New Apple iPhone Needs One More Thing To Win In 2016

After a record-breaking finish to 2015, Apple dampened speculation for 2016 during the quarterly earnings call. The key to success for Apple this year may be derived from new technology, updated form factors, and more efficient production, but the real key to continued growth is simple. Can Apple get people to upgrade their hardware?

What Is The ‘Maya Express’ And Will It Cause Flooding U.S. Rains This Week?

Dr. Thomas Mote, a UGA hydroclimatologist and I are teaching a graduate seminar on atmospheric rivers at the University of Georgia this semester. We have been reading an array of literature on the topic. Recent discussions centered on a paper that suggested the “Nashville Floods of 2010” were partially linked to an atmospheric river that supplied moisture from the tropical Eastern Pacific and the Caribbean. If you need a refresher on atmospheric rivers, I describe them in a Forbes piece last year. As my colleague Professor Mote notes,

“These are very narrow streams of moisture, but they play an oversized role in determining how much rain and snow falls in the western U.S., in particular. When and where these rivers occur can make the difference between conditions favorable for a flood or a drought for places along the west coast.”

A subset of the Pacific-originating atmospheric rivers is called the “Pineapple Express. Many are familiar with the term because of the influence these atmospheric river systems have on the west coast of the United States. Atmospheric rivers are currently in the news again because they are expected to finally unleash significant rains on that region as perhaps one of El Nino’s last gasps. “Pineapple Express” is probably the more familiar term, but what is the “Maya Express”? The central and southern United States may be about to find out.

Just fought the ender dragon for the first time in 1.9 via /r/Minecraft

Just fought the ender dragon for the first time in 1.9

And holy crap it is tough! (Story ahead)

Background: The map of the server I tried it on was from 1.8, so the dragon was already dead. The difficulty was on hard. My base was ~45 minutes from the nearest stronghold, and I didn't set my spawn there so I wouldn't have to run 45 minutes back to my base after defeating it. I even brought a fried with me to help, so I imagined it would go smoothly.

The actual fight: After we got into the end, I placed the crystals to resummon the dragon. While the animation was going, my buddy looked at an enderman and got torn apart, even though he was wearing enchanted diamond armour. While he was running back to the stronghold, I was fighting the dragon, and it was going pretty well (<50% health). Then, disaster happened when my chestplate broke and endermen ripped me apart, while teleporting away before I could hit them back.

With both of us dead, we met up again after a long walk. I brought a new chestplate and some food with me, and jumped back into the portal after eating a Notch apple my friend gave me.

The apple ended up saving me, as the dragon knocked me about 30 blocks into the air, just before getting my feather falling boots back. With both of us geared up again, we brought the dragon down to 25%, when my companion unsuccessfully tried to bath in dragon's breath and died for the second time. Although endermen kept giving me a hard time, I was finally able to kill the dragon in 1.9!

TL;DR Endermen OP

PS: sorry for the bad sentence structure.
