Nexus 5X gets $50 price cut in US

The LG-made Google Nexus 5X smartphone has got a $50 price cut in the US. The price cut is applicable on both 16GB and 32GB variants of the device, which are now selling at around $329 and $379, respectively.

Aside from the Google Store, the discount – which is valid until December 30 – is also available at many third party retailers selling the smartphone, including Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo.

This comes just a couple of weeks after the handset received a solid $80 price cut in the country, although that was for a much shorter period.

BlackBerry Priv review: Privilege is all yours

A curved screen QWERTY slider by BlackBerry that runs Android, are we getting this right? We double checked and the Priv is just as exciting as it is unique. Honestly, it is one of those things many may’ve fantasized about but nobody actually believed would happen. It’s also probably the last chance for BlackBerry to try and turn things around.

Google Play Music’s family plan is finally launching in the next few days

The $14.99 per month family plan for Google’s Play Music All Access subscription service was announced back in September, but incredibly it took more than two months for it to actually become available.

This is set to happen “in the coming days” according to Google. You’ll then be able to sign up for the family plan on Android devices in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, France, and Germany. Support for more countries is reportedly coming soon. While the initial sign-up for the family plan has to happen on Android (at least for now), after that point you and your family members can use the streaming service on iOS and the Web as well.

The plan works with up to six family members. It brings with it the exact same features that you’d have if all of you signed up separately. This includes ad-free access to 35 million songs, and, if you’re in the US, the YouTube Red service too. Play Music recommendations are separate for each person, so they’re tailored to the tastes of each member of your…

Pebble’s Timeline interface is coming to the Classic and Steel watches, beta sign-ups now open

When the Pebble Time smartwatch came around, it brought with it an entirely new user interface, known as Timeline. This is part of Pebble Firmware 3.0, and it’s now finally on its way to older smartwatches made by the company.

The Pebble Classic and Pebble Steel will both be graced with the new UI by the end of the month. If you want to get a chance to beta test the new release, you can do so if you follow the instructions at the Source link below. Do note that the beta is English-only (yet the finalized software will support French, German, and Spanish too).

Also, you’ll need an Android smartphone for this, as “restrictions within the iTunes App Store” are preventing Pebble from extending invitations to iOS device users as well. Don’t fret, though, as the final Pebble Firmware 3.8 build will be accessible by those with iPhones when it comes out before the end of the…

Flyme 5 is officially headed to the Meizu MX4 Pro, MX4, and m1 note, beta out tomorrow

Flyme OS is what Meizu calls its own skin placed on top of Android. And Flyme 5 is its latest iteration, which has so far only made it to the Meizu Pro 5 and the MX5. Yet if you own one of the company’s other handsets, here’s some good news.

A beta build of Flyme 5 will become available tomorrow for the MX4, MX4 Pro, as well as the m1 note. You won’t get the beta through an over-the-air software update though, you have to download it from Meizu and manually install.

The final build of Flyme 5 for these three devices will go out as an OTA update sometime before the Chinese New Year, which in 2016 is on February 8. Unfortunately there’s still no word from Meizu on whether Flyme 5 will make it to other handsets, or when. And don’t forget to keep in mind the fact that the Flyme update does not bring with it a new version of Android – it’s just the skin that’s changing.

LG hops onto the Apple Smart Battery Case bashing bandwagon

Quick! Let’s turn every remotely controversial new tech-related thing into a “-gate” hashtag! Remember the Apple Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s? You do? Good. #HumpGate. The Internet wins again.

And while people are busy bashing Apple’s hideous and probably overpriced accessory, what are the company’s competitors to do? Just sit idly by? Of course not. The first to join the “fight” was Asus, mere hours ago. And now a new courageous jab comes from LG.

The Korean company wants you to buy its V10 smartphone instead of the new Apple battery case. Or something along those lines. See, the V10 will only give you goosebumps, and no actual bumps. Why are we comparing phones to battery cases? Who knows. Oh, and LG wants you to hold “a moment of silence for those experiencing a bumpy ride”. Get it?

Whatever you do, don’t wonder what a moment of silence (which is generally observed after a tragedy) may possibly have to do with a battery case. Just don’t. Buy the LG V10 instead. Right?

Thanks for the tip,…

Oukitel K10000 has world’s largest battery, is now up for pre-order for $199.99

When one generally thinks about smartphones that come with extremely big batteries, we assume something along the lines of a 5,000 to 6,000 mAh cell is pictured. Those, however, have just been dwarfed by the Oukitel K10000.

This handset out of China is now the king of battery capacity, as it’s claimed to sport the largest cell ever put into a phone. As its name implies, the K10000 has a whopping 10,000 mAh battery. And it’s now up for global pre-order for those who are interested.

The normal price is $239.99, but apparently you can use the promo code K10000 to get that down to just $199.99. Gearbest will start shipping the device on January 2.

Oukitel brags that the K10000 can fully charge three iPhone 6s Plus units (or just one, but three different times) and still have 10% battery life left. This is because like many other smartphones with huge batteries, the K10000 can charge other devices if you want it to. And why wouldn’t you, considering that its battery capacity is higher than that of most laptops. The K10000’s humongous battery charges itself in three and a half hours, according to the company’s promo materials.

When you look past the battery, though, the Oukitel K10000 is nothing but a mid-range smartphone. It does however feature the nowadays trendy metal frame, and it has a rather unusual design.

The K10000 comes with a 5.5-inch 720p IPS touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 2 MP selfie shooter, the MediaTek MT6735 SoC with 1 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 4G LTE, and dual-SIM functionality. Its dimensions are 143 x 77 x 9 mm, and it weighs 184g. It runs Android 5.1…

HTC Vive to be commercially available in April 2016

One of the most talked about products that came out of MWC back in March was the HTC Vive. It’s not quite a Samsung Gear VR since it doesn’t use a smartphone for graphics. The Vive is PC-powered and runs on a gaming platform called SteamVR.

A post on HTC’s official blog states that HTC plans to distribute 7,000 more developer kits in in 2016 followed by a commercial release in April. These are new second-generation developer kits that will be launched at CES in January.

HTC has been hard at work refining, tweaking, and improving the hardware and user experience of the HTC Vive. It has been working with companies in various industries to develop new content for entertainment, medical, educational and retail applications.

We are curious to see how far HTC can get with the Vive and whether it’ll be a change in the VR and/or gaming industry.
