Less than 2.5M iPad Pro units ordered to suppliers, steep pricing to blame

Apple iPad Pro’s future isn’t looking too bright, at least in terms of sales numbers. A report from Taiwanese publication Digitimes claims that the company has placed orders for fewer than 2.5 million units with manufacturers for the rest of the year. The figures for Q1 2016 might even be lower, with the fate of the tablet hanging on this year’s holiday season shopping results.

The finger is pointed at the far from affordable pricing of the 12.9-inch tablet, which starts from $799 slate-only for a paltry 32GB of storage. A usable 128GB model is $949 and a full package with a Smart Keyboard ($169) and Pencil ($99) totals north of $1200. Add $130 for the top model with cellular radios. And that’s of course in the States, where price is typically the lowest.

On the other hand it could be argued that 2.5 million iPad Pro’s sold in the remaining two months of the year isn’t the worst result for an altogether niche product. And who knows, it may all be a marketing stunt to fuel demand, we’d leave it to Apple to know its numbers better than…

HTC RE now for only $50 from $199

The HTC RE didn’t exactly set sales charts on fire, which probably doesn’t come as a surprise considering its rather niche nature.

Now, HTC is offering a rather hefty discount on the little camera, bringing the price down to $50. If you ever considered purchasing one then this should be a good enough reason for you to make the jump. But if it didn’t quite convince you the first time around, it’s unlikely to change your mind now.

In case you aren’t aware, the RE is a compact camera from HTC. It has no display and not much of an interface. You interact with the couple of buttons on the device, one of them being the large shutter button on top. The RE is meant for spontaneous shots and not really for those who like to compose and setup their shots before capturing. The camera pairs with your phone to transfer images and you can use your phone as a viewfinder at a pinch but it would just be easier to shoot with your phone, not to mention the RE image quality isn’t exactly great. If all of that seems good to you somehow, then it’s available at the lowest price so…

Android 6.0 factory images arrive for Nexus 6P

Last week, Google released Android 6.0 factory images for the LG-made Nexus 5X, and now the company has also posted Marshmallow factory images for the Huawei-made Nexus 6P, which has recently started shipping in the United States.

Unlike its smaller brother Nexus 5X, there are only two images available for the Nexus 6P: MDA89D and MDB08K. Also, unfortunately, there is no other information available, like whether or not any of these images is for Project-Fi.

For those who aren’t aware, factory images are targeted at Android developers and enthusiasts who want to perform a clean install of the firmware. You can download Nexus 6P Marshmallow factory images by heading to the Source link…

BlackBerry publishes several Priv stock apps on Google Play

Less than a couple of weeks before BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone Priv begins shipping in the first markets, the company has posted several of the device’s stock apps on the Play Store.

The apps that are currently available on Google Play include BlackBerry Launcher, Keyboard, Camera, and Services, as well as Password Keeper, DTEK by BlackBerry, and MicrosoftexFAT for BlackBerry. Needless to say, you can’t install and test them on any other Android smartphone right now.

This is actually a good move by the Canadian company, as users will not have to wait for complete firmware updates to access a new functionality in any of these stock apps – they will be updated in the Play Store, and you’ll be able to download the update from…

Now Galaxy S6 edge+ receiving its first software update

Less than a week after the Samsung Galaxy Note5 started receiving its first software update, the Galaxy S6 edge+ – which was made official alongside the former back in August this year – has also started getting its debut update.

Weighing in at 38.14 MB and carrying a build number of G928GDDU2AOJ5, the update brings call stability, battery optimizations, as well as improvements related to the security of the device. Also, you won’t be able to downgrade after the update.

If you compare, this looks like the same update that the Galaxy Note5 received last week. Anyway, the update is reportedly currently rolling out in Europe and India, with other regions likely to follow…

OnePlus X will cost $267 according to newly leaked promo image

The OnePlus X should be announced on October 29 as a smaller Android smartphone than the OnePlus 2. So far we’ve heard it might end up costing either $220 or $249, but now it appears that it could actually be a little more expensive.

What you see to the left is a purported leaked promotional image prepared by OnePlus for its next smartphone. As you can see, it shows us quite a bit of the device’s front, but it also has a price attached: CNY 1,699.

At the current exchange rates, that means $267 or €242. Do note that this pricing is probably only going to be valid for China. Internationally the OnePlus X will surely be close to that amount, but it could be slightly different. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the phone going for $249 to $299, and €249 to €299.

According to past leaks, the OnePlus X will feature a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP selfie snapper. The source of the leaked promo image also says the handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 SoC, and will have 3GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of storage.

LG V10 will be up for order at T-Mobile and AT&T this week

The recently unveiled LG V10 is now almost ready to make its debut in the US, through a couple of carriers. The companies in question are AT&T and T-Mobile. Previously we have heard that Verizon would be selling the V10 too, but Big Red hasn’t announced its launch plans yet.

AT&T will begin taking online orders for the LG V10 on October 27, which is tomorrow. The phone will become available in stores on November 6. The carrier will have the device in Space Black and Opal Blue. You’ll need to pay $249.99 for it if you go with a new two-year contract. Otherwise you can choose one of AT&T’s Next installment plans, shelling out nothing upfront, and then paying either $23.34 per month for 30 months, $29.17 for two years, or $35 for 20 months.

T-Mobile will start its online orders for the V10 on October 28, one day later than AT&T. That said, the magenta carrier will have the handset in stores on October 30, which is around a week before AT&T. T-Mobile is offering the V10 for $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $25, adding up to a full retail price of $599.99.

The LG V10 has a dual front camera setup, as well as a secondary ticker display positioned directly above the main touchscreen. It also comes with a 16 MP rear camera, 4GB of RAM, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 chipset, and a 3,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

If you buy yours from AT&T, for a limited time you can also receive a free 200GB microSD card, as well as an extra battery and a battery charging cradle.

Flyme 5.0 now available for Meizu MX5

Meizu has begun the rollout of the Flyme 5.0 update for the Meizu MX5 flagship. The new firmware won’t up your Android version, but will upgrade the Flyme launcher up to 5.0.

The firmware is available as an OTA download, but will require you about 940MB for download and even more for unpacking and installation. Currently the Meizu servers are overloaded and the download process is very slow. We suggest to wait a few hours or a day before hitting the update button.

The new Flyme 5.0 is coming out of the box with the recently announced Meizu Pro 5, but the MX5 is the first device to get it via an update. The 5.0 version brings flatter UI with refined icons and animations, better battery life and overall stability and performance improvements.

If you own a Meizu MX5 the update should become available to you soon, if not already. If you are interested in the complete change log, hit the Via link…
