The ‘Warcraft’ Movie Trailer Looks Pretty Bad

I want a good video game movie. There are so many good stories out there, so many good characters, images and worlds that it’s almost absurd the way Hollywood has so consistently failed at adapting all of them. It sure hasn’t stopped them from trying, though.  The official Warcraft movie trailer debuted at Blizzcon today, and you can watch it above. It has a lot of people very excited, but alas, I’m not one of them. I had high hopes that this one might actually work, but this trailer fills me with dread. Warcraft as a movie looks like Game of Thrones meets The Land Before Time.
There are some great parts of this trailer: the environments look beautiful, it’s always nice to see Ragnar Lothbrok around, and some of the CGI is really well executed. Otherwise, though, there’s a serious clash between the absurd Warcraft aesthetic and the required scale of a Hollywood film. The orcs look a lot like their video game counterparts, but I just don’t see how their overblown features are ever going to look natural next to actual human actors. Half of this movie is CGI, but I feel like they should either have done the whole thing that way or just used humans in makeup for the orcs. Warcraft, both the RTS and the MMO, revels in its own absurdity while still bringing a serious edge. That doesn’t play nearly as well on the big screen — The Avengers managed it, but it’s a rare feat.

Verizon confirms it will carry the BlackBerry PRIV ‘soon’

It’s only been a few days since AT&T confirmed that it would be carrying the BlackBerry-branded PRIV, and now Verizon Wireless is getting in on the fun.

By way of its official Verizon News Twitter account, the carrier has confirmed that it will also carry the Android-powered BlackBerry PRIV. Unfortunately for those that might be considering the handset under the Big Red umbrella, the carrier wasn’t forthcoming on just when it will launch the handset. As it stands, it’s only listed as “coming soon.”

If the PRIV shows up in time for the holiday shopping season, do you plan on picking one up?
