Honor 5X up for pre-order on Amazon and Newegg
If your interest was piqued by the aggressively priced mid-range competitor the Honor 5X yesterday, then you will be glad to hear that you can already place your pre-order on either Amazon or Newegg. Both sites have all three colors for $199 with an expected ship date of January 31st.
While it is unquestionably a mid-range device, the Honor 5X does offer a number of features that to date have been reserved for higher end devices. Two of the big highlights are the all-metal construction as well as the fingerprint scanner on the back. A 5.5-inch screen isn’t unheard of in this range and it is 1080p rather than the higher resolutions we’ve been seeing lately, but many people are perfectly happy with that resolution.
As for the rest of the internals the camera is a respectable f/2.4 13MP and a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 with 2GB of RAM should be plenty to keep things running smoothly on that 1080p screen.
The Honor 5X is launching with Android 5.1, but a rapid update to Marshmallow is in the works.

Microsoft stops supporting Internet Explorer 8, 9 and 10 next week
Microsoft has officially announced it will cease to support Internet Explorer 8, 9 and 10 from January 12. The company will issue a Windows update KB3123303, which will place a prompt box in the three browsers urging people to update to Internet Explorer 11. This will happen for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 users.
The box can be disabled by enterprise users who don’t want to jump ship by altering the registry. However, switching to Internet Explorer 11 is far the better option in the long run.
The end of life status for the Internet Explorer 7, 8 and 9 means that Microsoft won’t release any more security patches, leaving the browsers vulnerable to potential new threats. This way it hopes users will move on to a more recent version of the browser, hopefully Edge.

Nikon announces D5 and D500 DSLRs, KeyMission 360 action-cam
Nikon announced three new cameras today, one professional grade DSLR, one prosumer DSLR, and one ruggedized 4K action camera.
The Nikon D5 is a FX-format full-frame DSLR. It has a 20.8 megapixel CMOS sensor with a new 153-point AF system with 99 cross-type sensors, 100 to 102,400 ISO range, expandable to ISO 3,280,000, 12fps burst rate with full AE and AF and 14fps with fixed focus and mirror locked up, EXPEED 5 image processor, 4K UHD video, 3.2-inch 2359k dot touchscreen LCD, and option of either dual CF or dual XQD cards. The Nikon D5 is priced at $6,499.95 and will be available in March.

The Nikon D500 is a DX-format DSLR. It has an all-new 20.9 megapixel CMOS sensor an ISO range of 100 to 51,200, expandable to 1,640,000 equivalent, EXPEED 5 image processor, 10fps burst mode with full AF and AE, 153 point AF system, 180K RGB metering system, 4K UHD video, and 3.2-inch 2,359k dot touchscreen LCD. It is priced at $1,999.95 body-only and $3,069.95 with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR lens.

Finally there is the compact Nikon KeyMission 360, Nikon’s first action camera. The camera features an image sensor and a lens on either side, which allows it to capture true 360-degree video in 4K. It is also waterproof up to 30m, as well as dust and shock proof.

The vibration reduction feature helps reduce the camera shake in videos. No price has been announced so far but the camera will be available in Spring 2016 along with a variety of dedicated accessories.

Xiaomi Mi 5, precio y características del primer Xiaomi con el Snapdragon 820
Después de un largo periodo de rumores, filtraciones de renders y hasta una denuncia contra este terminal, el Xiaomi Mi 5 ya es una realidad. El nuevo terminal de la serie “Mi” tiene como antecesores grandes terminales como el Mi 4i o el Xiaomi Mi 4c, los cuales destacaron por su gran relación calidad/precio. De momento, parece que este nuevo smartphone de una de las mejores compañías chinas no va mal encaminado.
Xiaomi Mi 5: cuerpo metálico, Snapdragon 820 y 4 GB de RAM
Uno de los cofundadores de Xiaomi y actualmente su vicepresidente senior, Liwan Jiang, acaba de confirmar mediante una entrada en un blog chino llamado Weibo el primer terminal Xiaomi con el Snapdragon 820. Tras los problemas que trajo el Snapdragon 810, presente en muchos terminales “topes de gama”, Qualcomm espera que este 820 sea el núcleo de más de un flagship killer de este 2016.
El Snapdragon 820 será el encargado de mover una pantalla de 5.2 pulgadas QHD, junto con una RAM de 4 GB coordinados por una batería de 3600 mAh. Aún así, donde más nos ha sorprendido este Xiaomi es en su cámara frontal de 13 megapíxeles, acompañada por una cámara trasera de 16 megapíxeles. Por lo tanto, este nuevo dispositivo será uno más que se una a la tendencia de incorporar muy buenas cámaras frontales para sus amantes de las selfies.
Por fuera, el Mi 5 tendrá un acabado completamente metálico, según apuntan diversas fuentes y renders filtrados. Es muy posible que salga al mercado en dos versiones distintas, una de 32 GB de almacenamiento interno y otra de 64 GB. Ambos integrarán la tecnología de Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, para una carga más rápida de esta batería de 3600 mAh.
Para terminar, Liwan ha comunicado que el Xiaomi Mi 5 será revelado el 8 de febrero de este año, coincidiendo con el Festival de Primavera del calendario chino. Se estima que su precio rondará los 288 euros y 362 euros la versión de 64 GB.
En resumen, parece que este Mi 5 no será el terminal que incorporará Android d’stock tal y como indicaban algunos rumores, pero que sí que parece un “pequeño” monstruo por menos de 400 euros. De la misma forma, también hay que destacar la falta de un slot para tarjetas microSD o la ausencia de Android Marshmallow, aunque seguramente se actualizará a lo largo del 2016.
