A couple weeks back, when reports began surfacing that Samsung’s replacement Note 7s (meaning, the supposedly fault-free ones that were manufactured after the recall) were suffering from rapid battery discharges, Forbes’ Jay McGregor wrote a piece declaring the Note 7 to be “finished.” His logic was that, the initial faulty batch of Note 7s and the subsequent recall had pushed the phone onto thin ice, that any more malfunctions — even minor ones like batteries losing charge quickly) would be a death blow to the phone’s reputation. Well, while that point was still arguable at the time, that is no longer the case. The Note 7 is done, because not one but two more post-recall, “safe” Note 7s have combusted into flames in the past week. You probably already heard about the one that happened on a domestic flight in the US. The latest case comes from Taiwan. According to several reliable Taiwan news outlets such as Focus Taiwan and Apple Daily, a 26-year-old woman was walking her dog at the park with the Note 7 in her back pocket when she heard a pop, before noticing her backside was getting warm. She immediately pulled out the Note 7 and noticed it was emitting smoke. She tossed the phone on the ground, where it soon bursted into flames.
