Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader updated to support USB 3.0 on iPad Pro

Apple’s Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader has long been the go-to accessory for photographers who wanted to use the iPad (or the iPhone) for transferring and editing the photos they captured on their digital camera. It is one of the few quick and easy ways to transfer images, both RAW and JPEG, from an SD card to an iOS device.

The accessory has received a minor update, that would normally go unnoticed if you don’t pay attention. As you may know by now, the Lightning connector on the iPad Pro is slightly different from those on other iOS devices, wherein it actually supports USB 3.0 but there weren’t any accessories to take advantage of it until now.

The updated Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader includes USB 3.0 support for the iPad Pro, and can fall back to USB 2.0 for iPhones and other iPads. This means if you have a high speed memory card for your camera, you will see much quicker transfer speeds on the iPad Pro with the updated reader, especially for those massive 4K videos that the iPad Pro is perfectly equipped to handle.

The reader costs the same $29 as before.

Motorola Nexus 6 no longer available on the Google Store

The 6 inch beast that went for sale late last year is no longer available from the Google Store. Last year, the LG Nexus 5 hung around the Play Store for much longer after the launch of the Nexus 6, lasting all the way until March of this year.

It looks like Google ran out of the Nexus 6 early this year. It was first available starting at $649.99 and we’ve seen major drops toward the end of its life, dipping as low as $199.99 through some fire-sale retailers.

Motorola’s Shamu was a great phone, although, it didn’t age quite as well as we’d hoped. The Nexus 6 once went for $199.99 on a few online-deals retailers.

The Nexus 6 is not gone in vain. It fulfilled a great life cycle as a Nexus device and it is now time for Huawei’s Nexus 6P to reign as the Premium handset offering directly from Google.

The Nexus 6 is not totally dead, though, you can still get one from Amazon for $349.99 with warranty.

Yahoo reportedly rules out Alibaba spinoff

Looks like the Yahoo board is more interested in selling the company’s core business. According to a report from CNBC, the board has ruled out the other option – spinning off the company’s investment in Alibaba, which is currently worth over $30 billion.

Although the report said that Yahoo’s assessment of its Internet business as well as the company’s stake in Yahoo Japan could take “a year or more,” it noted that an official announcement on the matter could be made as soon as Wednesday.

This comes just days after Verizon’s CFO Fran Shammo said that they would consider acquiring Yahoo’s Internet business if the deal makes…

Android in December: Marshmallow is on 0.5% of devices, Lollipop reaches 29.5%

Today Google has outed the December issue of its developer-focused Android platform distribution chart (which you can see in the image below). This basically tells us how much progress new versions of the OS have made each month when it comes to market share.

The newest iteration of Android is version 6.0 Marshmallow, which is now on 0.5% of devices out there. That’s up from 0.3% last month. In the meantime, Lollipop has climbed to 29.5% market share, almost 4% more than in November.

With 36.6% of the market, KitKat has dropped slightly, while the three Jelly Bean releases taken together are now at 26.9%, around 2% less than last month. Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread have both lost some market share, will the ancient Froyo is still stuck at 0.2% for whatever reason. Devices running older versions of the OS are not included, as you can see.

Marshmallow’s numbers will clearly improve in the first half of next year, when we expect to see many 2015 devices receiving updates to Android 6.0.

Apple planning March event for new Apple Watch and 4 inch iPhone

Apple is planning to hold an event in March of this upcoming year to announce the second-generation Apple Watch as well as a heavily-rumored 4 inch iPhone 6C.

The mobile industry, lately, has been seeing screens built larger and larger. Handsets that are more than 5 inches are being considered the norm. When Apple went with a larger 4.7 inch screen on the iPhone 6, most people were ecstatic, but others were disappointed.

A 4 inch screen is much easier to navigate with only one hand without having to do finger gymnastics. If Apple can manage to successfully launch a 4 inch iPhone in 2016, we hope to see the trend of smartphone screen sizes start to fall back a little bit.

Much isn’t known about the new Apple Watch. Some rumors have pointed to the a Facetime camera. Others have mentioned the possibility of Wi-Fi, additional health sensors, and sleep tracking.

We hope to see more rumors surface about the Apple Watch in light of the supposed event in…
