Nexus 5X price drops to $349, matches launch price of Nexus 5

Despite being produced by the same company and even being given a name to denote its heritage, the Nexus 5X hasn’t lived up to its predecessor in the eyes of most Android fans. Naturally, launching in the shadow of its larger and more powerful sibling the Nexus 6P didn’t make things easy for the 5X. While it matches the 6P in a few areas, like camera hardware, it falls short in many others that even the average user can appreciate.

We’ve seen a number of temporary price cuts on the Nexus 5X already, but this $30 price cut to $349 appears to be permanent and should be spreading out to the rest of the retailers in the coming days.

This cut brings the Nexus 5X price down to the launch price of the original Nexus 5, which should quell some complaints. While I personally would still recommend saving up for the 6P, the 5X at $349 is certainly a worthwhile consideration for a developer looking for an inexpensive stock device or a price-conscious consumer that wants to stay updated.

Así sería el primer terminal de Nokia tras la era Microsoft

Se abre una nueva etapa para Nokia, y es que tras haber cedido temporalmente su división de móviles al gigante Microsoft hace unos años, el pasado 31 de diciembre se cumplía el plazo del acuerdo firmado entre las compañías. El contrato acordado entre estos dos colosos del mundo de la tecnología constaba de una cláusula que vetaba a la firma finlandesa de presentar cualquier terminal bajo la marca Nokia, hasta hace poco.

El fin de este contrato ha despertado las esperanzas de muchos seguidores de Nokia, los cuales aguardaban pacientemente la posibilidad de un futuro terminal de la marca. Aunque el retorno de la firma fue cuestionado en numerosas ocasiones, no ha sido hasta las declaraciones oficiales de su CEO, Rajeev Suri, en las que se aseguraba que Nokia regresaría al difícil mundo de los smartphones.

Afortunadamente, la paciencia de los seguidores de Nokia ha sido recompensada, puesto que ha sido filtrada en internet una imagen en la que se aprecia un dispositivo (nunca visto hasta el momento) con el logotipo de la compañía. La fotografía en cuestión tiene como origen Weibo, y no ha venido acompañada de ningún tipo de información adicional, por lo que no se puede validar la autenticidad de la misma.

En cualquier caso, el dispositivo goza de un diseño que tal vez nos recuerde sobremanera a la estética de los últimos Meizu (MX5, M2 Note, etc.). La presencia de lo que parecen ser dos líneas de antenas, en la parte inferior y superior del terminal, denotan una construcción en metal. En cuanto al tamaño, es difícil deducirlo de manera concreta, aunque el dispositivo parece rondar entre las 5 y 5,5 pulgadas.

La parte trasera del supuesto smartphone de Nokia presume de varias líneas de caracteres que hacen probable la posibilidad de que sea un prototipo, lo que otorgaría certeza al hecho de que sea verídico. No obstante, también es posible que sea una imagen antigua perteneciente a un modelo de prueba ya descartado, anterior incluso a la era Microsoft.

Nokia-C1-Rumor

A pesar de todo, si el terminal acaba siendo auténtico, podríamos estar en toda regla ante el rumoreado Nokia C1, del cual se filtraron varios renders hace un tiempo. No obstante, circulan distintos rumores en el mundo de la tecnología que apuntan al posible lanzamiento de tres modelos de la mano de Nokia a lo largo del 2016.

En cualquier caso y por el bien de Nokia, los futuros smartphones de la compañía se deberían alejar en todos los sentidos de los desastrosos Nokia X y XL.

Google adds new options to the Android search bar

Google has been caught experimenting with options for its Android search bar. For some users, new stuff shows up when they tap on the search bar – be that in the search widget on a home screen, using the one in Google Now, or simply when performing a search in the Google app.

The new options that come up when you tap on the search bar are Recent Searches, What’s Hot, and Nearby. It’s pretty obvious what happens when you then tap on Recent Searches – you’ll get a list of those. What’s Hot shows you popular stuff, while tapping Nearby brings you to a list of things you might be searching for, just like in Google Maps.

These are, in one example, Restaurants, Gas Stations, ATMs, and Coffee shops. It’s unclear if these categories will change dynamically (and if so, based on what) or if they’ll be forever fixed.

As always with such Google experiments, the new options aren’t seen by everyone. That will only change if the search giant decides on wide availability for these features.
