Withings Go fitness tracker offers 8 months battery life and an E ink display for $69

Withings continues to charge hard at the wearable market without going head to head with the true smartwatch crowd.

The Withings Go is the latest offering and it takes a decidedly more dressed down approach than the Activité line, but at least in my opinion a more compelling look than the Pulse 02.

That 8 months of battery life is probably going to be the highlight feature of the Go for those that can’t stomach the idea of another gadget to charge. The E Ink screen and of course minimal functionality are responsible for that extended battery life. The Go is simply there to track your sleep and fitness activity and provide the time when called upon to do so.

The Go comes with two modules in the box; the first is a clip to attach to your pants, shirt, sports bra or perhaps your shoelaces and the second is a rubber watch style band. The modules come in either black, yellow, red, blue or green.

The Go is also able to be worn while swimming, something most of the more advanced fitness trackers don’t recommend, and will successfully differentiate between activities like swimming, running or walking.

While you can view your daily activity progress on the E Ink display, there is far more data to be had when viewing the Health Mate app.

The Withings Go certainly isn’t going to be for everyone given the stripped down functionality versus a smartwatch, but for those that only really care about fitness tracking and want to just put something on and forget about it the $69 Withings Go will be a compelling package when it launches later this year.

Pair two of Kodak’s new SP360 4K action cams, get VR videos

Kodak’s latest entrant into the action cam space (which is getting busier and busier each year) is the SP360 4K. As the name implies, the small cube-shaped camera has the ability to record in 4K (3,840×2,160) with its 12.4 MP sensor.

But that’s when you use its “front” mode, which comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio. There’s also the “global” setting which brings with it a 1:1 aspect ratio and a shooting resolution of 2,880×2,880. In this mode, it captures an almost spherical image, 360-degrees horizontally and 235-degrees vertically.

Fret not, however, for you can create a fully spherical VR film with the Kodak Pixpro SP360 4K – you just need two of them. If you pair a couple of these, and place them back-to-back, you’ve got your VR footage. Kodak even sells a two-pack, which also includes a dual-camera mount as well as software that stitches everything together after you’re done shooting.

One Kodak SP360 4K currently goes for $499, while the double-pack is priced at $899. Using the camera’s built in Wi-Fi lets you control it with your iPhone or Android device.

Esto es lo que cuesta cada pieza de los OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 y OnePlus X

Si a través de tus años como poseedor de un smartphone o dispositivo tecnológico nunca has roto alguna parte del mismo, es que realmente no le has debido dar mucho uso. Lo peor de que se rompa cualquier parte de un terminal no es la avería en sí, sino el alto precio que normalmente suelen tener los elementos a reemplazar, además de la “mano de obra” que se cobra por el tiempo empleado en la reparación.

Parece que las reglas del juego están cambiando ya que OnePlus está intentando hacer el proceso de reparación lo más transparente posible. Con esta misión en mente, la joven start up china hizo pública para sus clientes en India hace varios días una lista muy completa con todas las piezas de repuesto, junto a su coste, disponibles para su reducida familia de smartphones.

Desafortunadamente, hay muchos precios sorprendentes ya que no son tan asequibles como en un primer momento se hubiera esperado. Como habrás podido adivinar, los repuestos con el coste más elevado son el digitalizador, el panel frontal, la cámara trasera y la placa base, la cual alberga todo tipo de elementos esenciales como el procesador, la memoria y los puertos de carga entre otros.

Precio de algunos componentes

De manera comparativa, tres componentes esenciales como son la pantalla( digitalizador y cristal frontal), la cámara y la placa base cuestan, respectivamente unos 100, 30 y 175 euros. En este caso, ese sería el precio que costaría reemplazarlo en el OnePlus One, por lo que realizar el mismo proceso en el OnePlus 2 es algo más caro, unos 380 euros en total. Afortunadamente, otros componentes más comunes como los botones de volumen o de encendido apagado cuestan algo menos. Obviamente, producir, guardar en stock y más tarde enviar estos elementos por separado es mucho más caro que fabricar y vender el artículo final, con todas las piezas en el interior. No obstante, OnePlus enfatiza el hecho de que está vendiendo todas estas piezas a precios altamente competitivos.

Aún así, este tipo de noticias nos recuerdan que pequeños accidentes como dejar caer el móvil al suelo pueden causar dolores de cabeza intensos y duraderos. Por esta razón, es aconsejable hacerse con un funda protectora de manera que en caso de un incidente estemos más seguros.
