Twitter intros algorithmic ‘best tweets first’ timeline option

Ever since it launched many years ago, the timeline you see on Twitter has been all about the reverse chronological order – you get the newest tweets at the top. This is set to change, however, following many rumors on the matter.

In the past Twitter brought you the “While you were away…” section, which was the first thing to ignore the reverse chronological order of tweets. And now the social network is taking that to the next level with the “show me the best tweets first” option.

This is rolling out “in the coming weeks”. You’ll be able to toggle it on and off through a dedicated item in Settings. When it’s on, you’ll see “the Tweets you’re most likely to care about” at the top of your timeline after you’ve been away for a while. These will be “recent” and in reverse chronological order themselves – they just won’t be the latest tweets. To get to those, you scroll down past the “best tweets” section, or just pull-to-refresh at any time.

El Samsung Galaxy S7 estaría disponible en color dorado y plateado

Volvemos con más noticias sobre el Samsung Galaxy S7, y es que a pesar de que su próxima presentación en el Mobile World Congress de Barcelona se encuentra a la vuelta de la esquina, no creemos que con todos los datos y filtraciones que poseemos del nuevo buque insignia la compañía sea capaz de sorprendernos demasiado.

Conocemos ya muchas cosas sobre el nuevo terminal de Samsung, como por ejemplo la gran autonomía que podría poseer su batería. En otras ocasiones nos hemos centrado más en la potencia de su procesador, algo que desde la compañía quisieron arreglar tras el debacle que sufrieron con su predecesor. Hoy en cambio y gracias a unas imágenes filtradas nos hemos enterado de algo más sobre el diseño del futurible terminal.

Los colores del Samsung Galaxy S7

Ya sabemos que en cuanto a diseño el nuevo Samsung no va a sufrir grandes cambios en comparación al S6 o S6 Edge. Lo cierto es que en cuanto a grosor y a aspecto, salvo algunos cambios, van a parecer a simple vista prácticamente iguales. Algunas de las pequeñas modificaciones más resultonas es el hecho de que se elimine el pequeño saliente de la cámara trasera para volver al modelo de la tapa trasera completamente plana.

Pero lo que en realidad nos trae hoy a sacar una nueva noticia (y filtración) sobre el próximo buque insignia de la compañía, son unas imágenes filtradas del dispositivo que hemos encontrado en 9to5Google y en las que se aprecia que estarán realmente disponibles en color dorado y plateado. Es posible que no sea una verdadera sorpresa para muchos de los que ya le tengáis echado el ojo al dispositivo, pero de esta forma se terminan de aclarar más aspectos sobre este smartphone.

Recordemos que ayer mismo hablábamos sobre las nuevas filtraciones de la batería, la cual pasaba a tener una mayor cantidad de capacidad de lo que en noticias anteriores nos habíamos esperado. También comentábamos en otras ocasiones cómo pretende Samsung lograr una mayor autonomía, aparte de con una mayor capacidad, haciendo uso del ahora conocido Always On Display.

En conclusión, son muchas las noticias y filtraciones que rodean a este terminal durante las últimas semanas, pero ahora cabrá esperar al día 21 de Febrero para saber si realmente todo lo que estamos hablando se traduce en una realidad. ¿Cómo creéis que aún os podría sorprender Samsung con el nuevo S7?

LG G5 visits Geekbench packing Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM

LG is all set to announce the G5 at a special event at MWC on February 21. And while we wait for that to happen, the Korean company is teasing us about the handset’s features. Behind the scenes, however, LG is also extensively testing its newest creation, as you’d imagine.

In fact, someone with a G5 prototype has run Geekbench on the thing, and that has resulted in a couple of its specs getting confirmed, along with the fact that it runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The information gathered by the benchmark says the G5 sports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset along with 4GB of RAM.

None of those are surprising, of course, as the presence of both should be par for the course in a flagship Android device in 2016. The phone that was tested here is the LG F700S. That “S” means it’s meant for SK Telecom, one of the three carriers in South Korea.

The model number, F700, strongly implies this is the G5 we’re seeing here. That’s because for its home market LG has used F600 to describe the V10, while the G4 had the model number F500. So by that logic, the next high-end smartphone from LG is the F700. Which will be known commercially as the G5.

The LG G5 may arrive with a modular design of sorts, its volume buttons on one side (not the back), a 20 MP rear camera, an 8 MP selfie shooter, and a 5.6-inch QHD touchscreen, previous leaks have said.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7, S7 edge glimpsed in gold and gray

Samsung is planning on showing off its next smartphones on February 21, but because the Internet exists, so we’re already seeing what those devices will probably look like long before Samsung gets around to stepping on a stage and making its announcement.

The cycle continues with new glimpses of what we should expect to see later this month. First, from Pisapapeles, showing off what is believed to be a dummy unit for the Galaxy S7. The image isn’t the clearest, but it does seem to show off a gold-hued Galaxy S7. We can see a slightly redesigned home button on the front, but the angle of the image doesn’t help us discern if that camera hump on the back is reduced at all.

Second, a new image promoted by Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, that shows a render of a gray Galaxy S7 edge. It’s the same color, it would seem, that Samsung debuted with the Galaxy Note 5 in South Korea last year, called Silver Titanium. Apparently it must have been a hit, because it appears Samsung is bringing the shade back.

Twitter launches algorithmic timeline, disabled by default

This past week had the Internet buzzing about reports that Twitter would be ditching its classic chronological timeline and instead opting for a new timeline powered by algorithms that would order tweets based on what the algorithm thinks you’re most interested in. Some were cautiously curious about the idea, but most were in a frenzy, shocked that Twitter would change such a core part of its design.

Today, the new algorithmic timeline has arrived, but in a much less aggressive fashion than most assumed. The new timeline feature will indeed place the most important tweets at the top of your feed in reverse chronological order, but only if you’ve been away from Twitter for a while. Below this selection of tweets, all of the other tweets will still appear in reverse chronological order, per usual. To instantly see the most recent tweets, users need only pull-to-refresh.

Twitter is also disabling the feature by default, meaning that users who are interested in using it will need to go into settings and flip the switch labeled, “Show me the best Tweets first”.

Twitter’s new feature doesn’t sound all too different from its existing “While you were away” feature. This section of tweets appears if you haven’t used Twitter in a while, showing you highlights from the people you follow that were sent out since you last used Twitter. In essence, the new algorithmic timeline is essentially the same feature.

Flyperlink es un explorador web bien rápido a lo Link Bubble

Link Bubble de Chris Lacy supuso una gran incursión para un explorador web que destaca por esas burbujas flotantes que nos permiten pasar a otra tarea mientras en segundo plano se va cargando la web que acabamos de lanzar desde un enlace url encontrado en Facebook u otra app. En el momento que esté cargado ese enlace web podemos pulsar sobre la burbuja para que aparezca la web totalmente cargada, lo que supone, a final de cuentas, aprovechar todo el tiempo que dispongamos sin tener que estar mirando como se va cargando, tal como pasa con otros exploradores. Esta gran idea creada por Lacy ha ocasionado que sean más los desarrolladores que hayan seguido su estela como pasa con Flynx, otra gran aplicación al estilo de Link Bubble.

Otra que ha llegado hace bien poco es Flyperlink y más o menos se inspira en la idea original de Link Bubble para traernos un explorador web ligero que está especialmente optimizado para la multitarea en dispositivos móviles. Una app que funciona en segundo plano mientras carga la web requerida para que cuando queramos traerla a primer plano pulsemos sobre el acceso directo. La idea en si no es que sea original de Link Bubble, ya que estas burbujas flotantes también las tenemos en Facebook Messenger, aunque el que le dio una vuelta de tuerca fue Chris Lacy con la recién vendida a otro grupo y que es la base para todas estas, tal como nos toca con Flyperlink en esta entrada.

Cargando en segundo plano

Fliperlink funciona como esas burbujas flotantes que se encuentran disponibles por siempre en la pantalla, ya esté minimizada o maximizada, hasta que uno mantiene una pulsación prolongada para realizar un swipe para eliminarlas.

Flyperlink se encontrará en segundo plano hasta que pulsemos sobre un enlace URL mismamente en Telegram. Android nos solicitará que seleccionemos que aplicación queremos utilizar para abrir ese enlace, ya sea Chrome, Flyperlink u otro explorador web que tengamos instalado. Seleccionamos Flyperlink y aparecerá una burbuja flotante de las mencionadas que podremos mover libremente por la pantalla para ubicarla en una posición donde no nos estorbe mucho.

Un navegador con opciones

Aparte de lo que es su funcionalidad principal para la multitarea, Flyperlink tiene una buena lista de características bien destacables. La característica de lanzar enlaces web te permite también lanzar un explorador web flotante que mostrará todo su contenido. También podrás usar el botón de compartir de otras apps para abrir ese contenido dentro de ese explorador flotante.

Con el botón de minimizar, se puede mover la burbuja flotante o usar las teclas de navegación para cerrar el contenido que se esté viendo mientras se mantiene minimizado dentro de la burbuja. Otra de sus opciones es la capacidad para poder mostrar el contenido en la pantalla de bloqueo si así lo desea uno.

Flyperlink

Entre sus opciones básicas se encuentra la selección de texto que te permite elegir todo de una tacada y el modo escritorio visto en otros exploradores como si estuviéramos desde un escritorio explorando el sitio web.

Flyperlink es un explorador web que se encuentra de forma gratuita desde la Play Store con esos micropagos para poder ayudar al desarrollador a que siga trabajando en esta interesante app que se inspira en otras como Link Bubble. Una aplicación bien nueva que esperamos que el creador vaya optimizándola, ya que desde el feedback que recogen varios usuarios está teniendo algunos problemas, aunque la idea en si funciona bastante bien y es una buena alternativa para todos exploradores web que han encontrado en las burbujas flotantes la mejor forma de presentar la multitarea en Android.

Tienes otra opción en Tangram, que sigue lo estipulado por todas estas apps y que también consigue un gran trabajo para cargar en segundo plano todas los sitios web que quieras. De forma gratuita en la Play Store, así que no pierdas el tiempo y comprueba cual te viene mejor para tu dispositivo Android.
