If Minecraft had a Labor Market: Hiring Villagers or Working For Them

tl;dr — Be a miner, fisher, rancher, or farmer; or, hire someone else to be one for you, and then become a railroad tycoon.

I apologize if the following idea already exists in some type of mod–I don't know much about Minecraft modding, although I think it's cool–but I've thought recently about what it would be like if vanilla Minecraft had a labor market / employment system.

For example, while sometimes gathering resources is fun and relaxing, it can get quite tedious if one wants to build something really impressive in Survival mode. What if we could hire villagers or other players to mine, fish, ranch, or farm for us, paying them in emeralds a piecemeal wage?

Surplus resources could be sold to other villagers or players to gain more emeralds, or, instead of being the employer, you could be the employee, working as a farmer, fisher, rancher, or miner for a villager or other player. Then you could buy resources you need (or buy rare items from shops) by selling those you don't.

Or, if you prefer, you can continue gathering resources by yourself, as you do now (the amount of resources gained by doing it yourself versus using the labor market would be comparable, so that it wouldn't incentivize one over the other but merely provide a change of pace / a way to mix things up).

This would open up all sorts of potential socioeconomic dynamics, as it would make villages more central to the game, creating possibilities like railroad tycoons who can connect places of residence (villages) with places of work (farms, mines, ranches, etc.), and railroad owners could charge fees for commuter and commercial transportation.

Huawei Honor 6 gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

The Huawei Honor 6 is now being updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Users in India are reporting receiving the OTA update, which weighs in around 700MB, which updates the build number to H60-L04C675B810 and the OS to the newest major release of Android.

Spotify se alía con Google para mejorar su infraestructura

Buenas noticias para los usuarios de Spotify, pues según un comunicado oficial publicado en su blog, la compañía de streaming musical más conocida y utilizada en el mundo ha anunciado su alianza con la plataforma Google Cloud para poder mejorar su infraestructura de datos.

Con esta medida, Spotify intentará mejorar sus servicios, gracias a que utilizará los servidores de Google, y permitirá a la compañía crecer más rápido que si utilizase sus propios centros de datos, además de reducir los gastos y el mantenimiento que conlleva desarrollar sus propios servidores, lo que significará una mayor capacidad de desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías e innovaciones.

¿Cómo afectará esta medida a los usuarios?

En un principio, los usuarios de Spotify no deberíamos notar ningún cambio aún en cuanto al rendimiento del servicio por el uso de esta nueva plataforma, pues según indican en el informe, la nueva medida ya se ha probado en alrededor de 20.000 personas, las cuales no han reportado ningún tipo de error o problema.

“Históricamente nos hemos quedado nuestros propios centros de datos. Lo que significaba tener que utilizar nuestro espacio, hardware y compra de equipos, pero ahora estamos haciendo un gran esfuerzo para asociarnos con Google sobre cómo ejecutar el back-end de Spotify en la plataforma en la nube de Google.” Nicholas Harteau, vicepresidente de ingeniería e infraestructura en Spotify.

Según informan, gracias a esta nueva medida, que se llevará a cabo en los próximos dos años, permitirá a los usuarios de Spotify realizar consultas mucho más complejas, y ser resueltas de una manera más efectiva y rápida gracias a la nueva plataforma de Google, y gracias a ello, incorporar características más inteligentes.

Como ya hemos indicado, este traslado de plataforma se completará en los próximos dos años, por lo tanto debemos esperar para poder ver nuevas características en las aplicaciones de Spotify, como la inclusión de la capacidad de reproducir vídeos que ya se anunció hace un tiempo. Y quién sabe, quizá gracias al ahorro que supondrá para Spotify suprimir el mantenimiento de sus propios servidores, se podría traducir en una bajada en los precios de sus servicios.
