El kernel 4.11 ya está disponible para las distribuciones Gnu/Linux
Tal y como anunció Linus Torvalds, el nuevo kernel ha sido lanzado y está disponible para todos. Este kernel recibe el nombre de Kernel 4.11. Esta versión del popular kernel no sólo trae correcciones de bugs y problemas encontrados sino que también trae soporte para nuevos dispositivos y futuras plataformas de hardware.
El kernel 4.11 se lanzó el pasado 30 de abril, tal y como dijo Linus Torvalds, estando disponible en su web oficial o en los repositorios de varias distribuciones rolling release.
El nuevo kernel 4.11 trae soporte para la nueva plataforma de Intel, el Intel Gemini, la nueva plataforma de procesadores de Intel. Además trae soporte para los nuevos Intel Atom con tecnología de 14 nanómetros y para AMDGPU, el driver opensource de AMD. El soporte para discos ssd también se ha mejorado, siendo mejorado el funcionamiento de discos RAID. Además se ha incluido soporte para nuevos procesadores y plataformas de Hardware.
El kernel 4.11 incorpora los drivers AMDGPU
Los bugs últimos que se han encontrado en versiones anteriores del kernel también han sido solucionados, sobretodo el bug que afectaba a los drivers de Nvidia, algo que era molesto para muchos usuarios que utilizaban tales plataformas. El tema de la gestión de la memoria swap también ha sido trabajado en esta versión del kernel, mejorando la gestión de ello en el sistema de archivos btrfs, Ext4, Xfs, etc…
El kernel 4.11 lo podemos encontrar en la web oficial y descargarlo de manera gratuita para poder instalarlo en nuestro ordenador. Sin embargo, para hacer esto se ha de ser muy experto en Gnu/Linux y tener los paquetes necesarios para compilar y crear el kernel adaptado. Si tenemos una distribución rolling release, posiblemente ya tengamos este kernel en nuestro ordenador. En el caso de no tener una distribución rolling release, hemos de esperar a que la distribución lo incorpore.
