Why We’re Going To See More Games Like ‘The Division’ And ‘Destiny’

The Division closed beta just ended, piquing the video game community’s interest and generating plenty of comparisons to the other large console MMO we’re working with right now, Destiny. It follows a certain trend in the console industry right now that I expect we’re only going to see more of in the years to come. Destiny has had a bit of a rough start, but it managed to stabilize with The Taken King, and while it’s having some trouble now, Bungie is going to get another crack at things with Destiny 2. And while The Division has obviously not launched yet, the production values alone represent a certain amount of faith in the format by one of the largest video game publishers in the world.

Alphabet Reports Earnings, For The First Time Breaking Out Core Google As Ad Revenues Improve

Alphabet (NADDAQ:GOOG,GOOGL) announced fourth quarter results on February 1st, for the first time breaking out both core Google’s results and its “Moonshot” business as separate businesses. In toto, the company reported 18% year-on-year growth in revenues to $21.2 billion, in line with our expectation. On a constant-currency basis, revenues grew 24%. Google segment revenues for the year totaled $74.5 billion and were up 13.5% over the prior year. Core Google is solidly profitable, sustaining and operating margin of 31.3%. In contrast, Alphabet’s many venture businesses generated revenues of $48 million and operating losses of $3.6 billion.

Marshmallow adoption finally surpasses 1% after four months

Where are all the updates?! Photo: GoogleFour months after making its official debut, Android 6.0 Marshmallow has finally been installed on more than 1 percent of compatible devices. Google’s latest update is expected to get a boost in the comping months as new devices from Samsung, LG, HTC, and others go on sale — but that figure is pretty depressing at this point.
