How Will Decline In PC & Laptop Sales Impact Seagate’s Total HDD Shipments By 2019?

Hard drive manufacturers Seagate and Western Digital enjoy a near-duopoly in the hard drive business, with a combined share of over 85% of the market. Correspondingly, the growth/decline in hard drive shipments for desktops and laptops by both Seagate and Western Digital are closely related to global desktop and laptop sales.

Priceline Tops Analyst Estimates In The Fourth Quarter And Is Gearing Up For Further Growth

Priceline released its Q4 2015 earnings on February 17th. The company’s performance topped the expectation of Wall Street analysts. Post Expedia’s impressive performance in Q4 2015, we were curious to find how Priceline had fared, and it turns out that Priceline did not disappoint! What is significant is that Priceline is much more vulnerable to international currency headwinds given that almost 90% of its gross bookings come from outside the U.S. For fiscal year 2015, Priceline’s customers reserved 432 million room nights through its platform, over double the number of that booked through its closest rival, Expedia, (203 million) in the same period. According to Priceline’s management, the business was organically grown by 25%, around 3 percentage points short of the growth rate of 2014. Also, Priceline was the more profitable company between the two in the fourth quarter. While Priceline and Expedia earned revenues to the tune of $2 billion and $1.7 billion respectively, there was a big difference in their adjusted EBITDA where Priceline delivered $790 million as compared to Expedia’s $280 million (Expedia’s adjusted EBITDA got dampened to the tune of $39 million on account of its huge number of investments in Q4).  In this article we discuss the main drivers of Priceline’s growth in the fourth quarter which is going to steer the company ahead in the long term.

Sony teases its MWC 2016 event with a teaser video

Sony has outed a teaser regarding its upcoming Mobile World Congress 2016 event. Sadly, the video doesn’t reveal much more than the date of the event, which we already knew. Nevertheless, make sure you check out the cool math induced teaser below.

Other than that, there’s little information what the company will be showcasing – this year the Sony leaks have been nowhere near intensive as the ones concerning the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7. Perhaps that means a flagship device won’t be announced and instead, the company would only refresh the mid-range and wearable line-ups.

Stay tuned, as we’ll be covering everything happening from the Mobile World Congress 2016 showroom floors.

ZTE’s tease suggests a phone announcement at MWC 2016

It appears the Chinese manufacturer won’t be coming empty-handed to the Barcelona venue. The latest official ZTE teaser clearly hints at a handset announcement, which does fall in line with traditions from previous years. In 2015, the ZTE Grand S3 saw the light of day, back in 2013, it was the ZTE Grand Memo and a year before that – a total of 8 phones were unveiled at the venue, so the traditions are strong.

ZTE already officially announced its presentation will take place on February 21, which puts it amid a very tough crowd to say the least, as both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 will be unveiled on the same day. Still, ZTE does seem to have at least a couple of interesting handsets in the works, like the ZTE Nubia Z11 and the Nubia X8. It might actually be a little too early for the former, but the X8 is definitely a possibility. According to rumors, it is said to be a big phablet with a large 6.44-inch display and powered by the powerful Snapdragon 820 SoC with a 4500 mAh battery on board.

ZTE Nubia X8

Sadly, the teaser itself doesn’t reveal any information and simply shows a silhouette of a handset, so it could be anything really, across the Nubia or the Axon range. There is also always the possibility for an old device to receive an international announcement, but hopefully that won’t be the…
