Verizon adds $20 fee to all smartphone upgrades

verizon-wireless-logoVerizon will soon start charging a $20 fee for anyone upgrading their smartphone with pretty much no loopholes to get out of it. Yes, a carrier is introducing a new fee without much explanation and customers are forced to deal with it. Shocking, I know. The new fee goes into effect April 4. Verizon currently

Why are thousands lining up outside Tesla stores today? Trump knows.

Today is sign up day for the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla disciples are all aflutter. Tesla is a five-letter dirty word in some parts of the auto industry. They’re often dismissed as a short-term disrupter and there are plenty of people waiting for them to fail. But Tesla believers – and Donald Trump’s campaign – adhere to Simon Sinek’s “Golden Circle” theory that people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. Today’s lines at Tesla stores (measuring in the thousands according to the Tesla Club Forum) and Donald Trump’s often inexplicable success thus far provide further proof of Sinek’s theory.

Is Crowdocracy The Best Way of Stopping Donald Trump Becoming US President?

What is The End of Politics? An alternative slogan for Donald Trump’s campaign to become US president? The title of a book by a leading member of the UK Independence Party? Or the subtitle of a new tome claiming that citizen trust in established democracies at an all-time low and suggesting it’s time for a very different new approach?

Apple iOS 9.3.1 Update Is Now Available And It Fixes A Pesky Safari Bug

Apple released iOS 9.3 about 10 days ago with several major improvements including the Night Shift mode and Touch ID support for the Notes app, but the rollout of the software update was rather bumpy as it caused activation problems for several older iOS devices and a bug caused web browsing on Safari to become unusable for many users. Apple ended up pulling back iOS 9.3 and re-released it a couple days ago to fix the activation bugs on the older iOS devices. Apple also acknowledged the Safari bug and said that a software update to fix the issue would be “coming soon,” but a couple developers found a complex workaround in the meantime. Fortunately, Apple released the iOS 9.3.1 update today to fix the troublesome Safari bug.

Is Facebook Looking To Enter The Mobile Payments Business?

Recent reports suggest that Facebook might roll out an in-store mobile payment option on its Messenger app, which the company is currently upgrading. As the social media site inches closer to the 1 billion user mark, the company may be planning to make messenger an “Everything App” which will ensure that users can access a broad range of services and businesses. The company recently announced a partnership with KLM airlines that will allow KLM customers to receive flight confirmations, boarding passes, reminders and flight status updates directly through Facebook’s Messenger App. While CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned on the recent earnings call that the company is not a payments business, Messenger allows users to transfer funds to their friends, and recent reports suggest that changes in the app’s code may expand Messenger as a payments tool. While Facebook would face intense competition from players such as Apple Pay and Android Pay in the mobile payments space, Messenger’s expanding utility for other functions could put it in an advantageous position and generate a new revenue stream for Facebook.
