Well, that was quick. Just days after it was announced that Gionee will launch its first ‘made in India’ smartphone in the country before the festival of Diwali, it is being reported that the device will be launched today.

The handset – manufactured at the Foxconn facility in Sri City – will be launched in the presence of the Chinese company’s President William Lu, India chief Arvind Vohra, and N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The event will be held in the city of Visakhapatnam.

When ZTE unveiled the Axon mini back in July this year, not much was revealed about the device except a 5.2″ Super AMOLED display and force touchscreen. However, the company has now shared the detailed specs of the handset, as well as confirmed its global availability.

Specs-wise, the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 616 chipset with octa-core processor and Adreno 405 GPU, and sports a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED FHD 2.5D curved-edge screen. It comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable internal memory, and packs in a 2800mAh battery.

In terms of camera, the Axon mini features a 13MP rear unit (with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) that the company claims offers a focus time of just 0.1 seconds) and a 8MP front shooter. It comes with a pressure-sensitive touch screen, and its body is made from Boeing 787 aircraft-grade aluminum-titanium alloy. The device also supports multiple biometric authentication options, including fingerprint, voice control, and eye-scan.

On the software side, ZTE claims that the handset’s voice search function can be activated within 1.2 seconds, and it offers real-time voice translation, with support for English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. It also features voice messaging and chat functions.

An NBA variant of the Axon mini also exists, featuring images and services related to the league.

As for the availability, ZTE says all versions of the handset will be available for purchase in China through the company’s very own MyZTE store as well as JD.com and major retail outlets. The device, which comes in Ion Gold, Chromium Silver, and Rose Gold colors, will be available in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Russia, Japan, India, Australia, France, Germany, Turkey, Spain, and Italy “in the coming months”.

As for the price, the Ion Gold and Chromium Silver variants will carry a tag of 2299 CNY in China, $379 in Asia-Pacific, and €329 in Europe, while the Rose Gold variant will set you back 2399 CNY, $399, and €349, respectively. There is also a Premium Edition of the device, which will cost 2699 CNY, $439 USD, and €389.

BlackBerry’s first Android-powered handset Priv will carry a price tag of RMB 3,999 (around $630) in China, according to renowned Chinese leakster Leaksfly, who revealed the information on Weibo.

The revelation came just days after BlackBerry CEO John Chen said that the device will come with a high-end price tag. “We’ll make the phone financially affordable to get, whether that’s by installments or something else,” he had said during the Code/Mobile conference last week.

Last week, a lucky Redditor also got a chance to handle the Priv. He noted that the handset has a sharp screen and is thinner than the Galaxy Note5, although its 18MP camera took longer to lock focus when compared to the Galaxy phablet.

Apple News, one of the hot new features found in iOS 9 is not available to users in China. The Cupertino tech giant has reportedly pulled the plug on the service in the country, which is its second largest market behind only the United States.

The manufacturer has reportedly opted to block access to Apple News altogether, as opposed to trying to censor its content. The Chinese requirement has a set of censorship rules that foreign companies need to follow in order to do business in the country.

The News app’s deactivation in China affects even iOS users who visit the country from abroad. Apple has declined to officially comment on the subject.

A yet to be revealed Samsung Galaxy Grand On made its way through TENAA in China. The handset sports the model number SM-G5500 and features support for Chinese TD-LTE networks.

Specs-wise, Samsung Galaxy Grand On is listed to pack an unknown chipset with 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable storage. A 5.1″ 720p display, 8MP main camera, and 5MP front-facing snapper are also on board. The Galaxy Grand On boots Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The physical measures of the Galaxy Grand On are 142 × 71.9 × 8.5mm. Its weight tips the scale at 140 grams.

It is worth noting that Samsung Galaxy Grand On has leaked in the past as Galaxy Grand O5. The handset will likely kick off a brand new Samsung model range when it makes its official debut in the near future.

After the recent sighting of the Gionee F103L, two more Android 5.1 Lollipop powered Gionee smartphones have been spotted at TENAA – GN5001 and GN9010. It seems the Chinese smartphone maker is working to launch the couple of devices before the end of the year.

The TENAA listing reveals that the Gionee GN5001 sports a 5″ 720p LCD, a quad-core 1.3GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, and a memory card slot supporting up to 128GB microSD card. The GN5001 has an 8MP primary camera comprising of a CMOS sensor, which can record 720p videos and a 5MP front camera for selfies. Connectivity options include TD-LTE, FDD-LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. Measuring 8.6mm thick, it is a bit heavy at 188.5 g.

The Gionee GN9010 features a 5.5″ 720p display, an octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage and memory slot with up to 128GB microSD card support. It will feature 13MP or 8MP primary camera (depending on the market) capable of recording 1080p videos and a 5MP front camera. Its connectivity options include FDD-LTE, TD-LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It measures 6.9mm thick while being 145.2 grams heavy.

As reported earlier, Gionee is set to announce its first made-in-India smartphone in the coming week and we wonder if it could be either of these two devices.

This week’s Top 10 trending chart sees a lot of shuffle, with not a single phone to be found where it was in the previous edition. It’s mostly familiar faces but there’s a couple of reentries and a new number one.

The LG V10 is the last one to make the chart, dropping 6 spots down from its last week’s fourth. The Samsung Galaxy J2’s reign was shortlived – entering the chart straight into number 1 last week, it’s now in ninth keeping the V10 company.

The Motorola Moto G (3rd gen) is in eighth, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is one ahead, returning after a six-week absence. The iPhone 6s is in sixth spot, 4 down from its runner-up position last week. One of the all-time most clicked phones, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, is in fifth – if you thought that its ninth position last week was a sign of its demise, think again. The Galaxy Note5 climbs three spots and settles in 4th this week.

The Sony Xperia Z5 returns to the chart and back to the podium, after it only showed up once in the week of its announcement. The Galaxy J5 gains four spots from its sixth last week and is now the runner up to its big bro Galaxy J7. The largest of the J-series has had a steady rise to the top where it replaces another family member, the J2.

About a decade after Nokia launched the Lumia 930, Microsoft finally managed to follow up with a flagship smartphone. OK, it may have been just a year and a half, but it sure felt like ages.

Following the Nokia acquisition Microsoft put out an innumerable amount of entry-level 4- and 5-series Lumias, with only the 640 and the 640 XL grazing the midrange. Still, the 930 remained heirless month after month, the successor awaiting better times. Those have finally come with the arrival of Windows 10, and not one but two models were just announced in the high-end 9-series.

The Lumia 950 XL is Microsoft’s answer to the growing number of Notes and Pluses, packing the absolute best hardware available. A 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 810 chipset, and 3GB of RAM are par for the course of today’s flagships.

Microsoft builds on top of that with a new 20MP PureView camera with Zeiss-branded glass, OIS and triple LED flash, though we’re not really seeing actual RGB colored diodes. And what better way to cater to power users than offer them swappable batteries and a microSD expansion slot?

These are more of a necessity really, if you’re going to take full advantage of what’s perhaps the best feature the Lumia 950 XL has to offer (and the plain 950, too). Continuum turns your phone into a portable Windows 10 PC for everyday tasks thanks to the small box of connectivity that the Microsoft Display Dock is. That, and a monitor/TV you need to have already. And a keyboard. And, possibly a mouse, though you could use the phone itself as a touchpad. How cool is that!

Anyway, the Lumia 950 XL might be the only computer you’ll need. What do you think of it?

Then comes the slightly lesser Lumia 950. Slicing half an inch off the display diagonal, the regular-sized flagship comes with the Snapdragon 808 and… that’s about all the difference. Camera, Continuum, USB Type-C, you get the whole experience in a smaller package. So does the Lumia 950 tickle your fancy?

Microsoft stole the show this week with the first flagship Lumia phones in a year and a half. We wonder if it was really the new Surface Pro 4 and especially the Surface Book that got the attention while the Windows 10 Mobile phones just shared the spotlight. Gionee had a flagship of its own to launch this week.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL brings a huge 5.7″ AMOLED screen of QHD resolution, more compact and sharper than the Lumia 1520 that it replaces. This is also the first camera with PureView camera in a long while – the Lumia 640 XL had Carl Zeiss lens, but lacked a large sensor and optical stabilization.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 has a smaller screen, 5.2″ AMOLED with QHD resolution, and mostly the same hardware. It has the same camera, but the chipset is Snapdragon 808 instead of the S810 on the 950 XL. There’s liquid cooling to keep both chipsets from getting hot under the collar.

Part of Microsoft’s pitch is that the 950 family can use a Display Dock to create a proper desktop experience. For security, Windows Hello uses an iris scanner instead of a fingerprint reader.

The company even snuck in an entry-level device. The Microsoft Lumia 550 sits between the 530 and 640 with a 4.7″ 720p screen. It’s not an AMOLED as early rumors suggested though. Anyway, it runs Windows 10 Mobile on a Snapdragon 210 chipset. The camera has no fancy qualifications, it’s a regular 5MP/720p shooter.

Gionee Elife E8 boasts an AMOLED screen even bigger than the 950 XL. A 6″ QHD screen and 24MP camera with OIS and phase detection autofocus will give the large Lumia a run for its money. The Elife E8 is powered by a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with 3GB of RAM and a roomy 64GB chipset.

Last week we saw two Nexus phones – the 6P by Huawei and 5X by LG. The Nexus 6P is the first all-metal Nexus and it goes head to head with Android flagship phablets with a 5.7″ Super AMOLED screen with QHD resolution, the same display unit as the Note5.

The 6P along with the Nexus 5X have new 12.3MP cameras with large pixels, which promise an impressive image quality. No OIS this time around though. Anyway, the 5X has a polycarbonate body and a 5.2″ 1080p screen. Both Nexus phones have fingerprint readers.

LG unveiled a new flagship, the LG V10. It has a dual-screen – actually one panel with the top left corner cut off to make room for two selfie cameras. Those are used for switch between wide and narrow selfies. Like the LG G4, the V10 is powered by a Snapdragon 808 chipset, but has 4GB of RAM. It uses the same 16MP OIS camera, but with improved software.
