Intel Launches New Platforms & Partnerships To Accelerate The Development of 5G

It is well known that Intel commands a lions share of the PC and Server processor markets, having been the leader in both for over two decades. Yet the company missed out on the mobile computing revolution, and as a result has a negligible presence in the market. The company failed to see the potential of the ARM-based processors that power the majority of the mobile phones today. Intel invested heavily on WiMax, a 4G technology that lost out to the LTE ecosystem. However, it looks like the company has learnt from its past mistakes and is going all out to gain a wide presence in 5G. At the ongoing Mobile World Congress, Intel detailed its 5G plans and a number of industry collaborations to accelerate the development on 5G.

Ubisoft Developer Accuses Naughty Dog Of Stealing ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Art For ‘Uncharted 4’

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was such a great game, it would seem, that even Uncharted 4’s Nathan Drake is a fan. Naughty Dog released an impressive trailer for their new swsahbuckling epic today, and one developer from Ubisoft noticed something awfully familiar about a piece of artwork that Drake looks at towards the end of the trailer. It’s concept art from Assassin’s Creed, says Assassin’s Creed head of content Aymar Azaizia. Ubisoft’s Alex Hutchinson joined in too. The similarity is pretty striking. Here’s the shot from the trailer:

‘Hitman’ Is Getting A PS4 Open Beta, Too

It used to be that releasing buggy games with borderline functional to outright broken servers was all the rage, but now, it seems, open betas are coming into vogue instead. Square Enix’s upcoming Hitman recently had a closed beta for pre-order customers, but the developer has announced that PS4 owners with PS+ will also be getting an open beta starting on March 4th. The open beta will feature the game’s training level along with a hint of the title’s open-ended assassinations.

ZOPO Speed 8 hands-on from MWC 2016

ZOPO Speed 8 is the world’s first smartphone to feature the MediaTek’s flagship Helio X20 SoC. In case you don’t know about this beast – it’s the first chipset with a deca-core processor (yes, this means 10 CPU cores).

We did a tour to ZOPO’s booth and grab a Speed 8 for a quick hands-on.

It packs a 5.5″ IPS 1080p display, comes with a 21MP Sony IMX230 camera with phase-detection AF and a dual-tone flash, and there is an 8MP selfie shooter with a front LED flash, too.

Check out the full hands-on of the ZOPO Speed 8…

Xiaomi announces Mi 5 with some impressive specs

The Xiaomi Mi 5 has officially been announced, and it looks promising. It features a 5.15-inch full HD display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage, a 16MP rear camera with OIS, a 4MP front-facing camera, a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 via a USB Type-C port, NFC, fingerprint sensor, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the MIUI skin.

The device has a metal frame and a glass back. If you opt for the highest-end model, though, you’ll get what Xiaomi calls a 3D ceramic back. It’s rated at up to 8H on the Mohs harness scale, so it should be very resistant to scratches and damage.

The storage used is UFS 2.0, rather than the eMMC traditionally used. This storage is 87% faster than eMMC, so your bog down when something is being actively written to storage.

The Mi 5 will come in three tiers. The RMB 1999 (about $306 USD) tier will have a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 and 32GB of storage with the glass back, and presumably under 4GB of RAM. The RMB 2299 (about $352 USD) tier will have a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 and 64GB of storage. The RMB 2699 (about $413 USD) tier is the PRO model, with a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and the 3D ceramic back.

The device definitely looks promising. Though the screen is only 1080p HD, the rest of the specs are pretty high end. Plus, the price is fairly low. It’s a shame we probably won’t see this device in the US. What do you guys think of the Xiaomi Mi 5? Leave a comment!

HTC teases the One M10 and the ‘Power of 10′ on Twitter

Now that Samsung’s Galaxy S7 has been unveiled and LG has taken the wraps off the G5, HTC is waiting in the wings to garner some attention for its own upcoming flagship Android smartphone, which is expected to be called the One M10.

Leading up to that announcement, which HTC hasn’t even set a date for just yet, the manufacturer is taking to Twitter to start promoting a hashtag and teasing the upcoming device. In this case, we’ve got a silhouette of what is probably the One M10, but there’s not a lot to go on. It does look pretty sleek, though, for what it’s worth. Of course, it’s just a tease and there’s arguably not a lot to get excited about here, but at least HTC is starting to turn the gears.

The hashtag, “#powerof10″ will probably get bandied about quite a bit leading up to the announcement, and surely HTC has plenty more teases stored up in the days and weeks ahead.

Are you looking forward to seeing what the One M10 offers?

Minecraft major game idea via /r/Minecraft

Minecraft major game idea

I think I'm not alone on having a love/hate relationship with open world games. It stimulates creativity but when I start lacking it too much the game becomes incredibly boring and I end up stop playing for months until I feel like playing again.

Now, what you opened this post for: Minecraft Settlements

I was thinking of giving all first-join players one certain block (let's say bedrock). The players start out in adventure mode and wander around to find a nice spot to build their settlement.

When the players find their paradise, they place the bedrock block which a (set of) command block(s) turns into a small "temple" which serves as their town center, and allows them to build around it in a certain radius. This limitation makes players think carefully about where to start their base, and forces players to trade with each other.

Cool things this means:

  • People need to trade.
  • Stealing/griefing is much harder.
  • People can still build together if their build radius overlapses.

Additional/optional ideas:

  • Allow players to pay the temple one way or another, allowing their build radius to increase.
  • Allow spawn buildable for everyone, to make some kind of hub, a market place for example.

The reason I'm posting this here is hoping that one of you redstone wizards read this and like the idea and manage to code it into a couple of command blocks for us to use. I could probably do it myself but it would cost me my weekend and if someone else could do it for me sooner (and probably better), that would be awesome!

edit: I wrote "major game idea" as opposite to a mini game idea. Not to the idea having a big impact on the game.
