Samsung acaba de lanzar al mercado dos nuevos dispositivos destinados a la gama media-baja de smartphones Android, el Galaxy On5 y el Galaxy On7. A pesar de realizar algún que otro compromiso en el campo de las especificaciones, éstos nuevos terminales de Samsung tienen su mérito.
El Galaxy On5 es el hermano más pequeño de los dos, con una pantalla de 5 pulgadas de tamaño, mientras que el mayor Galaxy On7 presume de 5,5 pulgadas de diagonal. Ambos dispositivos montan un panel TFT con una aceptable resolución de 1280 x 720 píxeles, sin embargo aquí se acaban las similitudes. El Galaxy On7 goza de una cámara trasera de 13 megapíxeles y frontal de 5, mientras que el menor de los dos, el Galaxy On5, se las arregla con una cámara trasera de 8 megapíxeles. Dispondremos de una razonable batería de 3000 mAh en el Galaxy On7, y nos conformaremos con 2600 mAh en el Galaxy On5.
Una buena noticia dónde las haya es que ambos terminales soportan 4G LTE, con la posibilidad de insertar dos tarjetas SIMs, en caso de que las necesites. En cuanto a apariencia, el Galaxy On5 y On7 comparten un diseño bastante similar a otros terminales de gama media y baja de Samsung, aunque hay que señalar que para corresponder a esa gama no pintan nada mal, aunque para gustos, colores.
Por lo que parece, Samsung incorporará su software Milk Music en la pareja de terminales que tengan destino a China, además del conjunto de herramientas del sistema Smart Manager. No obstante, desde hace no mucho, la compañía ha empleado una política de reducir el bloatware de sus terminales en el país asiático, por lo que ahora ofrece a sus clientes la opción de eliminar este tipo de aplicaciones pre-instaladas. Además de lo previamente mencionado, los terminales de la empresa surcoreana ahora incluyen información sobre la cantidad de memoria que éstas apps pre-instaladas ocupan.
Se notan los inevitables compromisos que se han tenido que realizar cuando llegamos al campo de las especificaciones. En el interior del smartphone encontramos un procesador de cuatro núcleos Exynos 3475 a 1,2 GHz acompañado de 1,5 GBs de RAM. Estas características no darán ningún problema para el día a día, sin embargo no le pidas mucho más, ya que con toda seguridad, no será una experiencia de usuario agradable. Disponemos de 8 GB de memoria interna, aunque únicamente podremos disfrutar de 4,9 GB para el usuario, no obstante, el teléfono soporta tarjetas microSD de hasta 128 GB.
Todavía no disponemos de ningún detalle en cuanto al precio, pero la pareja de smartphones ya se encuentra listada en la página China de Samsung. Lo más probable es que veamos éstos dos terminales aparecer en diferentes mercados, aunque no sabremos si podremos conseguirlos aquí en Europa.

AT&T is now finally in the process of rolling out the update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for its version of the Galaxy S5, Samsung’s flagship from 2014. It’s quite late, of course, seeing as how Google’s already released Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its Nexus devices, but at least owners of the AT&T Galaxy S5 now have something to look forward to.
Aside from bumping up the Android version to 5.1.1, the update also adds Android for Work, a few security updates, as well as a fix to Ultra Power Saving Mode for phones using on-device encryption.
As this is an over-the-air rollout, it may be a few days before you receive the notification that the update is available for your handset. If you’re impatient, you can always manually check for the new software by going to Settings > About device > Software update.
Do note that you must use Wi-Fi to download the new release. The file size is around 609MB. After you’ve applied the update you’ll be on build version LMY47X.G900AUCU4COI5.

For Wojcicki, the bleak statistics around women in this industry shouldn’t just be a wake up call for much-needed change, but rather our country’s next “Sputnik” moment. Women, for example, hold just 26% of all jobs in tech and by 2020, jobs in computer science are projected to grow three times faster than the national average. “If women don’t participate in tech, they are losing the chance to influence the largest economic and social shift of this century,” said Wojcicki. “It threatens our country’s continued economic prominence and risks our future competitiveness. And it should awaken all of us to act,” she argued.

Hoth is never the same place. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve played a videogame set on the ice planet, made famous by half an hour of screen time in a 35 year-old movie, but in every instance the pace is radically different—sometimes an endlessly scrolling 2D landscape, other times a network of subterranean tunnels. In Star Wars Battlefront, DICE’s forthcoming multiplayer shooter, it’s a mid-size battlefield cut across with trenches that seem more like an obstacle course than a functioning network of moving resources and defending territory. Playing a demo for Battlefront at a recent EA event in New York, Hoth’s simultaneous timelessness and constant variation begins to make sense, a kind of limbo space well-suited to the perpetual repetition of a multiplayer shooting game.
