Leak reveals some details on Galaxy S7 accessories

Some details on the official accessories of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship duo has leaked. According to a new report, the South Korean company will launch the S View Cover, the Glitter Cover, the Clear View Cover, and the Keyboard Cover for the devices (see details below).

This comes just a few days after the usually reliable leakster @evleaks revealed that Galaxy S7 variants SM-G930A and SM-G935A – which we expect to be the S7 and S7 edge – are already under testing at AT&T. Another recent rumor had suggested that the flagship device(s) would be announced on February 21 2016.

There’s little known about the specs at the moment apart from rumors of a magnesium build, a USB Type-C port, 3D Touch-like features, and Exynos 8890/SD820…

Google+ gets a makeover, focuses on Collections and Communities

Google is rolling out an updated design for the web and mobile versions of Google+. Starting today, users on the web will be prompted to switch to the new design if they wish.

The new design is more than just rearranging things and making it simpler. Google had a bigger goal with this redesign, and that was to focus more on the Collections and Communities features of the service. Collections is, well, a collection of posts matching a certain interest, such as photography. Community is where people can form a community based around an interest for likeminded people to share and communicate in.

The features have been around forever but with the new design Google is putting more focus on them by giving them a prime location in the new side menu.

Google is also consolidating the design across platforms, as there was a quite a discrepancy in the way the service looked on desktop and on mobile. Following the website redesign rollout, Google will also be updating the Android and iOS apps with the same design.

The web redesign is now rolling out. Look out for the option to switch to the new UI. You will be able to go back to the older design if you wish as the new site doesn’t have all the existing…

Newest Nest thermostat lands in Europe

Nest has announced that its third-gen thermostat – which was launched in the US back in September this year – is now available in several European countries including the UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium and Republic of Ireland. It carries a price tag of £199/€249 (tax included).

In addition to the new design features, the model released in the aforementioned countries also comes with a couple of Europe-only features, including remote hot water control and OpenTherm compatibility.

The remote hot water control feature lets you adjust the hot water schedule from your smartphone or thermostat, while OpenTherm compatibility enables two-way communication between compatible boilers and the thermostat to calculate the exact amount of gas to burn to reach or maintain the requested temperature.

“We are continuing to expand our presence in Europe – the 3rd generation Nest Thermostat will be available through thousands of retail locations, professional distributors, and directly through Nest Pro installers, and at a discount or at no cost at all through energy partners,” said Lionel Paillet, General Manager of Europe for…

Sony Xperia Z3+ officially launched in US

Sony has officially starting selling the Xperia Z3+ in the United States. The smartphone was announced back in May this year and is already available in the US through third party retailers like Amazon.

Although the handset is listed on the Japanese company’s US website, clicking the Buy button takes you to the website of retailer B&H Photo Video, which is selling the unlocked version for $499.99 with next day shipping. As for color options, only black and white are currently in stock.

For those who aren’t in the know, the Xperia Z3+ – which is available as the Xperia Z4 in Japan – was discovered to be plagued with over-heating issues shortly after it went on sale earlier this year, although Sony later released an update to fix the problem.

Purported official Apple Watch dock leaks out in all its glory

Apple is reportedly working on an official dock accessory for its first wearable, wanting a piece of this market for itself apparently. The Apple Watch dock has been leaked in all its glory today, with a few images detailing its looks and functionality.

As you can see from the leaked pictures below (click the thumbnails for full size shots), the dock will be able to charge the Apple Watch while the wearable is placed onto it in one of two positions: either lying flat, or standing upright, helped by the middle section of the dock which can be raised if need be.

Official Apple Watch dock

When the dock’s core element is kicked up, it keeps the Apple Watch in a perfect position for you to use the new ‘nightstand mode’ that’s been added in watchOS 2 and can be noticed at work in the third image above.

The Apple Watch dock comes with a 2m Lightning cable, and it’s apparently rather heavy. The price in the EU will be €89, which is about $94 at the current exchange rates. It’s unclear when it will launch, but given that it seems to be ready for the spotlight we assume that will happen soon.

Pushbullet announces paid Pro tier which incorporates some previously free features

Pushbullet started out as a very nifty service that mirrored your phone’s notifications on your computer, but it’s added a lot more features in the meantime. You can now act on those notifications from your computer, send text messages from it through the apps on your mobile device, and much more – there’s even “universal copy and paste”, for example.

And while all of this functionality has so far been free, the time has come for the company behind the service to announce how exactly it plans to make money. Turns out the answer is pretty simple: through a paid tier.

Hence, Pushbullet Pro was born. This paid subscription goes into effect on December 1. It costs $4.99 per month, or $39.99 per year. The bad news is that come December 1 certain features which have so far been free will only be available if you pay.

You won’t be able to act on your notifications if you stay with the free tier, for example. Nor will you have access to Universal copy & paste. Sending messages from your computer (but using the apps on your phone) will be capped to 100 per month, while the files you send using Pushbullet will have to be 25MB or smaller, and the storage space you get will be 2GB.

On the other hand, if you subscribe to Pushbullet Pro you can send files up to 1GB in size, and you get 100GB of storage as well as unlimited message sending, and priority support.

The company obviously could have chosen to show you ads and keep the entire service free, but it says it doesn’t want “to hurt the Pushbullet experience with ads” or betray your trust “by selling your data”. If you’re interested in upgrading to Pro, you can already do that…

Next 4-inch iPhone to be based on the 5s, new rumor claims

Ever since Apple decided to join its competitors in selling devices larger than 4 inches, we’ve heard countless rumors saying that the Cupertino company hasn’t totally given up on the smaller form-factor. New 4-inch iPhones have been “imminent” quite a few times already, but none of those things actually managed to pan out.

Today we’re already at the second rumor about the next small Apple smartphone. A few hours ago we heard that an iPhone 6c was on track for release in 2016, but now a new report seems to contradict that.

First off, it says that there will be a new 4″ iPhone, yes, but it will be based on the iPhone 5s (pictured above) and not the 5c. The design of this new device should thus be extremely close to that of the iPhone 5s, while featuring some updated internals.

We can allegedly expect to see the A8 chipset in there, along with an improved FaceTime HD camera with f/2.2 aperture, and support for both 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. Those are all the hardware details we have for now, but one thing that will be missing will be 3D Touch, which will remain exclusive to the bigger iPhones.

It is claimed that this smaller product is ready for production and can be launched very soon if Apple doesn’t change its mind about it in the meantime. If certain past rumors are true, then this upgraded iPhone 5s should see the light of day in the first half of 2016.

Google Photos for Android now lets you easily free up space by deleting backed up pictures

Google Photos is gaining a few new tricks, all of which are “rolling out now” on Android and should arrive soon on iOS. These features are part of version 1.9 of the Google Photos app for Android.

First off, the service will now help you easily free up some storage space on your device, by removing local copies of photos and videos that are already backed up. This is available in Settings when you tap on the self-explanatory Free up space option.

The app can also notify you once you’re starting to run low on space, and you’re then able to easily remove backed up stuff that’s more than 30 days old from the Assistant view. This reminder now works regardless of which image quality setting you’ve chosen.

Of course, none of these actions will actually remove your precious stills and videos from the service, and you’ll see all of them in the app as before – only the local copies are affected.

Moving on, a bug that prevented media stored on the SD card from actually being deleted through Google Photos has reportedly been fixed. And starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to downgrade uploaded photos from “Original quality” to “High quality” using the Web interface of the service.

“Original quality” is just that, while “High quality” yields a smaller, compressed file, and if you go this route your images don’t count against your Google storage quota. Up until today when you changed the setting after having already uploaded some pictures in “Original quality”, stuff going into Google Photos from that point on would respect the new setting but every image already there would stay at its initial quality. You had no way to change that, and that’s going to be fixed with this update.

Google Play Movies & TV landing on an LG smart TV near you this month

LG has announced that it’s working on bringing Google’s Play Movies & TV content to its smart TVs by the end of this month. Google Play Movies & TV will be available on LG smart TVs in 104 countries.

The service will be supported on both the Korean company’s TVs running the webOS platform, as well as earlier generations which are on NetCast 4.0 and 4.5.

That said, TV shows will only be available in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, at least “initially”. There’s no word on when TV content might make it to other markets, but at least you’ll get movies in all of those 104 countries.

As you may know, Google’s service lets you buy movies and TV shows, with content being synced through the cloud onto all of your devices. This is the first time it’s going to be available on TVs not running Android…

Samsung Galaxy Note5 now comes with S-Pen warning

Samsung’s Galaxy Note5 came on the market with a flaw. The flaw was that the S-Pen slot was able to accommodate the stylus when you insert it backwards, but that actually permanently damages the phablet. Users who accidentally inserted the S-Pen backwards realized it got stuck this way.

Samsung didn’t exactly design this particular feature to be “dummy proof”. Originally such a warning was only found in the user’s manual, but the tech giant decided to take an extra step of precaution to label the film on the screen to warn users the pen should not be inserted backwards.

Inserting the S-Pen backwards, and then trying to remove it forcefully can damage the sensor that detects when the stylus is removed.

There is a way to remove a jammed pen, it requires you to insert a strip of paper to lift the clip that is keeping the S-Pen…
