Upcoming Samsung SM-T585 tablet gets benchmarked, has specs revealed

A new Samsung tablet is in the works, folks. This has been revealed because the Samsung SM-T585 has been benchmarked using GFXBench by someone in possession of a prototype. This has thankfully revealed the device’s most important specs.

Thus, the SM-T585 comes with a 10-inch 1,920×1,200 touchscreen, Samsung’s Exynos 7870 chipset (boasting a 1.7 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali-T830 GPU), 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 2 MP selfie snapper, and pretty much all the usual connectivity options (sans NFC though).

The Exynos 7870 SoC was made official recently, and so far we’ve only seen it powering one variation of the upcoming Galaxy J7 (2016). Because its model number ends in “5”, and given Samsung’s past naming conventions, the SM-T585 should be the LTE-capable iteration of the Wi-Fi-only SM-T580. If so, then expect to see support for LTE Cat.6, since that’s built into the chipset.

It’s still very much unclear what branding Samsung will choose for this tablet. We might be looking at the 10-inch Galaxy Tab 5, or a new Galaxy Tab E or Galaxy Tab A model. Either way, it will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow from day one.

En más de una ocasión hemos comentado el compromiso de Sony con sus consumidores en traer la última actualización de Android Marshmallow 6.0 a la línea Z5 de sus teléfonos móviles. También dijeron que harían lo mismo con otros Xperia, como por ejemplo las tabletas, aunque no habíamos obtenido demasiada información sobre ello.

Hace tan sólo unos días os informábamos que esta promesa se estaba empezando a cumplir con la actualización de los Sony Xperia Z5 a la última revisión, aunque os avisábamos que no debíais dar demasiadas palmas en el aire, puesto que hasta el momento sólo era posible para los consumidores japoneses. Hoy por fin os podemos dar una buena noticia y además, con alguna que otra sorpresa añadida.

La actualización ya es de forma global, también para España

El hecho de que hoy volvamos a escribir sobre este dispositivo se debe a la información encontrada en Androidpit.es, lugar donde se informa que por fin ha llegado esta actualización de forma global, es decir, para España, México, Argentina, Colombia y una gran cantidad de países en los que todavía no había aterrizado. Lo podréis hacer vía OTA, por lo que en principio recibiréis un mensaje en el que os avisará de que ya podéis instalar la revisión disponible. Si no se da el caso, siempre podéis ir a los Ajustes e Información del teléfono para comprobarlo de forma manual.

Otro dato muy importante es que no sólo los buque insignia Sony Xperia Z5 que analizamos anteriormente son los que se actualizan, sino que también lo hacen otros modelos como la Xperia Z4 Tablet y el Sony Xperia Z3+. ¡Si poseéis cualquiera de estos dispositivos sois algunos de los afortunados!

No serán los únicos ni los últimos en recibir Android 6.0, ya que Sony se comprometió en hacerlo también con los siguientes smartphones y tablets:

  • Xperia Z3

  • Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

  • Xperia Z3 Compact

  • Xperia Z2

  • Xperia Z2 Tablet

Birds Sing Duets To Reduce Cheating

If a male songbird is worried about his mate’s fidelity, should he react violently towards a rival male, or should he sing a song duet with his mate when a rival shows up? A newly published study in the red-backed fairy-wren, a highly promiscuous species with high rates of extra-pair paternity, reveals that physical aggression towards an intruder accomplished nothing, whereas males who sang a duet with their mate had a significantly higher rate of paternity. These results suggest that song duets acted either as acoustic mate-guarding or as male–female vocal negotiations that lead to increased paternity.

OnePlus unveils its own installment plan for the US market

Following in the footsteps of Samsung, itself emulating Apple’s strategy, OnePlus has today launched its own installment system for purchasing its products. That said, it’s quite different from the others, since you can’t switch devices after a set period of time. It’s only available in the US right now, and you’ll obviously have to use the OnePlus online store to buy what you want to pay for in monthly installments.

The system can be chosen for any order that’s over $99, but it’s just an option – if you prefer to shell out the entire amount upon checkout, you can still do that too.

To go the installment route, you need to select PayPal Credit as the payment option when completing your order. There’s a calculator function that will then show up, telling you exactly how much you’ll pay every month. For the OnePlus 2, going with the 18-month plan means you’ll have to pay $22.60 every 30 days, while for the OnePlus X that’s going to be $16.12 every month for one and a half years.

Do note however that this isn’t an interest-free installment arrangement. If you choose to pay monthly, by the end of those 18 months the OnePlus 2 will have cost you $406.80, which is $57.80 more than its $349 price. In the case of the OnePlus X, you’ll end up paying $41.16…
