What Makes Super-Hot Chile Peppers “Hotter Than Hell”?

According to researchers at New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute, super-hot chile peppers — those with more than one million Scoville Heat Units — grow fruits with a different structure than those produced by “ordinary” chile peppers. Super-hot chile pepper fruits are rumpled, which creates more surface area in the walls of the fruit where additional capsaicinoids are embedded, which produces an extremely hot chile. This structural difference is thought to be the result of a genetic mutation.

Playstation Store Leaks ‘Uncharted 4’ Open Beta

There hasn’t been an official announcement, but a screen from the Playstation Store appears to confirm an open beta for Naughty Dog’s upcoming Uncharted 4.  The page has since been taken down, but not before the Internet at large as able to scour all of the relevant details — hat tip to Eurogamer. It’s for European players only, so anyone in America or elsewhere is out of luck, but the beta begins this Friday, March 4th at 5pm GMT, and run through March 6th. It will feature 3 team deathmatch maps based on the Uncharted 4 singleplayer campaign.

TED Fellows: A World Of Indigenous Ideas

For many years – a TED Talk meant you were listening to a rock star. A leader in their field who’s work had reached the pinnacle of intellectual pursuits and recognition. Microsoft Monday: Data That Windows 10 Collects, ‘Free’ Windows 10 Shows Ads, Android App Port Nixed

“Microsoft Monday” takes a look back at the past week of news related to Microsoft. This week, “Microsoft Monday” includes details about the data that Windows 10 collects, ads appearing on the lock screen, the shutdown of Qik, several new Android apps, the acquisition of Xamarin, the cancellation of Project Astoria, the Bill and Melinda Gates annual letter, the Xbox One getting Universal Windows 10 apps, the backing of Apple in the FBI case and more.
Windows 10: What Does It Collect?
When Windows 10 was released, Microsoft acknowledged that the operating system has a telemetry and diagnostics service that cannot be disabled completely. Data collection was optional in previous versions of Windows, but Microsoft has taken a more aggressive stance in Windows 10 by making it mandatory. Microsoft uses this telemetry data to fix bugs and security issues.
The collection of telemetry data is common with many products that connect to the Internet. Google collects telemetry data to find out how users interact with its online services and many of the largest wireless carriers companies share telemetry data for safety and quality purposes.
What type of telemetry data does Microsoft collect? There are four types of Universal Telemetry Clients (UTC) on Windows 10: Basic, Enhanced, Full and Security. The Security UTC runs only in Windows 10 Enterprise and Education editions. This is the type of data that each of the UTC levels collects:

Golden State Warriors’ Disruptive Formula For Success Applied to Investing

You kids get off of my lawn!  That is the unmistakable conclusion to recent proclamations from NBA legends about this season’s Golden State Warriors.  The Warriors are on pace to break the NBA record for most wins in a season–currently 72 and held by the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls–and yet the chorus of naysayers continues to grow.  The harshest critique came last week from NBA Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who seemed to attribute Golden State’s success to poor schematic designs by opposing coaches.

Samsung reportedly selling edge displays to other manufacturers

Samsung’s edge displays have been a differentiating factor in the smartphone game, not only offering a unique appearance but having some new features to go along with them. But that may soon change, as Samsung is reportedly going to be selling the edge displays to other manufacturers to use in their smartphones.

The companies allegedly in talks with Samsung are Huawei, Xiaomi, and Vivo (above is a leaked image of the Xplay5). The BlackBerry Priv apparently uses a Samsung edge display, and while it doesn’t serve any functional purpose, you have to admit that it looks pretty good.

In the end, it will result in more unique devices and that’s great for the customer. A budget Huawei or Xiaomi phone with curved screen edges sounds great, since the edge displays are only on flagships in the Samsung lineup. What do you think about Samsung giving up a differentiating factor like the curved edge displays? Leave a comment!

ASUS announces Marshmallow rollout plans

ASUS has announced its plans for the Android 6.0 update we know a lot of people are waiting for. Though Marshmallow launched almost five months ago, many companies have still not released the update for their devices. We should be used to this by now, though, as it’s been a trend with Android devices since the OS came out.

ASUS will be updating a bunch of phones to Marshmallow in Q2 of 2016, so June at the latest. Here’s the list of devices to be updated:

  • PadFone S (PF500KL)
  • ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML, ZE551ML)
  • ZenFone 2 Deluxe (ZE551ML)
  • ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition (ZE551ML)
  • ZenFone 2 Laser (ZE500KG, ZE500KL, ZE550KL, ZE551KL, ZE600KL, ZE601KL)
  • ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL)
  • ZenFone Max (ZC550KL)
  • ZenFone Zoom (ZX551ML)

When these devices do receive the update, the messenger, mail, and calendar ZenUI apps will be replaced with the Google versions. If you’d like to keep the ASUS versions, they’ll be available on the Play Store. The updates are still a few months out, but at least the company isn’t abandoning these devices.
