttons of Sony's new phones, which will be located on the right side of each handset – a placement which hasn't changed in years. This would also be the first time a company puts a fingerprint sensor on the side of a device. We've seen a lot of designs that embed it in the Home button below the screen, and others which go for a rear-placed sensor under the camera. And now this.

The Xperia Z5 seems to also have a dedicated camera shutter button, and the volume buttons are under the power button, all on the same right side. Additionally, the leaker of this image says the Z5 line will not feature the USB Type-C…

Huawei’s next Honor phone will come with a sliding camera

Huawei is already working on its next Honor-branded smartphone, even though it hasn't been long since it unveiled the Honor 7 (which we recently reviewed).

For the next member of the affordable Honor line, Huawei has packed an interesting differentiating feature on the hardware side: a sliding camera module.

As you can see from the images above, which have been revealed thanks to the TENAA certification the phone received, the two cameras of the new Honor will basically sit together on the same sliding assembly.

You'll thus be able to snap a pic with the rear camera at any time, but for the selfie unit to actually be able to work you'll first need to slide that assembly upwards. Thankfully, Huawei has thought of a pretty easy way to do just that – you simply use a dedicated button. This will be located on the left side of the device, and it will trigger the sliding up of the camera assembly.

Although at first this may seem like a completely pointless innovation, it does help to make the bezel above the screen smaller than we've seen in a lot of devices, while also fitting a dual-tone dual-LED flash for the front-facing camera as well as the rear one.

This smartphone is currently known only as the Huawei ATH-AL00, but when it launches it will get a name too. Unfortunately no details about its innards have been leaked yet, except that it might sport a fingerprint scanner embedded in that release button for the selfie camera. And as with past Honor products, it's probably going to have dual-SIM functionality and a Kirin chipset developed in-house.

Huawei P8lite review: Style on a budget

Huawei has long had a spot on the smartphone map, devices like the P8 and Mate 7 trying really hard to break new ground in the premium segment. Refined exterior and competitive specs but not quite competitive price points, Huawei wants to be a brand driven by quality, not discounts.
