Dr. Martin Luther King’s holiday juxtaposed with an interesting number that I heard at the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Conference last week inspired this article. While at the conference, results from a survey of the Society’s nearly 14,000 members revealed that only 2.1% of the membership is African American. Other minority numbers were even lower.

HTC is a few hours away from releasing the Android Marshmallow update for the HTC One M9 in Canada, but the company is also prepping the update for the HTC One M8 in the UK later this week. HTC UK announced on Twitter that the One M8 will be getting a taste of Android Marshmallow within the next 48 hours. The update for the One M9 is nearly ready as well, with HTC stating that it will “follow shortly.”
With the UK update on its way, we suspect the One M8 and One M9 in mainland Europe will see the update within the next 5 to 10 days. There’s no guarantee, but it looks like HTC will have Android Marshmallow delivered to most unlocked and carrier-branded versions of the HTC One M8 and One M9 before the end of January.

Huawei es el fabricante asiático que más éxito está teniendo. Actualmente es la empresa que más teléfonos vende en China, aunque Xiaomi le pisa los talones. Y parece que Huawei se prepara para coontratacar, pero en otro mercado.
Y es que nuevos rumores apuntan a que Huawei está trabajando en un ordenador portátil. Sí, llevamos tiempo sabiendo que Xiaomi pondrá a la venta un portátil a lo largo del presente año, y parece que Huawei no se quiere quedar atrás.
Por ahora sabemos más bien poco de este nuevo dispositivo de Huawei, aunque lo único que podemos asegurar es que el nuevo ordenador portátil se Huawei se podrá utilizar como tablet y además vendrá de serie con opción dual boot, pudiendo ejecutar Windows o Android en función de nuestras necesidades.
Si tenemos en cuenta que el ordenador que lanzará Xiaomi al mercado es un ordenador portátil normal y corriente, parece que la guerra será bastante interesante. ¿Cuál de los dos se alzará con la victoria? Habrá que esperar a la presentación de ambos productos para dar con la respuesta.
Lo que sí está claro es que el gran beneficiado vamos a ser nosotros, los usuarios. El hecho de que dos pesos pesados como Huawei y Xiaomi entren en el mercado de los ordenadores portátiles ya es una magnífica noticia de por sí.
Más si tneemos en cuenta que estos fabricantes abogan por una norma muy clara: ofrecer dispositivos con acabados y prestaciones de gama alta a precios de gama media. Y la posibilidad de tener un ordenador portátil por 100 o máximo 200 euros me parece una idea realmente interesante.
Además, si se confirma el rumor que apunta a la posibilidad de que el próximo ordenador portátil de Huawei cuente con dual boot, el hecho de poder alternar entre dos sistemas operativos tan diferentes como son Android y Windows me parece una idea realmente interesante: ¿qué tienes que trabajar con documentos? Nada mejor que Windows y su potente herramienta de ofimática. ¿Quieres jugar al último juego disponible en la tienda de aplicaciones de Google? Pues para eso tan solo tienes que cambiar el sistema de arranque y hacer que el nuevo ordenador portátil de Huawei cargue el sistema operativo del equipo de Mountain View.
Y a vosotros, ¿qué os parece el hecho de que Huawei y Xiaomi hayan decidido adentrarse en el mercado de los ordenadores portátiles? ¿creéis que sus dispositivos tendrán éxito en el mercado, teniendo en cuenta que pesos pesados como Lenovo dominan el sector con puño de hierro?
