Sí, es una realidad, los Samsung Galaxy S6 y S6 edge han recibido por fin Android 6.0 Marshmallow, y decimos “por fin” ya que los S6 salieron a la venta más o menos un año atrás, y no hace falta comentar que estamos hablando de los “topes de gama” de Samsung del anterior 2015, al menos, hasta que no se presente el S7 este domingo.
En efecto, Samsung ha tardado un año en actualizar su buque insignia a la última versión de Android, disponible desde octubre de 2015. De hecho, Samsung ha sido demanda recientemente por esa carencia de actualizaciones y falta de soporte en casi todos sus dispositivos, concretamente, tiene aproximadamente un 82% de sus terminales sin actualizar.
Después del lento despliegue de su actualización, ya puedes tener tu S6 actualizado a la última versión de Android. La pregunta es, ¿y ahora qué? pues es Samsung quién viene al rescate, tras publicar hoy mismo la lista de novedades que trae Marshmallow a sus “mimados” S6.
Empezamos por su navegador, Samsung Internet 4.0, el cual ofrece ahora más velocidad que nunca y más privacidad, a parte de las populares API’s para el desarrollo de aplicaciones “bloqueadoras” de publicidad. De hecho, se estima que su navegador pronto estará disponible para todo el mundo en la Play Store. De momento, solo dispositivos Samsung:

La segunda utilidad presentada es Cross App, que permite acceder a tus aplicaciones más útiles y más usadas mientras estás en alguna aplicación de mensajería, como WhatsApp, Telegram o Hangouts. De esta forma, mientras escribes mensajes podrás acceder a tus fotografías o vídeos y mandarlas a con quién estés hablando, siempre sin salir de dicha aplicación de mensajería. Lo mismo ocurre con la cámara:
Siguiendo con su navegador, Samsung ahora integra en sus dispositivos el Secret Mode, que permite proteger tu dispositivo de tu historial o favoritos mientras le dejas el dispositivo a un amigo, los cuales no podrán acceder a tu información sin tu huella o contraseña. De esta forma y de la mano de Samsung Secure Web Auto Login, Samsung da un paso adelante respecto a la privacidad en sus Galaxy.
Por otra parte, Samsung aprovecha y añade soporte para sus dispositivos con Android 6.0 Marshmallow a su Samsung Gear VR, es decir, sus gafas de realidad virtual, con las que según Samsung disfrutarás de un modo inmersivo único y una experiencia de realidad virtual como nunca. Para terminar con su navegador, Samsung añade la mejorada implementación de HTML5 y asegura una mejor experiencia de navegación cuando sufrimos una mala conexión por el motivo que sea, gracias también a nuevas API’s integradas. Y por último, Samsung remata la actualización a Marshmallow con funciones más secundarias, que son las siguientes:
Dos nuevos modos de su ahorro de energía con el Doze mode
App Standby Mode, qué detecta cuando una aplicación está en estado inactivo
En el audio, Marshamallow añade soporte para el protocolo MIDI, que permite a los usuarios recuperar una lista de todos los dispositivos de audio conectados al sistema
Por último, ahora al reproducir un vídeo serás capaz de ajustar a tu gusto la velocidad del audio.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) has been given the OK by the FCC (after it was certified by the Bluetooth SIG). This certification puts the battery capacity at 3,300mAh – a nice 300mAh bump from the original (and it also disproves the 4,300mAh claim).
The phone has been benchmarked a couple of times, both in Snapdragon and Exynos flavors. The Exynos model will be the new 7870 Octa, based on Cortex-A53 and Mali-T830 and built on 14nm.
The Snapdragon model is less clear – GFX Bench detected Snapdragon 615 (same as the original model), but kernel patches suggested a newer Snapdragon 650 (with Cortex-A72 cores), a better match for the Exynos.
Even the amount of RAM is unclear – it goes from double (3GB) to a bit more (2GB), compared to the original J7.
Anyway, it’s pretty certain that the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) will increase the Super AMOLED resolution to 1080p and you’ll get a 13MP/1080p camera. Note that the device the FCC tested, SM-J7109, is a dual-SIM model headed for China.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2016) came into our office for a review, but we’ll marvel at its 6″ Super AMOLED screen later. For now, let’s look at the chipset – it’s our first encounter with the Snapdragon 652.
It’s a mid-range chipset, but it’s Qualcomm’s first (and among the first in general) to feature Cortex-A72, the successor to A57. It has four of them, plus four A53s. Basically, it’s like the Snapdragon 810, but the big cores are next generation.
The GPU is Qualcomm’s 5th series, an Adreno 510, which promises up to 40% speed increase and up to 40% power saving compared to the Adreno 430. It also supports the new Vulkan API, which is a low-level, low-overhead interface between 3D games and the hardware.
That’s assuming equal build and it’s also the only place where the S652 truly shows it’s mid-range character. It was built on a 28nm process (used since at least the Snapdragon 600 in 2013). That’s compared to 20nm for Snapdragon 8xx and 14nm for the latest chipsets, including another 6-series entry, the 625.
The manufacturing process is important for efficiency – more nanometers mean more power is used. This limits the clock speed that can be achieved with no cooling (like on a phone).
Compared to the Kirin 950 used in the Huawei Mate 8, which also uses 4x A72 + 4x A53, the clock speeds are a good 0.5GHz lower. We’ll see the impact this has on performance.
We kick things off with AnTuTu 6, a full-system benchmark. The Galaxy A9 (2016) trounces the A5 (2016) even though they are part of the same lineup. It also comes withing a hair’s breadth of the S808-powered LG V10, a recent flagship. The Mate 8, Nexus 6P and Note5 have a significant lead, though.

Let’s investigate closer. The single-core performance of the A72 cores should be 20%-60% faster than an A57 clock for clock. That’s the key though, the flagship chipsets are clocked high enough to offset this.

Still, when all eight cores are engaged, the Galaxy A9 (2016) pulls ahead of the S810-based Nexus 6P. It comes close to the Galaxy Note5 too.

Finally, the GPU. Adreno 510 is the base for the 5xx series, but even it should be competitive with the 4xx generation. Apparently not as fast as the Adreno 430 (probably due to clock speed reasons again), but it’s as fast as the Adreno 418. It even matched the Mali-T880 in the Huawei, but that one is low on cores, just 4 (the Note5 has 8 T760 cores).

Google Fotos parece que se ha llevado por delante a todas esas apps de galería de imágenes y a los servicios de almacenamiento en la nube que permiten la carga de todas nuestras imágenes. Posiblemente que sea así y Google ha sido capaz de aunar en un mismo servicio las necesidades de varios tipos de usuarios para no necesitar nada más. Lo que puede ocurrir es que haya ciertos usuarios que busquen algo más que ese espacio ilimitado de imágenes en resolución HD. Digo algo más, si uno quisiera subir todas sus imágenes en la resolución completa tal como son tomadas desde la cámara de su teléfono, ya que, si uno usa Google Fotos para realizar esto mismo, será vital que tenga un gran espacio en su nube, normalmente algo limitado si no pasamos por caja.
Por esto mismo llega Everalbum con una característica muy destacable y esta es la capacidad ilimitada de carga de fotografías en su resolución completa si uno accede a su cuota mensual u opción gratuita si están comprimidas. De esta forma uno podrá olvidarse si sube miles y miles de fotos, ya que al pagar los 8,02€ al mes que cuesta, tendrá espacio ilimitado. Esta aplicación y servicio llega en un momento muy oportuno, ya que la calidad de las fotografías que solemos tomar con nuestro teléfono se está elevando a cotas antes no pensadas. Esto significa que cada vez necesitamos más espacio en la memoria interna a la vez que algún servicio que nos permita subirlas para tener una copia de seguridad de las mismas. Es por esto que Everalbum puede ser la solución perfecta para este problema del primer mundo.
Google Fotos destaca por diversas cualidades en su interfaz, algoritmo de escaneo de imágenes y demás conjunto de variedades que la ha permitido crecer de forma exponencial desde que fuera presentada hace menos de un año en Google I/O 2015. Pero su mayor cualidad es ofrecer espacio ilimitado en la nube a aquellas imágenes en resolución HD.
Everalbum también ofrece esto mismo en su versión gratuita, espacio ilimitado para imágenes comprimidas. Según vayas tomando las fotografías, estas serán cargadas automáticamente en la nube. También puedes elegir que Everalbum vaya limpiando el espacio que tengas en tu teléfono según se vayan pasando las fotos tomadas a la nube, por lo que podrás obtener espacio siempre de sobra sin tener que preocuparte por ello mientras tengas conexión Wi-Fi para la carga de todas esas capturas tomadas con la cámara.
Aparte de esa opción gratuita, la cualidad que realmente la diferencia de otras apps o servicios es la carga ilimitada de fotos en su máxima resolución por un coste de 8,02 euros al mes o cuota anual. Por lo que, si la fotografía es lo tuyo y estas cada dos por tres borrando fotos de tu almacenamiento en la nube de Drive o del interno de tu teléfono, seguramente que Everalbum sea la respuesta perfecta por un coste que no pasa de los ocho euros al mes.
Everalbum proviene de iOS para desembarcar en Android con las cosas muy claras y para colocarse como una opción real a Google Fotos. No lo va a tener fácil debido al espectacular ascenso de la app de Google, pero debido a que ofrece espacio ilimitado para fotografías a resolución completa, seguramente que sean muchos los usuarios que caigan en sus redes.
Una muy interesante llegada para adentrarse en el difícil mercado de apps de galería de imágenes y salvaguardado de las mismas en la nube donde parece que solamente existe Google Fotos. Como siempre, el poder elegir entre distintas alternativas nos sirve para obtener una mejor experiencia, al igual que pondrá en la tesitura a Google para mejorar su app y ofrecer mejores oportunidades a los millones de usuarios que se han decidido por su app.
