Galaxy A7 (2016) passes through the FCC with 3,300 mAh battery

The second generation Samsung Galaxy A7 has been certified by the FCC, after having already received the go-ahead from the Bluetooth SIG as well as China’s TENAA. The successor to the original Galaxy A7 from earlier this year has been leaking a lot lately, along with other members of the new A family. We’ve seen the A7 in live images and it’s been spotted in a benchmark database too.

The FCC certification thankfully reveals that the new Galaxy A7 (2016) will have a 3,300 mAh battery, which is way bigger than the original A7’s 2,600 mAh cell. This means the new model should hopefully last more on a charge. The FCC says the A7 (2016) is 151.8mm long and 74.5mm wide, which means it’s narrower than its 76.2mm predecessor. The new phone has 4G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, as you’d expect.

While the FCC documents haven’t outed any more specs, the TENAA certification from a few days ago basically gave us the full picture. The Galaxy A7 (2016) will have a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP selfie snapper, 3GB of RAM, and a 1.7 GHz octa-core processor. It will run Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Given all the times it’s been in the news recently, we assume the new Galaxy A7 will become official pretty soon.

Galaxy S7 chipset gets crazy high benchmark score

The Galaxy S7 rumors keep coming our way. Today we got a leaked AnTuTu score that blows every other SoC out of the water. A source in China shows the Exynos 8890 processor in an unnamed handset with the model number: SM-G9300, scoring a ridiculously high mark on the test.

As a point of reference, the newest Kirin 950 chip from Huawei scored around 65k in the same test. The new Exynos chip allegedly scored a record shattering 10,3692.

As with any leak like this one, we can’t confirm these numbers are even real. The Galaxy S7 is expected to debut in Q1 2016 with an earlier launch than last year. Samsung believes it can better compete with other phone makers by pushing up its flagships’ launch…

OnePlus X and Oneplus 2 available sans invite all weekend

Although OnePlus isn’t discounting the X nor the 2, it is still having a cool Black Friday offer as it lets you order those without an invite all weekend. OnePlus is holding an “unlimited” sale until Monday.

Accessories are also on sale over the weekend, a few OnePlus One cases are 90% off and everything else is 10% off. You can get a Power Brick for just $1 and screen protectors for the OnePlus One for 50 cents.

OnePlus has its own USB Type-C to USB Type-A cables for the OnePlus 2 for 5 bucks. Though, we wouldn’t recommend using these with anything else but the OnePlus 2 and its charger as they were found to be out of spec.

Nexus 5X on sale in the US, 16GB version at $299

Google’s latest Nexus 5X is now on sale in the US, saving you $80 across the version range. The US Google Store, as well as major retailers Amazon, BestBuy and B&H Photo are carrying the LG-made smartphone and all colors and storage options (well, the two of them) seem to be in stock.

The 16GB version can now be purchased for $299, compared to its regular $379 list price. The 32GB variant, on the other hand, will set you back $349.

A quick reminder, the Nexus 5X is the lower-specced of this year’s two Google phones, and comes with a 5.2-inch FullHD display, Snapdragon 808 chipset and 2GB of RAM.

The headline here is the 12.3MP camera with large (as smartphones go) 1.55 micron photosites, meant to excel in the dark. Before hitting that “Order” buttun you can check out what we though of the Nexus 5X when we had it here for review.

Amazon US drops Nexus 6 to $200 for 32GB, $260 for 64GB

Just a couple of months ago the Motorola Nexus 6 64GB was $370 in the US – a sweet deal for a phone with a 6″ QHD AMOLED. Amazon’s Black Friday deal just blew it out of the water – the 32GB model is $200 and the 64GB one is $260.

That’s much cheaper than the current crop of Nexus phones, the Nexus 6P 64GB is $550. Sure, the Moto Nexus has only a metal frame instead of a unibody and the chipset is older, but its screen is bigger, the camera has OIS and you get basic water resistance to boot.

Luckily, this isn’t one of Amazon’s lightning deals and you have about 22 hours left to think about it.

Just a fair warning: don’t look at the Amazon UK or DE sites looking for a similar deal on the Nexus 6. There’s only disappointment and heartbreak…

PlayStation 4 Remote Play coming to PC and Mac

Sony is bringing the much requested Remote Play functionality to your desktop computer. Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said on Twitter that the company plans to bring the functionality to the PC and Mac and that it is working on an official application.

Some people asked if we plan to provide Remote Play function to PC, and yes, we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac. :D— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) November 27, 2015

The Remote Play functionality on the PlayStation 4 allows you to play PS4 games by streaming them to your PS Vita, PlayStation TV or select Xperia devices. But people have been asking to be able to play their PS4 games on the PC or Mac by streaming it over a local connection. With the release of the Remote Play app on the desktop, you will be able to do just that, so you no longer have to wait for the TV be available for you to play and can just start your computer and play on that instead.

Sony did not reveal any dates as to when this app will be…

AdDuplex: 7% of all Windows phones are now running Windows 10

Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile OS is now powering 7% of the company’s smartphones, according to market research firm AdDuplex. That’s up 1.3% from the 5.7% share the OS had in the Windows ecosystem last month.

It’s worth mentioning that official Windows 10 Mobile update hasn’t started rolling out yet, so the number mentioned above only represents Windows Insiders at the moment. As for other versions, Windows Phone 8.1 claims the maximum share – around 79%, while the share of versions 8.0 and 7.x stand at 9.1% and 5.0%, respectively.

AdDuplex stats also give some details on Windows Phone devices that are popular in the US. As you can see in the image below the Lumia 635 is the most popular device in the country, followed by the Lumia 640, whose share was up 2.2% compared to the last month.

The firm has also included data from Turkey for the first time, with the old Lumia 520 topping the charts there, followed by the Lumia 1320 (see image below).

The full AdDuplex report will be published on the company’s blog sometime…
