Huawei Mate 8 ya a la venta en España a través de Amazon

Huawei ha demostrado a lo largo de este pasado año 2015 que, pese a la gran competencia en China, sigue siendo una de las marcas a tener en cuenta. Han sido varios los teléfonos que han presentado, entre los que destacan el Huawei G7 Plus o el Huawei Mate S. Aunque si hay algo que debamos destacar, esto es la colaboración que han realizado junto a Google para crear el Google Nexus 6P, el último buque insignia de la familia Nexus y que se presentó hace escasos tres meses.

Junto a los anteriormente mencionados, también se presentó en noviembre el Huawei Mate 8. Este gran phablet viene a sustituir el exitoso Huawei Mate 7 presentado en 2014 e incluye unas características realmente excelentes, entre las que destaca la continua apuesta por los procesadores Kirin, fabricados por la propia Huawei. Y no estamos hablando precisamente de principiantes en el tema, puesto que en unas pruebas que salieron a la luz poco antes de presentarse el teléfono, en Antutu obtenía la mejor de las valoraciones, superando la hegemonía de Samsung en la clasificación.

Como podemos leer en El androide libre y pese a que Huawei aún no lo tiene en su página web, ya es posible adquirir las diferentes versiones del teléfono desde Amazon. Así, la versión negra de 32 GB y 3 GB de RAM la encontramos por 548,88 euros. La versión dorada de 64 GB y 3 GB de RAM nos saldría por 680,99 euros. Mientras que la versión dorada de 128 GB y 4 GB de memoria RAM ascendería hasta los 776,99 euros.

Sin lugar a dudas son unos precios muy elevados si tenemos en cuenta la competencia actual, pero hay que tener en cuenta que estamos hablando de un teléfono que cuenta con unas especificaciones tope de gama que se pueden resumir en una pantalla de 6 pulgadas con resolución FullHD, un procesador Kirin 950 de ocho núcleos a 1,8 GHz, 3 o 4 GB memoria RAM según la versión que elijamos, cámaras de 16 y 8 megapíxeles, 4.000 mAh de batería y toda la conectividad que cabría esperar. Todo esto, además, funcionando bajo la última versión de Android, la 6.0 Marshmallow.

Sin lugar a dudas es una apuesta muy fuerte por parte de Huawei y llega con un precio bastante alto para lo que nos tiene acostumbrados la compañía. De todas formas es muy posible que, una vez presentado oficialmente en nuestro país, el precio se rebaje un poco y pueda competir mejor con los teléfonos de su gama.

Analogix introduces an updated NANO CONSOLE dock with SlimPort video output through HDMI

Well, here is the new SlimPort NANO CONSOLE USB-C for Mobile Devices with USB Type-C Connectors from Analogix, along with a photo and there is no denying that it looks pretty. But, if that cryptic title left you a little lost as to what exactly this small red and white box does, then here is the short story.

The device is essentially intended to act as dock for your portable device and output video from it through an HDMI port, while also providing an USB input for peripherals (most-likely a keyboard and mouse). The detachable top part is simply a Bluetooth remote that can have some convenient uses in multimedia consumption.

If this sounds terribly familiar to Microsoft’s Continuum, it is (minus the dedicated Windows 10 desktop UI, that is). In fact, from a technical standpoint, the device is similar to an MHL dock or cable, for example, like the one offered by Samsung and achieves the same end goal, only not thorough MHL, but rather the alternative SlimPort technology.

SlimPort is most-notably supported by Nexus devices, dating back to the Nexus 4 and a lot of LG phones as an alternative to having MHL, so if you own one of the model, listed on the slimportconnect website, then this is your solution to outputting video, along with a USB input or at least one of Analogix’s products is.

Unlike previous accessories, the new NANO CONSOLE utilizes a USB-Type C connector, instead of a micro-USB, which is supposedly futureproof. This means that it is compatible with USB-Type C devices that have SlimPort, which by our best estimate, currently includes only the latest Nesux pair.

Like MHL, SlimPort offers support for video output up to 4K at 30 frames, with MHL advancing further to include 7.1 surround sound and DHCP 2.2 content protection in its 3.0 speck. SlimPort, on the other hand, seems to be more versatile by design – as an implementation of the Mobility DisplayPort standard, it can actually output to Display Port devices, HDMI, DVI and VGA (up to 720p). But, we already drifted way too much into the technical details. Back to the point.

The SlimPort NANO CONSOLE USB-C will start shipping in Q2 2016 and there is no word yet on pricing. So, if you were wondering about a video out solution for your new Nexus, be sure to keep Analogix in mind.

Watch Sony’s CES press event this afternoon at 5PM PT

Besides a new lineup of 4K TVs with Google’s built-in Android TV experience, we’re not expecting any real Android news from Sony at CES this year. Sony has announced quite a few Xperia phones, smartwatches and activity trackers at CES over the years, but the rumor mill has been quieter than usual this time around. There’s still a chance that Sony could wow us with an announcement out of left field, but it’s highly doubtful.

Acer’s Iconia One 8 is a dirt cheap tablet for families

What the Acer Iconia One 8 lacks in specs, it makes up for in price.

Announced today at CES 2016, the Acer Iconia One 8 is an 8-inch tablet featuring a MediaTek quad-core processor, a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, 1GB DDR3L RAM, 16GB internal storage and a storage expansion slot which supports up to 128GB Micro SD cards. It comes with Android 5.1 and a handful of software tweaks and apps for families.

The kicker? It’s just $99. While it’s certainly not the best tablet money can buy, the price does make it an attractive option for those looking at something the family can use and most likely abuse. The Acer Iconia One 8 launches this February.
