Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ has its special features detailed

By now it’s no secret that Samsung is set to announce the Galaxy S6 edge+ at its August 13 event alongside the Galaxy Note 5. Through all the leaks we’ve seen so far we’ve gathered that the S6 edge+ will essentially be just a blown-up version of the already available Galaxy S6 edge.

But one area where these two will apparently differ will be software. Specifically, the S6 edge+ is set to come with some additional functionality for its curved edges, if a new rumor on the matter is to be believed.

According to “a reliable source”, Samsung will expand the Edge features with the S6 edge+. The S6 edge lets you add five favorite contacts to People Edge, after which you can get in touch with either of them with just a swipe from the edge of the screen.

In the Galaxy S6 edge+, this concept has been expanded to apps too. The Edge menu will have an additional page, which will house up to five favorite apps for you to quickly launch in a similar manner.

Not only this, but People Edge itself has been updated. Whereas before you could only see three action shortcuts for each contact (call, message, email), now when you select a person from the edge menu you’ll get a circle of six options. These let you call, video call, message, email, send a picture, or send an emoticon to that individual.

Earlier today word got out that pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ will start on August 21, with shipping set to begin on September 4.

LastPass becomes free on smartphones or tablets for new users

Despite some hiccups, LastPass is one of the most popular password managers out there. And today it’s introduced some significant changes to how its freemium app model works.

Up until now, LastPass was free for desktops and laptops, but if you wanted to use it on your smartphone or tablet you had to go the Premium route, which costs $12 per year.

From this point on, you’ll be able to use LastPass for free on the class of device you’ve signed up on. So, new users who get started on a smartphone will be able to use the app for free, not only on that smartphone, but on any other smartphone they may own – with password syncing between them built-in.

Similarly, if you create your account on a tablet, the app will be free to use on all your tablets. And if you sign up from a computer, you’ll get free use on all computers you have.

If, however, you want to benefit from password syncing between your smartphones, tablets, and computers, then you’ll still need to pony up the $12 per year and get the Premium plan. This comes with a 14-day free trial.

All of the above applies only to new users. Existing users will see nothing change in the way they are able to take advantage of LastPass. Essentially, existing users are thrown into the “got started on a computer” category, so use (and syncing) between computers is free, while for everything else you need to pay.

LastPass says it’s targeting “mobile-only” users with these changes, making it possible for them to use the app for…

Pushbullet gains end-to-end encryption

Pushbullet has announced that it’s starting to support end-to-end encryption for the main features of its apps. End-to-end encryption will work for notification mirroring, universal copy & paste, and SMS.

All of this information has been transmitted over https even before today, so it couldn’t have been peeked at by malicious individuals. But the data was still readable by Pushbullet.

Not anymore. With end-to-end encryption, the data is encrypted before it leaves your device, and is only decrypted after it’s received by another of your devices. So Pushbullet servers do nothing but forward encrypted data.

To set this up, you have to choose a password, which is used to derive a key that will encrypt your data, and manually enter this password on all of your devices. The functionality is now limited to the company’s apps for Android and Windows, and its Chrome extension. That said, iOS support is promised to come soon alongside Mac, Opera, Safari, and…

Firefox 40 is out with better support for Windows 10

Today Mozilla has announced the release of Firefox 40. The latest version of the well known web browser comes with a few new things, but perhaps the most notable is its enhanced support for Windows 10.

Previous versions of Firefox have worked fine with Microsoft’s latest operating system, of course, but this iteration of the browser comes with a new look.

This apparently leads to “a streamlined feel”, with bigger and bolder design elements, and even more space on the screen for the websites you’re visiting. All of these things are the result of a series of tweaks to the UI.

Additionally, you can now search from the Windows 10 taskbar through services other than Bing. If you’ve set Firefox as your default browser, and inside Firefox you have a different search engine than Bing set as default, then all of your taskbar searches will be performed through that engine.

Mozilla has also published support materials showing how you can make Firefox your default browser in Windows 10. This was needed because after the upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft’s OS, the Edge browser is automatically set as default.

Firefox add-ons will be going through a certification process based on guidelines that have already been made available to developers. This should apparently allow for better security. In future releases of Firefox, any add-on that hasn’t been certified will be…

Huawei Mate 8 possibly depicted in new leaked render

Huawei will hold an event at IFA in Berlin on September 2, during which it’s going to let us see its newest flagship device for the first time. This has so far widely been rumored to be the Mate 8, succeeding last year’s Ascend Mate 7.

And today a new leaked render surfaced possibly depicting the Mate 8. What’s odd about it though is that it’s quite hard to tell whether this is the front or the back of the handset.

If it is its front, then the Mate 8 looks like it will come with a slightly curved screen, emulating Samsung’s edge devices, but not going quite that far with the curvature.

On the other hand, we might actually be looking at the back side of a silver / black color version. That’s not a pairing we see often, but in this case the curved back wouldn’t be such a standout feature – after all a lot of devices now feature these, especially phablets since the curve makes them easier to hold.

According to past leaks and rumors, the Mate 8 should come with a 6-inch QHD touchscreen, Huawei’s own Kirin 950 chipset, a 20.7 MP rear camera, an 8 MP selfie snapper, dual-SIM functionality, and a fingerprint scanner. One version will pair 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage, while another will boast 4GB of RAM and 64GB of…

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo goes on pre-order in Germany

There is no doubt Samsung is going to launch a Neo version of its last-year flagship. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo already leaked a few times and even popped went on pre-order in the Czech Republic (quickly removed) and then in the Netherlands for €428.

Today the Galaxy S5 Neo is up for pre-order in Germany for €439. According to the online retailer the handset will ship on August 27. The listing has been around for a while and is still live, so we guess we can call it official.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo looks exactly like the original Galaxy S5, though comes only in black flavor. It’s still water and dust proof, offers a 5.1″ Super AMOLED 1080p display, a capable 16MP main camera and a heart-rate sensor. The S5 Neo seems to be losing the fingerprint scanner and the 4K video recording though.

As others Neo handsets, the S5 Neo switches the Snapdragon 801 chip for Samsung’s own Exynos 7580, which houses a total of eight Cortex-A53 cores, clocked at 1.6 GHz and a Mali-T720 GPU. While this is a very capable SoC, it is slower than the Snapdragon 801. The good news is the S5 Neo has a better modem, which allows for LTE Cat.6 connectivity. Plus there is a better 5MP selfie snapper and FM radio.

It seems Samsung wants to keep the Galaxy S5 for a while as it was with the Galaxy Note 3 and its very Note 3 Neo flavor. Indeed the new Galaxy S5 Neo brings some better features like 5MP selfies, FM radio and faster LTE to the package in exchange of performance throttle, 4K video capturing and fingerprint…

Watch the Samsung Galaxy S6 jump from a drone

Smartphone drop tests are multiplying by the day and once viral YouTube videos are now struggling to attract viewers. Thus the teams behind those tests are getting innovative.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 isn’t exactly new any ore, but it’s still quite an attractive specimen for a drop test because of its dual-glass design and sturdy metal frame. Today we can show you a very entertaining video, which begins as the usual meeting with the concrete and then fast forwards to a high altitude drone flight.

From the guys who brought you the 10-ton steamroller LG G Flex 2 endurance test, comes a 50m Galaxy S6 drop test done by a drone. Will the Galaxy S6 survive? Find out in the video below.

Apparently the Galaxy S6 can survive a lot of things, but it will be fatal for it to drop it from the 20th floor of…
