Lots of chip companies like ARM Holdings, Intel, NVIDIA and Qualcomm are spending time and effort to find a place for themselves in the IoT market because they, like I, believe in a gigantic, future market. Some companies are focusing on wearables and drones while others are looking to automotive and smart home. Qualcomm previously spent a lot of their effort on repurposing smartphone chipsets for IoT purposes, which in the short term made sense, but in the long term wasn’t really sustainable. Qualcomm saw this challenge and I believe has addressed it with a multitude of new technologies that address almost every major IoT segment. This is partially because Qualcomm is a big enough company, like Intel, that they can focus on multiple verticals at the same time and actually grow businesses out of them. At CES 2016, Qualcomm showed off the products they have designed purpose-built for IoT. These products include a smart home reference platform, an automotive grade Snapdragon 820A, an LTE modem optimized for IoT and a Bluetooth smart SoC for IoT. They also made some announcements around Wi-Fi connectivity and self-organizing networks, which still somewhat ties into IoT.

Facebook has begun testing a redesigned Messenger app for Android that now boasts touches of Material Design, including a useful floating action button and a transparent status bar. Messenger already sports a pretty modern design, and its new look isn’t exactly a big departure from the old one — but it is certainly an improvement that you’ll welcome.

Huawei is allegedly very close to unveiling the Honor Holly 2 Plus smartphone. This is said to see the light of day at a special event scheduled for January 28 in New Delhi, India. On the same occasion the Chinese company should also launch the already official Honor 5X in the subcontinent.
Yet while the Honor 5X is hardly a mystery anymore, the Honor Holly 2 Plus has only now surfaced. You can take a peek at it in the leaked image below.
Like the original Honor Holly from 2014, the Holly 2 Plus will be a lower-midrange affair. That said, it will come with improved specs when compared to its predecessor.
The new phone should sport a 5-inch IPS 720p touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5 MP selfie shooter, a 64-bit chipset with a 1.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 4G and CDMA support, dual-SIM functionality, and a 4,000 mAh battery.
It will obviously run Android underneath Huawei’s own EMUI, but it’s not yet clear which software versions we should expect. Pricing hasn’t been leaked, but given the specs, its plastic body, and the lack of a fingerprint scanner, the Honor Holly 2 Plus can’t be too…

It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop.
