Lubuntu 17.04 no será compatible con PowerPC
Como ya ha ocurrido con el Ubuntu oficial y con otros sabores del mismo, la arquitectura PowerPC de 32 bits también desaparecerá del sistema operativo Lubuntu 17.04, el cual también ha dejado de trabajar con esta arquitectura,dejando a los usuarios de la misma sin Lubuntu a partir de ahora.
Hasta estos últimos días, sí que se pensaba que Lubuntu 17.04 iba a ser compatible con PowerPC, sin embargo,se van a dejar de publicar ISOs diarias el día 13 de Febrero, aunque sí que podremos seguir descargando las ISOs que se han sacado hasta el día de hoy, aunque no es recomendable por el tema de la inestabilidad y la falta de soporte.
Esto convierte a Lubuntu 16.10 en el último Lubuntu compatible con PowerPC de 32 bits, muriendo con él una era (aunque podremos usar la versión 16.04 LTS hasta el 2019). Con este cambio, Lubuntu se une al resto de distribuciones que han decidido prescindir de este arquitectura, una arquitectura que ya parece cosa del pasado.
Esto deja a Ubuntu Mate como la única distribución que va a trabajar con PowerPC de 32 bits para Ubuntu 17.04, así que si todavía tienes algún PC que maneje este arquitectura, será el único sabor del sistema operativo Ubuntu 17.04 que podrás usar.
El resto de sabores de Ubuntu ya descartaron el soporte con PowerPC el año pasado, debido a que es una arquitectura cada vez más en desuso, a favor de la arquitectura x84 y la x64 , las cuales son las que se usan ahora mismo en la mayoría de equipos informáticos.
Sin duda, parece que los buenos tiempos de la arquitectura PowerPC están llegando a su fin, ya que ahora son implementados en muy pocos sistemas. Fueron buenos tiempos mientras la cosa duró, pero parece que estos tiempos han terminado.
Eso si, si te quieres despedir a lo grande, aún puedes descargar las últimas Daily Builds de Ubuntu 17.04 para PowerPC en este enlace. Eso si, al ser un sistema operativo en desarrollo, no es estable (y en PowerPC ya no lo será nunca), así que no está recomendado su uso en entornos de trabajo.
