18.4-inch Samsung Galaxy View tablet gets pictured in latest leak

Ever since it was teased by the Korean company at the beginning of September, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy View tablet has had information about it leaked here and there. It got Bluetooth certified, then was spotted at the FCC, and through a benchmark run we found out all of its specs.

However, up until now the only image we had to go on was the one in the aforementioned official Samsung teaser, which isn’t extremely useful. Thankfully though, today six new pictures have been leaked showing the Galaxy View from all angles.

Samsung Galaxy View

These seem to be taken from a promotional video that Samsung is readying for the huge 18.4-inch tablet. This could mean that we’re finally close to the device’s unveiling, but nothing’s certain.

As you can see, the Galaxy View will feature a dock or stand that folds to keep the tablet upright, and this dock interestingly has a handle to make carrying around the 18.4-inch behemoth that much easier. The shots also show the 2 MP front-facing camera on the Galaxy View.

Samsung Galaxy View

And unlike any other recent Samsung tablet, the Galaxy View will not have the trademark physical Home button flanked by capacitive Back and Recents buttons. This may have something to do with how practical it would be to press a physical button on a device so big – either way, on-screen Android buttons will make an appearance.

The Samsung Galaxy View will have a 1080p touchscreen, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and it’s going to be powered by a Samsung Exynos 7 Octa chipset, coming with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53 ones. The tablet will probably launch running Android 5.1.1…

Xiaomi Mi 4c review: MiForce

Xiaomi Mi 4, one of the hottest Chinese-bred flagships of 2014, got two modifications over the course of its lifecycle – that’s an achievement right there. The Mi 4i was more of an attractive mid-ranger rather than a Mi 4 spiritual successor, but the Mi 4c is what we call a flagship in disguise and a true successor of the Mi 4.

Apple Mac OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan becomes available

Today seems to be one of those ‘Apple software update’ days. At the same time it released iOS 9.1 to the public, the company is also making Mac OS X 10.11.1 available. This is the first update to hit the Mac OS X El Capitan release, which itself went out just a few weeks ago.

As you can surely tell by the fact that it’s a .1 version, Mac OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan is mostly about fixing bugs. Installer reliability should be improved now, as is compatibility with Microsoft Office 2016, and VoiceOver reliability.

An issue where outgoing server information may be missing from Mail has been fixed, as well as a problem that prevented showing messages and mailboxes in Mail, and an issue that didn’t let some Audio Unit plug-ins function properly.

There’s only one new feature in this version of Mac OS, and that’s the addition of over 150 new emojis. With this release, Mac OS X now fully supports Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emojis. We’re talking about the same emojis that are also included in iOS 9.1.

The new Mac OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan is available through Software Update in the Mac App Store for all users who are running El…

iOS 9.1 is now rolling out with new emoji and better Live Photos

Starting today, iOS 9.1 is out for supported iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch devices. The latest release of Apple’s mobile operating system is already rolling out, so you may get the update notification soon, if you haven’t already.

Since this is a .1 version, you obviously shouldn’t expect it to come with huge new things. iOS 9.1 does, however, feature over 150 new emojis, a selection of which you can see in the image below. iOS now has full support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emojis, by the way.

The Live Photos functionality has been improved too, as it now “intelligently senses when you raise or lower your iPhone”, and doesn’t record those movements anymore. Of course the usual assortment of bug fixes and performance improvements are to be found in iOS 9.1 as well.

Finally, there’s a new option in Settings > Messages, which lets you allow or disable showing photos for your…

Chinese President visiting the UK will gift local officials with ZTE Axon

Some countries are known for their products, like the Netherlands and tulips. A more modern example is China and smartphones – most phone makers use factories in China in one way or another, but the country is proud of its native smartphones as well.

Some of them – like ZTE’s Axon line – aim for a global reach. President of China Xi Jinping is visiting the UK and has a busy schedule full of meetings with British officials and will take this opportunity to both promote its country’s products and make a great first impression.

It’s called “Guo Li,” an old, respected Chinese tradition that dictates an exchange of gifts at the start of any political, diplomatic or business meeting. The gift and how it is presented will set the tone for the political and business relations going forward.

A ZTE spokesperson explains how they came up with the Axon as the gift of choice.

And there’s some real symbolism to the choice of the Axon. The Axon is the first flagship smartphone from ZTE to be made available in all regions around the world, making it a genuinely global device. At a time when China is becoming more open to the outside world – and the West in particular – than it has perhaps ever been, ZTE is also taking the strategic step to follow a more global vision.

ZTE says this is just the first step to provide consumers around the globe with what it calls “affordable premium.” Work is already well under way, 7 in 10 devices sold by ZTE go out to consumers outside of China. The company has also hired design teams in the US and Germany, but remains proud of its Chinese heritage.

A ZTE spokesperson says: “We’d like to wish Mr. Xi all the best for his time in the UK, and hope that the gifting of the Axon smartphones brings good luck to everyone involved. We hope to see more collaboration between the East and the West in the future, spurring businesses and economic growth in both parts of the world – and one thing’s for sure: ZTE will be a big part of…

BlackBerry’s upcoming Android smartphone Priv could be priced somewhere around $780 in India. This was revealed by a listing on Zauba, a website that tracks the country’s import and export. As you can see in the screenshot below, a total of 4 Priv units were imported to India on October 14, each priced at INR 50,635.

Just last week, UK retailer Carphone Warehouse started taking pre-orders for the Priv, offering it for £49($75)/month on a regular two year contract and £580 ($895) off contract. New deal will let Yahoo show search results from Google

Back in 2010, Yahoo and Microsoft signed a deal allowing the former’s search results to be powered by the latter’s Bing search engine. Now, around five years later, the web giant has entered into a similar agreement with Google.

Yahoo revealed in its Q3 2015 earnings report that Google will provide some of its search results (and ads) – both on mobile and the Web. It’s a three-year deal which is non-exclusive in nature, which means Yahoo will continue serving results from Bing as well as its own search engine.

Another important thing worth mentioning is that Yahoo will have complete control on which queries are passed on to Google. “Under the Services Agreement, Yahoo has discretion to select which search queries to send to Google and is not obligated to send any minimum number of search queries,” the company said in a regulatory filing on the matter.

This is not the first time both these companies have partnered on search and ads – a similar deal was signed way back in the year 2000 which lasted for around 4…
