From plummeting fuel prices to disastrous disruptions, 2015 was an action-packed year across the global supply chain. But it’s time to move on. What about 2016? In the spirit of “everybody has one,” I reached out to a number of our industry’s thought leaders, anxious for their opinions and unwilling to let them off the hook without at least one solid prediction. I deliberately stayed away from listing the popular trends and have limited the following summary to the not-so-obvious:
If you’re shopping for your design team this holiday season, we’ve got some bad news and some good news. First the bad: designers are seriously difficult to shop for due to their discerning tastes. What if they don’t like the typography in the book you bought them? But there’s good news too. As designers ourselves, we know just what’s on you design team’s wish list this time of year. Even better, many of these are gifts your designers won’t even know they want. Here is a round-up of the best holiday gifts for your design team.
While, unlike here on Earth, there weren’t any Galaxies, Satellites, Novas, Saturns, Meteors or Rocket 88s, there were plenty of Speeders and Droids, tanks and troop transporters.
We’ve all suffered the commute from hell. Traffic jams, tailgaters, inept drivers and near misses can get us to work late, stressed and crabby. But with driverless cars (also known as connected autonomous vehicles) just around the corner, your daily commute could soon become a lot less stressful—perhaps even enjoyable.
The Inventor of Auto-Tune
Auto-Tune — one of modern history’s most reviled inventions — was an act of mathematical genius. For inventor Andy Hildebrand, it was the result of years of rigorous study, statistical computation, and the creation of algorithms previously deemed to be impossible.
Ming-Chi Kuo is perhaps the world’s most prolific creator of predictions and analyses regarding Apple’s future plans. And now he’s at it again.
According to the KGI Securities analyst, the iPad Air 3 will be outed sometime during the first half of next year. That could mean there’s a chance it will join the Apple Watch 2 and the much-rumored 4-inch iPhone 6c at a March unveiling event.
Kuo goes on to say that the successor to the iPad Air 2 will not feature the 3D Touch tech that’s built into the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, being billed as one of their main new (and differentiating) features. This looks to remain exclusive to the iPhones for the time being, and the reason why it’s not headed to the next iPad Air reportedly has to do with production issues.
These have plagued the iPhone 6s and its bigger sibling too, with the 3D Touch components said to be “one of the most severe production bottlenecks in iPhone 6s supply chain”. Perhaps for the same reason the iPhone 7 is rumored to come with 3D Touch hardware that will be incredibly similar to what’s inside its…
Buying video games as gifts is a tricky business. For new releases, people generally know what they want, and there’s less gifting fun to be had when you’re just fulfilling an order. Whenver I have to by games for people, I go cheap, and get a bunch of them. There can be something immensely satisfying about receiving three or four games instead of just one — even if some are just digital codes. There are a whole bunch of games out there, but below is a little guidance: 9 excellent Ps4 games for under $20.
