In late December of last year, a large number of Ukrainians were left without power, due to unscheduled outages at a trio of power companies. It wasn’t clear what brought down the power grid at the time, but the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team, in conjunction with a number of other authorities, has since confirmed that it was a cyber-attack that was responsible.

The notebook market is one that has always been extremely competitive with some vendors eliminated from the market and others absorbed by competitors. This has led to some serious consolidation in the market, particularly in the high-end where it is increasingly difficult for notebook makers to make a compelling high-end notebook. The 15” premium consumer notebook space has effectively become a three horse race between Apple, Dell and HP. Apple currently leads the market in unit and revenue share in premium notebooks with their line of MacBooks and Apple has led the charge in many new form factors. Dell has done an especially good job with their XPS line of premium notebooks even though HP is hot on their heels. Their biggest member of the XPS family is the Dell XPS 15 (9550) which they recently refreshed this winter and I have been using for the past two months. The Dell XPS 15 is the best 15” consumer premium notebook I have ever experienced so far.

Non-Volatile Memory Express, or NVMe, is an interface specification specifically designed for attaching solid state storage media – like NAND flash – to computers via PCI Express. Part of the reason NVMe came to be is because solid state drives quickly began to bump into limitations of the legacy, and ubiquitous SATA interface. In real world situations, for example, the SATA interface tops out at roughly 550MB/s, which many entry level solid state drives can now achieve with sequential reads. NVMe is not bound by that limitation, and the spec incorporates many other things, like a higher max queue depth, to squeeze much more performance form solid state storage media.

Hace unos días llegaba a su fin una de las ediciones más concurridas del MWC en Barcelona. El Congreso Mundial de los Móviles nos ha dejado una interminable lista de dispositivos y teléfonos que traen lo último de lo último al panorama tecnológico. Y es que en este evento hemos podido ver terminales como el LG G5 y su diseño semi-modular, o el Samsung Galaxy S7, uno de los smartphone más completos jamás vistos hasta la fecha.
No obstante, Sony ha dado la sorpresa presentando una línea de terminales inesperados, los nuevos Xperia X. El tiempo parece correr a una velocidad diferente para la firma japonesa que para el resto, y es que hace menos de seis meses Sony presentaba el Xperia Z5, un flagship en toda regla. De cualquier manera, la nueva línea Xperia X introduce diversas novedades que mejoran sus antecesores.
Si los nuevos fondos de pantalla de Sony te llamaron la atención cuando los dispositivos fueron presentados, ya es posible descargarlos, gracias a Xperia Blog. Actualmente, hay 8 posibles fondos que descargar, aunque la mayoría ostentan el mismo diseño, cambiando sólo el color. Aunque estén a un tamaño de 2160 × 1920 píxeles, podrás recortarlos para que se ajusten a la resolución de tu dispositivo.
Tal y como se aprecia en las imágenes, presumen de un gran toque artístico, aunque ni rastro de Material Design. Sony ha elegido tonos suaves y lo que parecen ser trazos anchos y alargados. Gracias a esa elección de colores y formas, los fondos en conjunto transmiten buenas dosis de sosiego y tranquilidad, al menos en mi opinión.
Si hablamos del Sony Xperia X Performance se postula como uno de los mejores dispositivos del año, en la línea del LG G5, Galaxy S7 y Xiaomi Mi 5. El terminal presume de un Snapdragon 820 en su interior, corriendo a 2,15 GHz y acompañado de 3 GB de RAM, cantidad más que suficiente en la actualidad. Además tenemos una batería de 2.700 mAh con la promesa de duración de dos días y una excelente cámara de 23 megapíxeles.
En cuanto a la versión normal, el Xperia X, estamos ante un procesador un poco menos capaz, el Snapdragon 650 a 1,8 GHz, aunque también lo acompañan 3 GB de RAM. Aunque ambos dispositivos sean de 5 pulgadas con resolución Full HD, el Xperia X ostenta una batería de 2620 mAh, pese a que comparten sensor de cámara, de 23 megapíxeles.
