Android 5.1-based CyanogenMod 12.1 nightly now available for Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung-made Galaxy Nexus was launched way back in 2011, and officially got updates till Android 4.3 Jelly Bean before Google abandoned it. However, alternative Android OS developer Cyanogen kept the device alive thereafter, releasing a stable Android 4.4-based CyanogenMod 11 ROM for the device in 2013.

Now, the team has released the first Android 5.1-based CM 12.1 nightly build for the Galaxy Nexus, allowing users to enjoy the Android Lollipop experience on the device. The build weighs in at around 250 MB.

What Did Delhi’s Odd-Even Scheme Achieve? Not Much

Delhi government’s odd-even scheme in the first two weeks of January had one purpose–to reduce emissions and pollution. Under the plan, cars with odd-numbered license plates could be driven on odd dates and even-numbered ones on even dates. The idea was to halve (or at least substantially reduce) the number of cars on the streets of the capital, and that, in turn, would reduce the emissions and hopefully, the pollution levels (Delhi wears the notoriety of being the world’s most polluted city.)

CM 12.1 con Lollipop para el Galaxy Nexus

Google junto con Samsung sacaron allá por el año 2011 uno de los mejores Nexus que ha habido en la historia de los smartphones de Google. Este dispositivo innovo en el mercado, siendo de los primeros terminales que no tenía botones físicos en pantalla sino que todo tenía botones táctiles y que fue el primer móvil con Android Ice Cream Sandwich, el primer Android que dio un cambio de diseño a como era en sus inicios.

Es más, tanto fue el exito del Galaxy Nexus que fue un smartphone muy vendido en su tiempo. Hasta ahora, entre los que me incluyo, los usuarios disfrutaban de las últimas actualizaciones del sistema operativo de Google, pero desgraciadamente, los chicos de Mountain View decidieron no dar más soporte a este terminal, por lo que Android 5.1 Lollipop no llegaría nunca.

Sin embargo, la comunidad de desarrolladores es muy grande y le tienen un cariño especial al Galaxy Nexus, es por ello que gracias al grupo de desarrolladores CyanogenMod los usuarios que todavía tengan un Galaxy Nexus podrán disfrutar de una ROM bajo Android 5.1 Lollipop.

La ROM en versión nightly, es una versión para el modelo GSM del conocido smartphone, así que los usuarios que tengan la versión de Verizon, tendrán que esperar a que CyanogenMod adapte la ROM. La versión Verizon se vendió en tierras americanas, así que la mayoría de los consumidores que nos leen, seguramente tengan la versión GSM.

La ROM pesa unos 248 MB, así que siempre es mejor descargar el archivo que contiene la ROM con Wi-Fi. Para instalarla tan sólo hay que seguir los mismos pasos que al instalar otra ROM cualquiera, descargar e instalar también la versión correspondiente a CM 12.1 de las GAPPS de Google, para así poder disfrutar de los servicios de Google y la Play Store. Independientemente de si eres experto en flashear smartphones o no, hay que decir que las versiones Nightly de una ROM no se consideran versiones estables, por lo que puede ser que el terminal no funcione perfectamente.

A todo esto hay que sumar que su hardware es de hace 5 años, por lo que es normal que al instalar una versión de Android que pide más recursos así como la carga de las diferentes aplicaciones no sea la mejor y veamos algún que otro lag entre las transiciones de aplicaciones.  Sea como sea, gracias a los desarrolladores, el Galaxy Nexus revive de nuevo y como dicen: ” Lo viejo nunca muere “.

Samsung’s upcoming SM-R150 activity tracker leaked in images

Back in November last year, there were reports that Samsung is working on an affordable fitness tracker. It was also revealed that the device carries a model number of SM-R150 and an internal codename of Triathlon.

Now, some alleged leaked images of the wearable have surfaced online, revealing that it sports a round display as well as a rotating bezel, making it similar in design to the South Korean company’s Gear S2 smartwach.

The images indicate that the device features a heart-rate sensor, and is also capable of counting exercise repetitions as well as keeping track of water intake.

Finally, it will also be possible to attach the SM-R150 fitness tracker to your chest.

There’s currently no information on the pricing and the availability of the wearable…

On Sunday, SpaceX’s Falcon booster successfully lifted the Jason-3 satellite into orbit from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Following that, the first stage attempted to achieve a landing on the “Just Read the Instructions” barge, which was floating off the California coast, but failed when a landing leg broke.

User agent profile reveals new LG phone; possibly the G5

The HTTP user agent profile of a new LG device has surfaced online, revealing the model number it carries and the OS it runs. As you can see in the screenshot below, the model number of this new handset is LG-H830.

Given the fact that LG’s G4 flagship carried LG-H810, LG-H811, LG-H812, and LG-H815 model numbers, it’s safe to assume that the new smartphone in question is the company’s upcoming G5 flagship smartphone. In addition, the profile also revealed that the device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The LG G5 has already been the subject of several leaks and rumors until now, revealing its possible design and specs. The device is expected to be made official at LG’s pre-MWC press event on February 21, invitations for which have already been sent..
