BlackBerry able to update PRIV without carrier approval if necessary

BlackBerry is known for its security in the corporate world, and with the PRIV running Android, the company will have to deal with an entirely different method of keeping its device safe.

We all know how carriers love to delay Android updates. BlackBerry has spoken about such problems and revealed that important security hotfixes can be patched without carrier approval if necessary. Thought the company will be going through the carriers for approval when it can, it can bypass them entirely for important security fixes. The fact that BlackBerry is announcing that it has this power is great, and maybe other manufacturers will follow suit.

The PRIV will also feature enterprise-managed updates. If it’s a corporate device, IT can manage when updates are released to the PRIV to prevent incompatibility problems with corporate software. This is the same approach that’s taken with corporate PCs.

BlackBerry is doing with Android exactly what it historically did with its own operating system, and that’s keeping them secure, safe, and corporate friendly. It’s good to see the company taking a strong stance on security.

Bungie Is Fixing ‘Destiny’s’ Dire Weapons Parts Shortage

I should start by saying that I don’t really understand the Weapons Parts shortage in Destiny. Ever since Bungie adjusted the drop rate last month, people have been complaining about a dire lack of the universal upgrade item and scheming ways to find more. Personally, I’m still sitting on triple digits of the things, and regularly trade them into the Dead Orbit guy for reputation. But people that did a lot of reforging and infusing are apparently very short, and ave found themselves coming up with all sorts of crazy schemes to get more. Bungie is going to allow those players to buy weapon parts for Glimmer. Here’s Bungie:

00…7 Of James Bond’s Best (And Stupidest) Pre-‘Spectre’ Gadgets

He’s MI6’s go-to agent for international intrigue, he’s licensed to kill and he’s about to return to theaters in Spectre. And if James Bond’s last 23 adventures on the big screen have taught fans anything, it’s that when it comes to gadgets and gizmos, he’s also the ultimate early adopter.

Amazon Delivering ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’ At Midnight

Because waiting until the morning really isn’t an option anymore. As it stands, the average gamer has two options for grabbing a new release like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 the second it goes live. The traditional method is to attend some sort of midnight launch event at a Gamestop or other store, and grab the thing while thronged by like-minded fans. This, however, requires leaving your house, and puts precious minutes in between acquiring the game and actually playing it. Enter the second option: pre-loading the game from a digital storefront and waiting for an unlock. This foregoes the box, and can be an issue for those with bandwidth restrictions.  And so Amazon offers us a third by starting midnight deliveries as part of Amazon Prime Now. That’s what they’ll be doing tonight with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

Qualcomm’s ATM Machine Is Running Out Of Cash

For years, Qualcomm was like an ATM machine. Soaring revenues and earnings fed cash into the machine, to be dispensed to company shareholders, managers, and employees.
That’s what made Qualcomm a case study in business schools around the globe, and a stellar performer on Wall Street.
Qualcomm was in the right business at the right time—wireless technologies–riding one mobile communications trend after another. And its products became the industry standard.
Simply put, Qualcomm had turned into a sole toll collector for almost every smartphone made around the world, especially in Korea and China where smartphones are manufactured.
And as a sole collector it set the price of the tolls.
That could explain the company’ high operating margins over the last two decades, and the stash of piles of cash, which kept feeding its ATM machine.
But recently, the ATM machine seems to be running out of cash. This is evidenced by a string of quarterly financial reports, which indicate a sharp decline in the company’s revenue growth, from 30% three years ago to -14.30% lately.
Qualcomm’ Financials as of 11/4/2015

Pebble Time Round becomes available on November 8

Pebble announced its first round smartwatch back in September, yet it’s still not out. That’s all set to change very soon, as the company has just unveiled the official release date for the wearable.

The Pebble Time Round will be available on November 8 at Best Buy, Target, Amazon, as well as through Pebble’s own online store. Target and Best Buy will have it in physical stores too. The price remains the same $249 set when the Pebble Time Round first got official.

If you’ve pre-ordered the smartwatch, you should know that shipments for pre-orders will commence on November 8 too.

The Pebble Time Round comes with a 64-color always-on e-paper display. The wearable is 7.5mm thin and it weighs just 28g. Hence, it’s apparently the world’s thinnest and lightest smartwatch. It has a splash-resistant chassis, “days-long battery life”, and “minutes-quick charging”. It’s available with two band sizes, 14mm and 20mm, in black, silver, or a special edition Rose Gold (which can only be paired with 14mm…
