El HTC Vive es el único rayo de esperanza entre las pérdidas de HTC

Que HTC lleva mucho tiempo pasando por un mal momento económico ya no sorprende a nadie. A pesar de haber conseguido beneficios en abril de 2015 y de saber que volvieron a perder dinero a principios de este año, los taiwaneses siguen inasequibles al desaliento y lo han apostado todo al HTC One M10, del que ya vimos un primer render a primeros del mes pasado.

Aún con todo, 2016 pinta igual de mal que 2015 para HTC. En el último trimestre de 2015 perdieron la friolera de 101 millones de dólares, y a pesar de que habían conseguido ingresos por valor de 129 millones de dólares en febrero de este año, supone un descenso de un 54% con respecto a las cifras del mismo mes del año pasado. Además, también supone un 36% menos de ingresos que durante el mes de enero de este año.

Puede que la salvación no sea un smartphone

La empresa de tecnología taiwanesa necesita algo que frene su caída, y puede que la salvación no sea un terminal móvil. El casco de realidad virtual HTC Vive está generando una gran expectación, y la empresa habría vendido cerca de 15.000 unidades del mismo en los primeros 10 minutos de su vida en los mercados. El precio relativamente alto puede ser demasiado para alguos consumidores, pero eso no parece asustar a los inversores: durante los últimos días, las acciones de HTC subieron un 21%, alcanzando un precio máximo histórico desde junio de 2015 según podemos leer en Android Authority.

Vale la pena señalar que aunque las precompras del HTC Vive empezaron el pasado mes de febrero, el número de envíos no se contará en los ingresos de la empresa hasta que los usuarios reciban las unidades que pidieron.

Parece que, después de todo, no todo está perdido para HTC. Puede que su división de smartphones esté atravesando momentos duros, pero eso no significa que el HTC Vive y otros wearables no puedan ayudar a la empresa a recuperarse y volver a días más luminosos.

Facebook Messenger for Android finally receives Material Design makeover

Later today, a new version of Facebook Messenger for Android will start rolling out through the Play Store. This will finally adhere to Google’s Material Design guidelines, now almost two years old. Still, the Messenger app is ahead of the actual Facebook app in this regard, belive it or not.

Various Material Design elements have been in testing by the Messenger team over the past few months, and have been spotted in a number of beta versions of the app. The company has also enabled them for some users, but not for others, in what’s known as A/B testing. But now the new design is going out to everyone.

The rollout itself might take a few days to complete, as is always the case with such things. You can get an idea of what Facebook Messenger will look like after the update by glancing at the screenshots above.

Facebook Messenger updated with Material Design

It’s been a while since Material Design first started making its way into the real world, especially from third-party apps like Facebook, but the social network’s messaging app is finally getting updated.

The announcement was made today via the official Messenger Facebook page, confirming that the update to the popular app will be rolling out beginning later today. The post explains that Facebook’s Messenger team has been working on the Material Design update for quite some time, but considering how important the app is for so many users around the globe, it took time to get it right.

The brand new design will bring in the Material Design philosophy, and it will also let the Messenger team to implement new features faster down the road. It’s also been confirmed by the company that more design changes are in the works, and those will be rolling out in the following weeks. What that actually means, though, remains to be seen.

Xiaomi Mi Powerbank, 10.000 mAh y USB Type-C por sólo 20 euros

Hay muchas opciones en el mercado para asegurarse de que siempre vamos a tener un poco de enrgía extra en nuestro smartphone. Tenemos soluciones como el Xtorm Power Bank, el Aukey Power Bank y el Huawei Honor Power Bank, que nos ofrecen autonomía suficiente para alargar con creces la de nuestro smartphone.

Últimamente existe una tendencia al alza a crear baterías externas que ofrecen soporte para USB Type-C para los dispositivos más actuales. El último en llegar ha sido Xiaomi, que ha presentado un nuevo Mi Power Bank de 10.000 mAh con soporte para el nuevo tipo de conector, según hemos podido leer en Android Authority. Anteriormente Xiaomi ya había presentado su propia solución externa de alimentación.

Compatible con el último flagship de Xiaomi y los últimos Nexus

El nuevo Mi Powerbank ha sido diseñado con el Xiaomi Mi 5 en mente, dado que el último flagship de los chinos incorpora un conector USB Type-C. Sin embargo, si tienes uno de los nuevos Nexus 5X o 6P –o un OnePlus 2– también podrás utilizarlo. Además de este nuevo conector, encontraremos carga rápida para configuraciones 5V/2A, 9V/2A, y 12V/1.5A. Desde Xiaomi se dice que esta batería externa se puede cargar completamente en tres horas y media gracias a la carga rápida, lo que supone una mejora del 40% con respecto a power banks anteriores.

Además de todo esto, Xiaomi ha hecho algunos cambios en su última oferta de baterías externas. El nuevo Mi Powerbank es más ligero y pequeño que antes, con un peso de 223 gramos y de sólo 1,26 centímetros de grosor. Además, Xiaomi está vendiendo el producto por 149 Yuan, lo que al cambio son unos 20 euros. De momento esta batería externa sólo ha sido anunciada en China, pero es presumible que dentro de poco aparezca en las tiendas globales de accesorios relativamente pronto.
