Apple’s Android Attack Frustrates Google’s Empire

This year’s Key Digital Trends report from Social@Ogilvy highlights one point of pressure for Google and Android that will have to be addressed in 2016, namely the impact of adblockers on Google’s mobile business. Not only does it have an impact on Google’s revenues from smartphones, Apple is subtly applying pressure to distort the market away from ad-supported online properties and depress Google’s inventory.

Huawei has shipped over 100 million smartphones this year

Huawei has announced that it has shipped more than 100 million smartphones this year. The announcement was made by the Chinese company through its official Weibo account today. With this, Huawei has joined companies like Samsung and Apple in the 100 million club.

This comes nearly five months after the company, which is the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, said that it’s ahead of schedule on smartphone shipments, and will hit the 100 million milestone before the year ends.

Huawei recently launched its Mate 8 flagship in China, and the device is apparently selling well there. Next year will be an important year for the company as it is expected to start selling its handsets in the United States in 2016 – an announcement related to its US plans will be made at the upcoming CES show in January.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, the Mate 8 and Honor 5X will be the first Huawei handsets that will be launched in the US. The company will also launch a smartwatch in the country sometime next year.

Breitling Exospace B55 is an aviator’s luxury smartwatch

Out of the blue Breitling unveiled a smartwatch – the Breitling Exospace B55. The exterior is based on the Cockpit B50 (and several others in the Professional line), but the interior features Bluetooth LE so it can connect to your smartphone.

This isn’t an Android Wear watch, you get a classic analog display with two line displays on the dial. Everything about this watch was made in Switzerland – from the movement to the smartphone app.

The movement is a SuperQuartz (a thermos-compensated quartz) and is rated at 2 months of battery life. Naturally, the movement is chronometer-certified by the Swiss authority. Breitling says it’s 10 times more accurate than a standard quartz watch.

The black titanium case has a diameter of 46mm, it’s 15.25mm thick and has 24/20mm straps (TwinPro). The watch face is protected by sapphire crystal with glareproofed coating on both sides. The watch is water resistant up to 100m (330ft), though this being an aviator watch it’s best not to have an occasion to test that.

The watch features a number of block and flight time functions, allowing you to record the time it takes you to take off, time and date of arrival and so on.

When connected to a smartphone, the line displays can show emails, messages (SMS or WhatsApp), phone calls and reminders of upcoming appointments.

Price for the Breitling Exospace B55 is available upon request, but keep in mind this is priced as a premium watch – a whole different order of magnitude compared to $150-$300 smartwatches.

Vodafone ahora exige el pago por adelantado de las facturas a los nuevos clientes

Una de las compañías de telecomunicaciones más grandes de España y del mundo, Vodafone, acaba de realizar un cambio en su forma de facturar. Según nos informan desde Hipertextual, Vodafone España está cobrando por adelantado parte del total de la factura desde el día 11 de diciembre,. Hasta ahora, y como hacen la mayoría de compañías, las facturas al completo se cobraban al cliente a ciclo vencido, es decir, una vez ha utilizado los servicios.

Ahora, como decimos, lo que hará Vodafone será cobrar por adelantado a los nuevos clientes la parte fija de la factura –a los que ya eran clientes antes del 11 de diciembre no les afectará–, ya sean particulares o empresas. Esto incluye todos los conceptos de la factura con el mismo precio cada ciclo, como es la cuota de la tarifa que hemos contratado. El resto, como consumos extra fuera de la tarifa, y los impuestos asociados a ellos, se cobrarán con normalidad.

¿Cómo afecta este cambio al cliente?

En principio, esta novedad no supondrá ningún gran cambio para el cliente, ya que seguirá recibiendo cada mes una factura que incluye la cuota fija más el resto de conceptos variables, tal y como sucede actualmente. La única diferencia será que esa cuota fija no corresponde al mes que acaba de vencer, sino al mes siguiente.

Eso sí, sí que veremos cambios en el momento de realizar una portabilidad a otra compañía, darse de baja o también un cambio de tarifa, pues ya nos habrán cobrado esa cuota fija por adelantado. En el caso de portabilidad, baja o cambio a una tarifa más baja, Vodafone estará en deuda con nosotros, por lo que debería devolvernos la parte proporcional del tiempo que no se han estado usando los servicios que estaban contratados. Y en el caso de cambio a una tarifa más alta, es de suponer que lo compensarán en la nueva factura.

Este pago por adelantado ya estaba presenten en ONO, compañía que ahora pertenece a Vodafone tras haberla comprado el año pasado por una cuantiosa suma de dinero, por lo que es lógico que quieran normalizar la facturación en todos sus negocios.
