I didn’t get Triforce Heroes at first; it looks like a Zelda game, but solo mode is frustrating and the story is dumb. Then I tried multiplayer and realized it’s a co-op action puzzle game, not a Zelda adventure. Amusing to play online; great fun locally with friends; a bummer alone.

After accusations of fraud against fantasy sports sites FanDuel and DraftKings emerged earlier this month, the two sites had their biggest weekends ever. The weekend after the New York Attorney General asked both sites to turn over data for an investigation, a record-breaking 7.1 million people entered prize tournaments on both sites, amounting to $43.6 million in entry fees according to research firm SuperLobby.

No matter how smoothly an event appears on the outside, a complex, sometimes messy, sometimes chaotic, jumble of logistics exists at the core. For Team Archon, getting their Archon Team League Championships off the ground almost didn’t happen, but when it did, it appeared to all the world a smoothly run event. But even successful events aren’t perfect and sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. I spoke to Team Archon and people present at the tournament to find out what went right and what went wrong.

Most arguments for innovations in edtech focus on the ways in which new digital tools will help students. While learners will certainly benefit, the science fiction fear of robot teachers is exacerbated when we forget that edtech is fundamentally a tool for teachers. Great learning tools help teachers do their jobs more effectively by providing more data.
