Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition ya tiene su primera beta oficial
Hace unas horas se ha dado a conocer la primera versión beta de Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition, un sabor oficial de Linux Mint que se diferencia por tener Xfce como escritorio principal de la distribución en lugar de Cinnamon.
Esta imagen ISO contiene la versión beta correspondiente a la nueva versión de Linux Mint, Linux Mint 18.1 y a pesar de no ser una versión apta para equipos de producción, lo cierto es que es interesante para conocer las novedades de Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition.
Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition tendrá como base Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, la última versión LTS de Ubuntu, lo que hace que el sabor oficial tenga la versión 4.4 del kernel así como las versiones del software más importante que están en Ubuntu, aunque con algunos parches de seguridad aplicados. Además la versión de Xfce que se utilizará será 4.12, la última versión estable de este ligero escritorio Gnu/linux.
Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition tendrá Whisker Menú y Xfce 4.12 para la ejecución de programas
Sobre esta base, Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition contendrá las últimas versión de MDM, X-Apps y Whisker Menú, el gestor de menús que gestionará los menús de la distribución. A esto se añadirá las últimas novedades que se ha introducido en la distribución respecto al soporte de hardware, al Centro de Software de la distribución así como también a lo concerniente con las herramientas de actualización y mantenimiento de la distribución.
Actualmente podemos descargarnos esta versión beta de Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition de manera gratuita desde este enlace. Sin embargo, no se recomienda utilizarlo en equipos de producción puesto que es una versión inestable y podría provocarnos problemas serios en nuestros archivos, además, el sabor oficial podría tener aún cambios radicales desde esta versión beta hasta la versión final que se espera que llegue a nosotros a finales del mes de febrero
