Ejecutivo de LG confirma que no veremos un Nexus fabricado por la compañía este año

LG es históricamente el fabricante que más equipos Nexus de Google ha fabricado. En orden cronológico, tenemos el Nexus 4, Nexus y el recién presentado Nexus 5X del cual ya te compartimos nuestros análisis completo. Y si bien mucha gente esperaba ver este año un nuevo integrante de la familia Nexus fabricado por la surcoreana, ahora sabremos que esto no se hará realidad.

Durante el Mobile World Congress que se lleva a cabo en Barcelona en estos momentos, un ejecutivo de LG declaró que este año la firma no será parte del proyecto Nexus, echando tierra a los sueños de muchos seguidores que esperaban ansiosos un nuevo smartphone de Google fabricado por la casa surcoreana.

De acuerdo con las declaraciones, recogidas por el sitio CNET, LG se baja del vagón de Google debido a que con el lanzamiento del LG G5 es necesario enfocar todos los recursos de la compañía en la fabricación y promoción de su nuevo terminal insignia, y de esa manera lograr un mayor impacto en el mercado, logrando más ventas y, por supuesto, más ganancias.

A pesar de esto, LG dice estar “completamente feliz” con la relación que tiene con Google y agradece la confianza que la gran compañía ha depositado en la compañía no solo una, sino tres veces. Sin embargo, la firma surcoreana señala que es hora de centrar todos sus esfuerzos en sus propios dispositivos.

Entonces, ¿en manos de quién queda la fabricación del nuevo Nexus?

Estas declaraciones no hacen sino potenciar los rumores de que HTC sería el encargado de fabricar no uno, sino dos terminales Nexus este año, volviendo la familia Nexus a sus orígenes en conjunto con el fabricante taiwanés. De resultar esto verdadero, ¿les agrada la idea de nuevos HTC Nexus? ¿cómo les gustaría que fueran estos nuevos dispositivos?

Definitivamente sería un buen empujón para HTC, ya que a pesar de que el HTC One M10 es uno de los terminales más esperados del año, las expectativas no están muy altas debido a los problemas financieros que la compañía sufre en estos momentos. Ya veremos qué pasa.

The OnePlus 3 is launching at the end of Q2 with a ‘new design’

We’re hot off the heels of flagship announcements at Mobile World Congress, but it’s already time for rumors and reports to come in about the next flagships. This latest one is an official report, rather than just a rumor. In an interview with CNET, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei broke the news that the OnePlus 3 is set to launch “at the end of the second quarter.”

In addition to the phone coming before the end of June, Pei also mentioned that the OnePlus 3 will feature a “new design” that will “captivate”. The OnePlus 2 followed much of the same design language as its predecessor, not wanting to step outside of the comfort zone that the company had created with the OnePlus One. Unfortunately, the lack of risk-taking with the OnePlus 2 led to disappointment among some users and reviewers.

With the OnePlus 3, the company hopes to spark that same magic that it did with the OnePlus One, tapping into a large user base that’s tired of the traditional smartphone manufacturers. Utilizing a new design will aid in that endeavor, as it shows that the company is still willing to take risks to attract users.

OnePlus will also continue to evolve its marketing and selling strategies. This year, the company will begin to utilize traditional media for the first time, rather than relying solely on its invite-only system that built hype through exclusivity and word-of-mouth. Additionally, the company is also planning to accept payments directly through customer’s credit cards, rather than only accepting payment through PayPal, as it has in the past.

LG skipping new Nexus device to focus on its own brand

The Nexus 5X is a great device (though a bit overshadowed by the more expensive Nexus 6P at launch), but it seems LG wants to take a break from making Nexus devices to focus on its own brand. We heard similar news two years ago, halfway through the two-year gap between the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 5X.

With the LG G5 officially announced, LG wants to use its resources to promote the new device and other upcoming hardware instead of diverting resources to a Nexus device that does very little for them. We don’t know how well the Nexus 5X has sold, and it’s said manufacturers don’t earn much from Nexus sales. Plus, the brand gets less recognition for a Nexus device than its own.

The G5 seems like a genuinely good competitor to the Galaxy S7, including interesting features that may actually attract more buyers than the previous LG flagships. It makes sense for LG to use its time to push the G5 and further the brand and the company. We may see another LG Nexus device next year, if previous patterns hold up. Thankfully, LG says it is “totally happy” with its relationship with Google’s Nexus program.
