It is election season. But you didn’t need me to tell you that. It seems like there is a debate every week. It is also the season when many meteorologists and climatologists are watching one of the strongest El Niños on record gradually weaken and possibly transition to La Nina phase. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says,
A weakening El Niño continues. Tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures are still much warmer than average, but subsurface temperatures—El Niño’s “heat source”—have declined sharply………Transition to ENSO-neutral is likely by early summer 2016, with close to a 50% chance for La Niña to develop by fall.
La Niña (the “little girl” in Spanish) represents a decrease in sea surface temperatures in the eastern and central equatorial Pacific. It is the “cold event” counterpart to the El Niño warm event. Both are a part of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Like its warm sibling, La Niña is associated with teleconnections that affect seasonal weather patterns. Weather.com has an excellent discussion of typical effects of La Niña on U.S. temperatures, rainfall, and hurricane activity. Scientific analyses suggests that strong El Niños are often followed by La Niña. There is statistical evidence and physical underpinnings to support this observation though caution should be exercised before making this a “rule of thumb.”

Fitbit has announced that it has shipped more than a million units of its Blaze smartwatch in the first month of the device’s availability. The timepiece, which went on sale in the first week of March, has also become an Amazon best-seller both in the smart watch and heart monitor categories.

Como algunos ya sabréis, estos días se están produciendo algunas importantes conferencias por parte de Microsoft. En ellas se han hablado sobre dispositivos y aplicaciones, como por ejemplo Skype, la conocida app de mensajería y llamadas que podemos utilizar tanto en Windows como en Android y otros dispositivos.
El caso es que Skype ha vuelto a recibir una importante actualización, después de que no pasara tanto tiempo de que recibiera la posibilidad de hacer llamadas de vídeo en grupo tanto para PC como para smartphones. Lo cierto es que se trata de bots, algo que se ha hablado en WinPhoneMetro, aparte de integrar otro servicio que de seguro os será de gran utilidad a muchos de vosotros.
Dada la gran competencia que sufre Skype ante otras muchas aplicaciones de mensajería como Telegram, los de Redmond han querido empezar a trabajar duramente para contrarrestar los posibles efectos del auge de las otras aplicaciones basadas en las mismas funcionalidades.
Por lo tanto, lo primero que han hecho ha sido integrar Cortana en el cliente de Skype, algo que hemos conocido por Androidsis. De esta forma tendréis un asistente virtual que actuará como un Skype Bot, ayudando de esta forma a los usuarios a identificar personas, lugares y topo tipo de cosas que se extraigan de los mensajes que mandemos.
Otras tareas que gestionará el Skype Bot es la de gestión de viajes y reservas de hoteles y la del calendario. De momento sólo estará disponible para el servicio de mensajería, pero Microsoft ha confirmado ya que más tarde también se encontrará en las llamadas de voz y vídeo.
Podéis descargar la versión aún no actualizada de Skype desde Google Play, estando disponible para todas las plataformas. Como siempre, la app se encuentra de forma completamente gratuita, ¡así que no dudéis en probarla!
